Rod Marinelli thinks he can turn Gaines Adams around

Though the Bucs drafted defensive end Gaines Adams after Rod Marinelli left his position as defensive line coach in Tampa, Marinelli thought enough of Adams that he seriously considered taking Adams instead of receiver Calvin Johnson with the second overall pick in the 2007 draft, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Per Charley Casserly of CBS, Marinelli thinks that he can turn around Adams in the same way that the Bucs made Simeon Rice into an elite player after he arrived from Arizona.

Regardless, a second-round pick in a draft regarded as a deep and good one seems like a lot to give up for Adams, even though Adams could become a future starter at defensive end for the Bears.

Tampa Bay G.M. Mark Dominik said Sunday that the Bears initiated the discussions regarding Adams.  “I still feel Gaines has potential,” Dominik said, per PewterReport.com.  “Sometimes a change of scenery is
good for a player.  I wish nothing but the best for him.  He handled this
well when I talked to him Friday night.  He’s got a chance to work with
some good people in Chicago.  We’re focused on the foundation we’re
laying here now.”

As one of the members of the media who questioned Dominik pointed out on Sunday, that foundation now lacks a top-five draft pick from 2007 and a second-round pick from 2008, given the decision to cut receiver Dexter Jackson, who currently is languishing on the Panthers’ practice squad.

    If anyone can, it’s Marinelli.

Why hasn’t there been any mention of the possible upset in Oakland. If you’re going to give these little blurbs about what’s going on in the games, why hasn’t the struggling Eagles offense or surprisingly stout Raiders defense been given it’s own post?

Marinelli turned Rice into an elite player?
When did that happen, Simeon was averaging over 10 sacks a season as a Card so he was prety damn good before Rod even spoke to him.
Playing on a line with Warren Sapp can’t have hurt either.

Wouldn’t surprise me the way he has Brown and Ogunleye playing.

Have you ever heard Rice talk about Marinelli? Gives Marinelli all the credit in the world for taking his game up a level.

Difference is that Rice was a good player before he came to Tampa and became an elite pass rusher. Adams has done nothing during his career in Tampa.
It’s much like the comparisons many wanted to make between Suggs in Baltimore and Gholston with the Jets.

Wow, so he was even more of an idiot than Millen in this case!
    ESPN should hire him…

Have you ever heard Rice talk about anything, he’s a complete moron who’s also a self centered liar.
