Andy Reid hints at a possible trade

With the 2009 trade deadline less than 28 hours away, the Eagles could be making a move.

Coach Andy Reid made that suggestion on Monday, during a press conference.

"We are keeping our eyes open." Reid said.  "We are looking."

The folks at myfoxphilly.com think that the trade could be aimed at replacing linebacker Omar Gaither, who sprained a foot during the game in which the Raiders put a foot somewhere in the Eagles' collective anatomy.

The bait could be receiver Kevin Curtis, who per Jay Glazer of FOX is rumored to be on the block, thanks to the performance of rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin.

AGAIN they hang onto to a player for too long and ry to deal him when he is injured or not producing. The Eagles have obviously missed out on the idea of trading a player at his TOP value.

Tell ya what, trade Curtis and Vick to a team for $20 and call it a day. Bums!

    Dear Andy Reid,

How do you only run the ball 14 times against the league's 30th ranked run defense?! That's idiotic.

    Signed,

    Jim Zorn

  4. RumorMongering says: October 19, 2009 12:55 PM

I don't buy it. They're more likely to sign Mike Zordich b/c his knee was cleaned out since he last played in the late 90's.

Wouldn't mind making a move to acquire Derrick Johnson if the price isn't too steep.

Shawne Merriman, Derrick Johnson, Aaron Kampman- Any of these guys would help us to the SB44!!

So ballhawk1, are you saying now would be the time to trade DeSean Jackson? Maybe Brent Celek? I mean, wtf are you talking about? I'd be shocked if anyone ponied up anything for Curtis, but if they did, why should the Eagles not take it? Dude has done nothing this year.

Lets see.... Andy Reid for choice of a Washington LB?

    We'll take it!

The performance by maclin? hang on to Curtis.

all of maclins #'s came in one game, hes been doody the rest.

This just sreams an Eagles/Chiefs trade.

    Curtis for DJ.

Chiefs need help at reciever and DJ has all the potential to flourish with a fresh start.

Curtis really seems like a Haley guy.

Soooooooo, when is mike mamula coming in for his tryout? or is he just being signed pending a physical.

  16. TheDPR says: October 19, 2009 1:26 PM

Any LB they could get for Curtis would be no better than a street free agent. Who would give up anything but a journeyman LB for a journeyman-level WR?

A deal could happen but I don't see the Eagles getting anyone any better than Joe Mays or Omar Gaither if all they're giving up is Kevin Curtis.

I'm a huge McNabb supporter but with Kolb's performance are there any conspiracy theorists out there who think a blockbuster McNabb trade for a top-tier LB or package of players?

  22. mustbechris says: October 19, 2009 1:41 PM

wishbone, they stepped up BIGTIME yesterday. he tried running the ball early and pretty much gave up. our line was getting totally shredded in the pass game and the run game. mcnabb was getting no time in the pocket and westbrook and mccoy got no push from the line in the run game. 30th run defense on paper, yes, but they played like the vikings did last year in that game. i mean, mcnabb got sacked six times. that should tell you a couple things.

I'd be all for that trade.

  24. Zukny says: October 19, 2009 1:56 PM

D mac, holds on to the ball way to long. He probably holds the ball longer then any other QB in the league! I wouldn't mind trading him at this point. .. Its not going to happen though.

Trading Curtis and a draft pick isn't a bad idea at all. But what is out there?

  25. scrapdawg12 says: October 19, 2009 1:59 PM

We need Linebackers bad. I don't care who it is. Just make sure they can run fast and tackle. Derrick Johnson from KC would do. But I think it'll take Curtis and a 3rd rounder to get him

Like I said, I'm a big McNabb fan (have an autographed jersey hanging in my living room... and my wife even approves... lol) it just seems like offensively (besides Westy) it's a young, young squad. Kolb played well and it looks like a slightly less dramatic Favre-Rodgers scenario heating up.

I'd think you could get a nice deal for McNabb. There's quite a few teams that would be better off with him at QB. We all know this is a business and, sadly, the move is eventually going to come.

The question is, "When is the best time to move him in order to get maximum value?"

  27. sdffa11 says: October 19, 2009 2:07 PM

you idiots. mcnabb is not getting traded. this is why eagle fans are so stupid. after only one bad game (which was reids faults, who calls only 6 running plays when you're down by 4), people are talking about benching/trading mcnabb.

i say we trade reid for jim zorn. at least he'll run the ball.

  28. JMClarkent says: October 19, 2009 2:18 PM

Kirk Morrison, a fella that they saw yesterday, is available for a pick (They might actually even let 'em throw in Kevis Curtis).

Seems like a match to me...

  29. tian says: October 19, 2009 2:19 PM

First of all, to trade your franchise QB after one humiliating loss is tantamount to sheer lunacy. It would be the biggest blunder in the history of the NFL, and to merely suggest it at a meeting anywhere within an Eagles organization building should be grounds for termination... even if it's the janitor or groundskeepers.

Only after 6 or 7 drinks at a local bar in Tempe AZ should someone even think about trading their franchise QB for a 3rd-string permanent backup like Kevin Kolb. (Oh, and he's 3rd-string; not 2nd-string. He lost that job to Mike Vick. And remember, Vick was in the Pen for 2 years.)

The whole thought process of McNabb being traded in the middle of the season is... wow! I simply cannot believe that I even have to write about this.

  30. EskinSux says: October 19, 2009 2:24 PM

As long as whomever they get knows how many timeouts are left....It has to be an improvement... Doesn't matter if they bring back LT in his prime, if Reid coaches like he did yesterday, won't make a damn bit of difference....

  31. VernonK says: October 19, 2009 2:26 PM

    Thanks for the compliment!

I'm no idiot, thank you very much. If you were intelligent enough to read my original message I stated "are there any conspiracy theorists out there". You must either not know how to read or perhaps those words are too big for you.

Sure the obvious Kevin Curtis, Omar Gaither, > trade talks are going to be mentioned.

Why not talk about something that would be considered blockbuster?

My comment was only a question of whether or not it made sense based off of Kolb's performance in the two games McNabb missed.

Honestly (changing subject here for those who may be a little slow), I think Antonio Pierce talked shite about the Raiders to actually get them pumped up about this game.

IMO, if that was the case it's a smart move. Division opponent that you face twice where it's always a tough game. Why not try to rile up their opponents so they can gain some ground?

  32. chapnasty says: October 19, 2009 2:29 PM

    @ PGDIEHARDEAGLESFAN

In case you missed yesterday's loss and the success of the worst qb in the league against your defense, you will not be anywhere near the SB or the playoffs.

I can't see the Chargers trading Merriman. The Chargers have too many holes on the defense now. If they did trade him, they would probably want defensive players in return. Besides, Merriman's value is low at this point. He is coming back from surgery in the off season, and he is also recovering from a groin injury. If the Chargers are going to compete at all, then they need a healthy Merriman in the line up.

  35. Opie says: October 19, 2009 2:57 PM

tian: Kolb is backup, not Vick.

The Eagles aren't trading DNabb and those of you that hit the panic button after that game are just plain lunatics.

The Oline wasn't doing their job, yesterday, and it wasn't McNabb holding the ball too long. Geez! Peters went out early and Seymour bitch slapped Dunlap the rest of the afternoon. Celek whiffed on a block that became a sack on the right side, as well. Saying that, they should have ran the ball a lot more! Westy had 6 carries for 50 yards, so they were more effective running than pass blocking.

Now, don't think that Curtis is the only available WR. They've also got Reggie Brown, who is 100%, warming the bench. They need Herremans back in a hurry and Peters to be healthy. Oakland scored on a fluke TD! Other than that, the D held up pretty good. 6 points and they should've won. Freakin Morningwhig just does some obscenely dumb things sometimes!

    Vernon, how old are you?

Sucks that you feel an autographed jersey of ANY football player is important.

Back to the Eagles, the best move Lurie could make is to move the big, fat ass of Reid out of town ASAP.

I hate the Eagles for signing vick.

Hope they lose every frickin' game.

  37. bdinphoenix says: October 19, 2009 3:12 PM

Derrick Brooks is out there waiting for someone to sign him. Of course he wants to get paid and the Eagles don't want to pay. He would have to be an improvement over Trotter and they don't have to give anyone up. Some of you bozos claimed the Eagles were done last year after the tie with the Bengals. While your team was watching television the Eagles went to the NFC championship game.......again. Of course they lost again but you have to get there before you can lose. Unless you are a Cardinals fan none of you NFC fans's teams made it.

  38. tian says: October 19, 2009 3:18 PM

    Opie-

Vick is actually the backup. Kolb lost that job last week.

    http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_13589986?nclick_check=1

Check it out yourself. Kolb is the 3rd-stringer.

  39. Quagmire says: October 19, 2009 3:30 PM

    tian

Kolb is the backup, Vick is # 2 during games because of the Wildcat stuff, if he was listed as the #3 & was used at QB in the game neither McKnabb, or Kolb could come back into the game.

If McKnabb were to miss any games, Kolb would start.

Wouldnt it be funny if Reid and Childress got together and worked out a trade.. Curtis turned down more money from the Vikes to go to the eagles...Because It was too cold in Minnesota.. Like Philly is much better..

    "Vernon, how old are you?

Sucks that you feel an autographed jersey of ANY football player is important."

    @d.b.cooper

    I'm 32.

I wasn't saying that it was some big deal, but just saying that I wasn't some McNabb hater. Hey, I like my autographed jersey and the amazing case that my wife built for it (yes, SHE built it) for Fathers Day.

Sorry for you, but it is important to me. For reasons that go way beyond "the jersey". Perhaps you may try taking a much broader perspective in life. Looking through a straw prevents you from seeing things that actually matter.

For everyone else (jumping on the McNabb comment I mean, not "literally" everyone)... I wasn't pushing a panic button and saying "trade McNabb". All I was doing was opening a discussion of what type of trade could possibly happen and whether it would be worthwhile for the Eagles to consider.

I know McNabb isn't getting traded. I'm really not an idiot.

Sadly, rather than having a conversation about anything related to the subject all that happened was a bunch of "you're an idiot" posts that actually only showed the lack of intelligence in the approach of the responders. (Just in case you missed it, I didn't say that you "lacked intelligence" but that you "lacked intelligence in your approach").

I now understand why I've never bothered commenting much. It's truly ridiculous to see the lack of open-mindedness wherever you turn.

Perhaps someone will get a clue and understand that plays a part in the problem with our society.

Everyone is worried too much about being right, rather than being a part of something.

From athletes to janitors (I'm not really sure about that just using a wide range here), the predominate section of our population - regardless of religion, creed or beliefs - need to learn how to look outside of themselves and realize that life really isn't all about whose ego is bigger.

"D mac, holds on to the ball way to long. He probably holds the ball longer then any other QB in the league! I wouldn't mind trading him at this point. .. Its not going to happen though."

Ever heard of Ben Roethlisberger? You are a moron Zukny. McNabb had no time at all with King Dunlap barely even getting a push at the L.O.S. McNabb hasa quick release but he has to wait for the routes to develop. Generally, 4-5 seconds is what it takes and McNabb had like 2-3 seconds on almost every play. I know he was terribly inaccurate but he had no time.

I also hate how Reid only tried outside runs with McCoy and Westbrook. The few times he called a run right up the gut they got a good amount of yards. Andy Reid's philosophy is awful. You shold try to set up the pass with strong, consistent running and try screen plays to keep the defense line from getting overly agressive. You can't pass to set up the run. Reid abandons the running game way too quickly despite having some capable backs. There were like 11 or 12 designed runs and 46 passes. No balance whatsoever.

As far as the defense goes, they played like pure shit. Trotter looked lost in pass coverage and whiffed on Zach Miller while going for tackle on the 86 yard TD. The Eagles are very lucky that Russell is a horribly inaccurate paser, because some of the passes he trew to WIDE open receivers (easily could've been TDs) he threw at their feet. Eagles would have lost by way more. This was a pathetic effort on all sides and they better step it up on MNF under the spotlight against another struggling team.

  43. WildBirdOffense says: October 19, 2009 6:39 PM

Hey IDIOTS....this isn't McNabb's first "bad" game and it probably won't be his last. This guy has really irked me. I can't stand him anymore. FRANCHISE QB's don't play like he did against HORRIBLE teams.

If we can get maximum value for him, let's do it. F it. Kolb can play, he's already showed it.
