We have some sobering news to share from Qualcomm Stadium, where tonight’s Broncos-Chargers game is scheduled to begin in less than two hours.
An unidentified man fell roughly 40 feet from a catwalk on the press level of the stadium around 2:30 PM Pacific time. He was administered CPR 15 minutes later after hitting the seats and concrete at the club level below, according the North County Times. He was described as unresponsive.
Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times tweets that they have shut down the press box and the assembled media is waiting outside. He writes that the man was a longtime PR helper.
The worker has been taken to Sharp
Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
UPDATE: The press has been allowed into the press box after the accident. Players have started their warmups.
Best wishes for the guy and his family, hopefully he is allright, but a 40 foot fall, with concrete at the end usually doesnt end well.
Extremely sad story. Thoughts and prayers to the gentleman.
This is one you might want to turn off comments..
I really hope this man will be alright.
Sending good Mojo his way. Bad news.
OMG. My thoughts go out to his family.
Agreed. Thoughts and prayers.
It would have been a bit more appropriate if the “Update” had been about the person who fell, Gregg.
Best of luck brotha, Stay up.
‘Unresponsive’ – man I just hope that means he’s unconscious and he’s not waking up, not that…you know.
Prayers for the guy and his family and wisdom for the doctors treating him.
I hope they all get good news soon.
I don’t think comments need to be shut off, I think our trolls know their limits, at least I hope they do. Hope everything turns out okay with this guy, thoughts to he and his family :/
@Treezs I doubt this type of situation will bring out the bad in anybody commenting.
“@Treezs I doubt this type of situation will bring out the bad in anybody commenting.”
Right, because it’s not about the Cowboys stadium. If it WERE, you guys would be going bat-shit.
That’s a damn shame! I pray the outcome will be a good one and I pray for the guy’s family.
if he wasnt dead on impact, i am surprised he was alive when the medical attention showed up 15 minutes later. he must be otherwise living right.
Wow. That’s terrible. Thoughts and prayers and tons of hope that this gentleman recovers.
“He was administered CPR 15 minutes later after hitting the seats and concrete at the club level below”
Unfortuneatly, that is not good news when one is “unresponsive”. Thoughts and prayers to the gentleman and his family.
Thoughts and prayers for this guy. Hope he will be alright. How sad.
I dont think anybody with an ounce of respect would post something stupid on here. God be with this man.
thoughts and prayers tohim and his family
Why turn comments off? No matter how many assholes are out there, most know their limits. My prayers are with this guy and his family, hope he is ok.
The San Diego Union Tribune – sandiegoonline.com has more details. It also identifies the person.
Prayers with the man and his family.
Prayers for the man and his family.
for what it’s worth, just saw an update on the situation on the ESPN pre-game show. they were able to resuscitate the man, get a pulse, put him on a stretcher and get him to a hospital. so hopefully it will turn out ok.
best wishes
Best wishes to this man and his family!
Thanks for the updates Nitin and LiveNBreatheFootball. Wish the blog editors would have thought to put it in *THEIR* updates!
Very sad, indeed. Prayers go out to him and to his family.
The bobbled snap.
The Rams game.
The INT against the Giants in a HUGE playoff game.
The 44-6 shower faint.
The December record
…HOF.
This is very sad news. Prayers go out to him and his loved ones.
LiveNBreatheFootball, the SD Union Tribune’s web site is actually signonsandiego.com, not sandiegoonline.com.
voxveritasonmyspace, I’m embarrassed for you.
May the good Lord bless this man and his family. As it says in the good book: Revelations 7 . 16-17 “They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat … and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
If he’s lived in God’s image, he’ll be in heaven with the good Lord for all eternity.
Oh sure, an “accident”. The cover-up begins.
My prayers are with this gentleman for a quick and full recovery.
I hope he pulls through…
Update: Man who fell at Qualcomm died
A man who fell at Qualcomm Stadium Monday died this morning of his injuries, the Medical Examiner’s Office said today. Walt Daniels, 66, was pronounced dead at a hospital at 2:30 a.m., an investigator said.
Daniels fell about 20 to 25 feet from a booth about 2:30 p.m. and landed on the seats below, officials said. Witnesses said Daniels, who walked with a cane, stumbled as he was coming down some stairs.

frankly i’m amazed he survived the fall in the first place. condolensces to his family and the others close to him.
i hope the chargers will commemorate him in a following home game. the guy was part of the franchise for 25-30 years or so.
