Season-ending injury for Jenkins confirmed

Now 1-3 since winning the Super Bowl against the Patriots in Week Two, the Jets got another humbling piece of news Monday.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that nose tackle Kris Jenkins will indeed miss the season with a torn ACL.  Jenkins has already been placed on injured reserve. PFT wrote Sunday night about multiple reports that Jenkins was likely out for the year.

Jenkins’ play in New York hasn’t always been consistent; he’s occasionally as dominant as any player in the league.  Sometimes, he’s merely good.  But as a quality nose tackle in a 3-4 defense, he’s among the toughest players to replace in the league.

Rex Ryan, who has enjoyed having Haloti Ngata and Jenkins in his last two spots, will have to get creative to make up for Jenkins’ absence the rest of the season.

While many people enjoy hating on the Jets and would rather make slick comments about them. When it comes down to football talk. Losing Jenkins is one of the worst things that can happen to a team in there stages.
This team is built to preform now, but they are very much a young team that will be great i feel in two years.
Losing Jenkins will hurt the the team on the field but his presence on the sidelines and in the locker room will be huge because he is such a big leader.

this is a huge loss for the jets.
ask the chargers what losing a nose tackle for the year does to your defense.. its not pretty.

HUGE loss for the Jets……they look pretty pedestrian right now…..doesn’t look good!!!

  4. kravon says: Oct 19, 2009 4:12 PM

So who else in the New York media is still crowing for a Jets/Giants Superbowl?

  5. Thunderlipps says: Oct 19, 2009 4:12 PM

    Ouch…
Maybe they could trade their 1st round pick for a potential replacement, and not have a pick until day 2 of the draft…. this philosophy has proven to be an extremely effective long term solution, like were seeing in Cleveland right now.

Nah nah nah nah nahhh I made you eat your parents.

LOL. Ryan will learn that in this league…you have to keep your mouth shut and show humility. Or else the league will humble you on its own….

ruh roh… tough to replace the big guy, he is a presence that commands attention from 2-3 guys per play, Pouha is fairly big but doesn’t create near as much havoc. wonder what Rex can do to make up for this loss…

That sound you heard was Samson Satele and Chris Morris breathing sighs of relief.
I hate to see players suffer season ending injuries, even if it will go a big step toward helping my Raiders. It never feels right when you gain advantage by injury.
The Achilles Heel of the 3-4 is the big, bad NT. If he goes down, things can unravel quick.

that’s a shame. he was the only classy player left on that team.

That’s a tough break for the Jets. Jenkins is a beast when he’s motivated.
I want to feel bad for the team, but then I look at their fans and say, screw em.

    !@#$ the Jets.

    Very much a young team?
Starters Kris Jenkins, Shaun Ellis, Marques Douglas, Alan Faneca, Thomas Jones and Damien Woody are already on the wrong side of 30. I don’t think Bart Scott and Lito Sheppard are far behind. And we do not know if they have a QB of the future yet. I appreciate your optimism, but it may be misplaced.

Raiders will beat the JEts this week and move to 3-4. A win the following week against SD will have the Raiders 4-4 going into the Bye week.
    Just win, baby!

Patriots to beat Jets next time.

As much as I HATE the Jets, I don’t like to see this happen…
Jenkins is a great player, and from what I’ve seen, a class act (I met him breifly once at a resturaunt in NJ). He was probably the only member of the enite Jets organization who took responsibility for the loss and gave the Dolphins credit for beating them, instead of crying about the wildcat.

Maybe the Eric Mangini will trade them Sean Rogers for a backup punter and a 6th round pick.

Well time for Rex to actually wear that #77 jersey he told Channing Crowder he would be wearing.
In all seriousness that sucks for Jenkins, not the Jets, I hate the Jets (Phins fan). I hate seeing season or career ending injuries. Hope he has a speedy recovery and back on the field next year.

They’re going to have to go to a line of Douglas-Pouha-Ellis, and there really isn’t any depth behind them, unless they start using Gholston at DE.
Remember when all the Jets fans scoffed at losing Kenyon Coleman in the Sanchez trade, and trading away pick after pick after pick, saying it wasn’t a big deal? Well, now you’ll find out how far crap depth will get you.
Enjoy your 6-10 season, but don’t worry, you can still trade all your picks again to move up to draft Suh.

well thank god they already won the super bowl, because this would have hurt them…oh, it’s October? really? someone better send t-rex a calendar.

AND Sanchez has been sucking? Bad times for Gang Green.
    Fargas for 100 Alex.

JETS = Just End The Season
Happy 40 years of NOT playing in the SUPER BOWL and what appears to be many more years to come!

  23. BuffaloTed says: Oct 19, 2009 8:47 PM

Sorry that nose tackle Kris Jenkins will miss the season.

  24. patsSB44champs says: Oct 20, 2009 8:26 AM

This sucks for you guys (not for us though). The nose tackle is the single most important guy in terms of making a 3-4 defense work. Your defense just took a major hit. Oh well.
    Go Pats.

  25. Evan says: Oct 20, 2009 8:54 AM

At least the Jets didn’t string me along for 11 games like they did last season.
Time to start rooting for the other 30 teams in the NFL (besides the Pats).
As a Jets fan, I can take solace in the fact that, at the very least, the Patriots will not win the Super Bowl.
    Go Saints, Giants, Vikings, Broncos!

Is there an auto-reply button on here that I don’t know about? Because I swear I’ve seen a couple of these posts verbatim on other threads…
