Wondering whose side to take in the burgeoning war of words between Ravens rookie tackle Michael Oher and Vikings defensive end Jared Allen?
Here's a little more context.
Two weeks ago, after the Patriots played the Ravens at Gillette Stadium, New England defensive lineman Ty Warren was asked about Oher on WEEI's Dale & Holley Show.
In broaching the subject of Oher, one of the hosts mentioned the 2006 book that Oher was at the center of, "Blind Side" by Michael Lewis.
"I actually had the same book but I think I'm gonna toss it after yesterday," Warren said back on October 5. "As a young player, he's a little mouthy. I didn't respect that much."
What brand of mouthy did Oher bring? According to Warren, "It wasn't genuine. Some people say stuff they mean and other times people say stuff for a crowd. It wasn't all directed towards me. It was real...fraudulent. i just don't respect stuff like that. But I can see him being a good player in this league.".
So while Allen's persona might make people nod with approval to hear him get tweaked by a rookie, the bigger point is that Oher runs his mouth. A lot. And for him to raise the ire of a player as professional and low-key as Warren, Oher must be especially irritating.
And we thought we'd cornered the market on irritating here at the PFT.
How about including some quotes of Oher "running his mouth a lot"? You know, actual journalism?
Besides the JA comments, I haven't heard him say much, and I live in Bmore.

Oher is a punk and will get his soon enough. All the heartwarming, soft and cuddly, Lifetime specials in the world don't change the fact that he's a punk and a prissy little whinner at that. Yeah, Allen had some initial success (as expected for a vet going against a rookie) but Oher put Allen on his ass several times in that game and totally shut his white ass down in the second half. Screw that steriod using hillbilly.

and then added "Oher was talking genuine...bogus stuff man!"

If you are going to troll the comments for additional information on PFT stories at least give credit to the person you "borrow" from. I wrote about that almost two hours ago on the original post... that fails to actually evidence an exchange of barbs, as one reader astutely pointed out.

It only appeared the kid was saying that he held his own against one of the best defensive ends in football. Anyone who thinks he didn't wasn't watching the game or else their brain is too clogged with beer cheese soup, leinekugels and brats.
Find something newsworthy like maybe that the Ravens are trading for a CB who can cover! Or how is chilly going to manage the vikings collapse after old number 4 starts his late season slide!

Did Warren also dominate Oher the way Jared Allen did? Allen had a very good stat sheet despite Oher getting a LOT of help to block him. Most tackles in this league would have limited Allen to less than 4 tackles for loss given all the help Oher had.
While Oher is solid for a rookie, he's still a below average tackle in the league. He should show more respect to superior players especially after they school him.
If Oher is a tool....wht does that make JA?? What he did was no better than Oher....I guess they are ust a couple of tools...
Vikings fans...look at it this way JA can faceoff again against Oher again next year in the Pro-Bowl....

Really? What makes you think that? Oher and many Ravens have been doing a lot of talking, and whining, during and after games the last three weeks; but they have not done much winning. I suspect that Allen, Warren and other opponents are pleased that Oher and the rest of the Ravens players and Coaches are apparently more interested in running their mouths than actually winning football games.
Oher and the Ravens should beat a team with a winning record before shooting their mouths off.
Between the book, and now the movie, Oher is going to receive a lot of attention, and probably veterans on other teams won't like that much - it probably is best for him to lay low this season, and just play.

Ask Joe Thomas and Alex Barron what they think of Jared Allen. I bet it's real similar to what Oher thinks. Not much judging from the 3 combined tackles and no sacks Jared posted in games against clevland and st. louis.
Jared Allen is obviously one of the best DE's in the league. This is proven. He is off to a monster start to this season.
Nothing said by some random rookie that Allen had a good game against can change this. Seriously. Does everyone just ignore that Allen had 7 tackles, 4 for loss, with a sack, and a near forced fumble?
The kid just didn't do well enough to get mouthy, especially considering that they lost the game.

All you Jared Allen haters would love the guy if he played on your favorite team. Don't bother arguing about it. He is having a great year, may be the best overall defensive end in the league. And sacks don't tell the whole story (although he has 7.5). Oher can say whatever he wants, but Allen and the Vikes were putting major pressure on Flacco all game long.

I'd say Oher is all about false confidence. Did anyone ask him why he jumped early 3 or 4 times in the game? It certainly couldn't have been because it as getting in his head that Allen was abusing him when he he didn't get any help. I mean Allen is white. Oher is black. Meaning Oher must be far better than Allen. Right? I wonder what Oher's parents would say about this. Probably something like "You got a spoon and a lighter?" or "Shouldn't someone be raising you?" something to that effect

He's arguably one of the best 3-4 DE's in the league. You should follow football, Rural Juror...I think you'd like it.
Put this into perspective Oher is starting for Gaither who has been injured the past two weeks, he definately has held his own against vested vetrans who taught they could steam roll the rookie. He can only get better here on out.
Oher has said about 10 words since coming to camp and starting from day 1. Who gives a crap about Ty Warren. Oher works hard, studies film, and blocks until the whistle. Maybe Ty Warren is pissed because he got his fat a$$ pancaked by the guy. As far as Jared Allen is concerned, the dude is probably the best DE in the league right now. The fact that Oher, who was playing out of position, didn't get schooled tells me alot. Even with the TWO (not 4) false starts.
As far as the Vikings fans strutting around like peacocks - ladies I should remind you that your vaunted defense pissed down its leg and almost lost you the game. A rookie kicker missing a makeable FG is all that is between you and serious recriminations today for losing at home to a team with serious issues in its defensive backfield.

I'm a Ravens fan and I don't think Ty Warren said anything inflammatory. He said Oher is going to be a good player in the league and he talks too much smack.
I'm happy we have him. Ozzie is an awesome judge of talent. But isn't the reason he slid to a position where we could get him is because there was no one on his team that could say a good thing about him as a person? The question isn't talent or ability. He has it. No one has really called that into question. The question these stories present is whether his personality will cause problems for him and the team.
Everyone, football player or not, has room to improve. For Oher, it might not be the technical issues he needs to worry about as much.
What's a bigger surprise? A football player that has a big mouth or a football player being offended by trash talking? Get real. Its part of the game!

I think if Allen and Warren are angry that he's so young and already talking trash, well, as long as it angers them, the trash talk is still doing its job.

@choirdrunk - the reason Oher slid to the bottom half of the first round was that GM's were concerned about his intelligence. He didn't learn to read until he was in high school when adopted by his family. His mother was a drug addict and his father not around. He bounced from foster home to foster home.
To my knowledge, there was never anything reported about him being a bad teammate at Ole Miss. In fact, I think he was a team Captain although I am not sure about that.
Bottom line - GM's were afraid to take a chance on a guy who grew up in an absolutely terrible situation until he was rescued by the Toohey's )(sp?). Ozzie saw a good kid and a really good football player. That is why he is the Oz and Michael Oher will be a probowler blocking for Joe Flacco another bottom half of the first round pick that Oz snatched. How many teams in front of us wish that they had picked Flacco now instead of the guy they wasted their money upon.

OKay Ravens/Oher haters. just want to set the record straight here. The Vikings are 6-0, which if history repeats itself with regard to Favre, projects out to an 8-8 season. We all know the old man chokes in November/December. By this time next month he'll be throwing more Int's than TD's.
Second, the Ravens are 3-3, having lost three straight by a combined total of 11 points, and all to 1st place teams. Last year their record at this point in the season was also 3-3, and they ended up 4 minutes away from the super bowl.
I watched the Vikes/Ravens on replay and specifically watched the Oher/Allen battle on every play. Allen made a couple good plays early as you would expect from a pro bowler. As Oher adjusted to him during the game, Allen became increasingly ineffective to the point that during the fourth quarter, Oher owned him. At one point, Oher was throwing him around like a rag doll. So, just calm your mullet loving buts down and realize your boy is not that amazing after all.
