Billboard calling for Jauron's ouster goes up … after win

The folks behind the “Fire Dick Jauron” billboard movement in Buffalo need to work on their timing.

The billboard went up after midnight Monday morning, just hours after Buffalo’s best moment of the season, a win against the Jets on the road.

Buffalo residents can see the billboard while driving on Interstate-190 South.  (Or you can just click here.)  Jauron was asked for his thoughts on it Monday.

“Well I don’t,” Jauron said. “The fans I understand are upset. We’re upset too. We’re upset by where we are and our record.  We’re trying to get it right. We just happened to win yesterday.”

And while this site’s fearless leader wrote in the Morning Aftermath that Sunday’s result was mostly about the Jets losing, not the Bills winning, Jauron still deserves a tip of the cap for getting his group to play hard.  (It’s been fun if this turns out to be my last PFT post.)

The Bills have been ravaged by injuries and they could have laid down like the other team with coaching turmoil — the Redskins.  Instead, they won a game no one predicted them to, and with a backup quarterback to boot.

The billboard will stay up for at least one week.  The group organizers raised $1191.89 to have it displayed that long, and have collected $810 more as of this posting in an effort to keep the billboard up longer.

Here’s the thing: The win won’t change Jauron’s ultimate fate as a dead coach walking, but the billboard won’t either.

There has to be a better cause for Bills fans to donate their money to.

    Hey, stay classy Buffalo.
    Signed,
    Redskin fans.

    Buffalo has billboards?

  3. Resolution says: Oct 19, 2009 3:24 PM

Better cause? Yeah, its called the Toronto Argonauts.

  4. question8 says: Oct 19, 2009 3:24 PM

Buffalo fans should use the additional $810 and put a towards a new billboard that says “See you in LA” because that’s where this doomed franchise is headed!

    With all due respect.
The Billboard isn’t JUST about getting an inept coach fired.
It’s about Bills fans voicing their continued frustration over being force fed an inferioir product year after year.
Until Ralph Wilson stops running the Bills as a money making business that has to keep it overhead at a bare minimum, then they will contue to be a poor stepchild of the NFL.
His habit of hiring business men to run the team, and not being willing to pay for good coaching is the biggest reason the Bills never go anywhere.
Dick Jauron was a failure before he ever was hired by the Bills. But he was Marv Levy’s buddy, and he was willing to work for peanuts. Which is all they need. Then they jumped the gun on an extension, andinstead of biting the bullet and firing him LAST year, they keep him soley to avoid the buyout.
Bring in some proven Football people. Hire one of the many SB experience coaches available. Stop sitting on millions in cap space. Stop the TO signings that are nothing but a marketing ploy and nothing to do with winning the games. you might actually have a team.
We’re tired of this. Even Al Davis TRIES to win.

You can see the billboards above the tire fires!
The Bills had no reason to win his game, just like the browns had no reason to win versus the Bills last week.

I don’t understand this one, Rosenthal. Is this a joke or did you sneak this in because you expect to be fired for stealing office supplies?

  8. schism says: Oct 19, 2009 3:32 PM

When Ralph stops being cheap, or dies, whatever comes first, they Buffalo Bills will become a winning team again, they have amazing fans, sold out games, and the foundation to be a winning team, all they need to do is get their owner to actually spend some money.

  9. Greener95 says: Oct 19, 2009 3:34 PM

As a lifelong Bills fan, and apparent gluten for punishment, a sign like that is a little much. I don’t want to see Jauron on the sidelines as much as the rest us, but I have to draw the line somewhere.
It’s great the Bills won, and the article is right, Jauron’s fate is sealed.
    Let it be.

  10. SkinsFanInNebraska says: Oct 19, 2009 3:35 PM

Hey, the Redskins players are not “laying down”. They’re playing hard. They just don’t have enough talent on offense to be much good at scoring points.

  11. Treezs says: Oct 19, 2009 3:35 PM

and Jauron is seeding the clouds, 20′ of snow is all that is needed. The billboard will be covered and games can’t be played. He called DelRio, they’re talking about draining his ponds. They surely know that water can’t run north?
Who really thinks the fans are behind these and not some front runners agent?

  12. troutman_20 says: Oct 19, 2009 3:40 PM

I’m sure you just don’t get your message on a billboard as soon as you put the money down. I’m sure other people/business had the space rented.
ANnnnnnyways, it shows that Bills fans are passionate about football. Letters to the editor only go so far, and paying money to go watch the team and boo the coach and yell and scream is defeating the purpose, so if you can get enough people to put it up in the middle of town to see it, why not?

  13. CapsLockKey says: Oct 19, 2009 3:52 PM

I don’t care if the Bills won, they still suck and Jauron should be fired. Give up over 200+ yards to Thomas Jones!?! The Jets throw FIVE picks and you still need overtime to beat them!?! Watching that game was brutal. Neither team looked like they wanted to win and were doing everything in their power to hand it to the other team.

  14. HarrisonHits says: Oct 19, 2009 4:04 PM

“There has to be a better cause for Bills fans to donate their money to.”
They’d be too smart to be Bills fans if they were smart enough to realize that.

  15. Jry44 says: Oct 19, 2009 4:07 PM

There is no business man, or agents behind this. If you want to see how and where this all went down, go to the message board where the fans that made this happen came up with the idea and went through with it. http://www.buffalorange.com. Every single post that has to do with this is right at the top of the board.
As a die hard Bills fan since the age of 9, I can’t say that I agree with this either, so I did not contribute. Jauron is gone after the season is over, regardless. This will do nothing to speed up the process. This fan base is just sick of losing, and it’s the classic case of desperate times calling for desperate measures to some.

  16. mike says: Oct 19, 2009 4:08 PM

Wow, the Bills won? Maybe there’s hope for the Titans then.

  17. riddikeyes says: Oct 19, 2009 4:09 PM

“Who really thinks the fans are behind these and not some front runners agent?”
    a) I know the guy the guy that organized this, he’s a bills fan just like me
    b) there are no frontrunners for jaurons job, because nobody wants to coach in buffalo, which is why we are most likely doomed to have an equally incompetent coach next year. fml.

  18. virtualplague says: Oct 19, 2009 4:12 PM

Better things to spend our money on? Like what? Tickets to see an undercoached, underachieving team?
I love my Bills, but Jauron is clearly the problem. The Bills are most likely the most penalized team in the NFL and make the most ridiculous game-costing mistakes. That’s an indictment of the coaching staff, not the players.
On top of that, Jauron is 23-31 as the Bills head coach. He’s had one winning season his entire career, with the Bears, and finished 7-9 each of his first 3 seasons as the Bills coach, and is on pace to finish worse than that this year.
I think a little over a grand on a billboard voicing the general opinion of our fanbase is money well spent, goddammit.
I hate the fact that our “fans” vandalized McKelvins lawn. That they burglarized Whitners house. During a game, nonetheless.
However, the billboard is great and I think more teams fans should voice their displeasure with a poor teams performance more openly, especially when said team sells out every game despite the poor performances.

  19. texasPHINSfan says: Oct 19, 2009 4:27 PM

jauron is an easy scapegoat, but i believe the problem goes much deeper than the coach.

  20. bobinpuertorico says: Oct 19, 2009 4:29 PM

“virtualplague” has made just about the most ignorant post that I have ever seen. Bills fans did not vandalize McKelvins lawn, two teenage punks did that. Bills fans did not burglarize Whiners house, some criminal did that. Try not being such an ignorant fool in the future.

  21. Patsfan1776 says: Oct 19, 2009 4:38 PM

It’s called the no huddle offense not the no scoring offense. A team that fired the OC just before the season started can clearly fire the head coach next week.

  22. usher says: Oct 19, 2009 4:40 PM

Annyone who thinks that Jauron’s tenure is definitely done after the year doesn’t know Ralph Wilson very well, he’s in no hurry to eat that contract. And that is why this billboard is SPOT ON! Inept front office (with no real GM), inept coaching, lack of depth/talent, etc… This team needs a major overhaul.

  23. virtualplague says: Oct 19, 2009 4:59 PM

bobinpuertorico needs to stop patronizing someone who lives in the same neighborhood as McKelvin while he’s at his computer desk in another part of the world.
If you don’t think that fans vandalized his lawn, you’re an imbecile. Clearly, they knew who he was and watched the game. While I hate to acknowledge the people who did it as fans, they clearly do watch the Bills and as such, are fans.
Perhaps you’re right on the Whitner thing, so I’ll give you that.

  24. Maddenboy says: Oct 19, 2009 5:06 PM

The poster “canadianeh” has the best summary of how Bills fans feel.
Scroll up and reread it. He says it all.
Jauron must go. NOW. Most of us in our hearts were rooting for a loss, to accellerate the firing. This win just prolongs what needs to happen.
The sooner a new coach comes in (and not some interim palceholder), the sooner some real change can begin.

  25. bluenoser says: Oct 19, 2009 5:07 PM

I’m no Bills fan, but it seems to me that this is unfair. Really, they beat the Pats if not for a fluke fumble in the dying moments. They held Anderson to 2 completions and were within a few points of beating the lowly browns. They could easily be 4 and 2.
Go easy on the guy. Besides, whatever teinal illness e looks to be suffering from will surely get him first anyway.

That $1k+ could’ve provided more than 8,000 meals for starving people in Somalia.

  27. CliveRush says: Oct 19, 2009 5:14 PM

The fans in Buffalo are good people, as anyone who has traveled through the area could confirm. Nice people in upstate NY. They are frustrated by the lack of winning just like any other teams fans would be. Dick Jauron is a good man in a tough spot. He sticks up for the players and refuses to pass the blame. I hope they find a way to become competitive again for the good of the whole AFC East. The team has a heartbreaking history which outweighs their accomplishments. Maybe the Wilsons will give up control and allow new owners in to lead the team forward. This city could really use something good to root for. The new age of owners is taking over and money rules not loyalty. Good luck Buffalo.

  28. Bills-N-Yankees says: Oct 19, 2009 5:28 PM

“See you in LA?” Ask the Los Angeles Rams errrr no wait the Los Angeles Raiders, ahhhh hold on a second. At least Buffalo sells out every single game! Bills fans are the best in the NFL and anyone who says otherwise has clearly never been to a game at the Ralph! Go Bills!

  29. Fan_Of_ Four says: Oct 19, 2009 5:30 PM

Bailed out bank CEO’s get millions upon millions in bonuses for running banks into the ground and people rent a billboard for a crappy football coach ?

  30. Jim_Kelly12 says: Oct 19, 2009 6:29 PM

The Bills are on their way back to the promise land of .500 football.
Jauron needs to go. Brandon needs to go. This organization still needs an overhaul.
An overhaul might make the Bills successful which might help keep the Bills in Buffalo. This helps Western New York (a struggling economy) financially and in terms of morale.
The Billboard is an investment in the future of Buffalo.

Well thanks to the Golden Boy Sanchez, the Ball Burglar (a charity based on Buffalo takeaways) has raised a lot this week for other great causes.

Missed the plane flying overhead Oakland stadium during warm ups saying “Dog Fighter Go Home!”
    That is just priceless.
Going to cover the Mike Vick billboards too?
Smith, who attended a recent meeting between members of the Eagles front office and Philadelphia-area animal welfare groups, says he’ll also move forward with plans to place billboard advertisements near Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles’ home stadium. Smith originally told ESPN those billboards would have a strong anti-Vick message, but he has since toned down his rhetoric.

jauron is horrible. example. with just under 2 minutes left in a tied game with one timeout left, he opts not to get any more yardage, settling for a 44 yard field goal try into the wind. this is not today’s football coach. real coaches are looking for 10-15 more yards, if not the td.
