Tank Tyler traded to Carolina

It’s been reported that every Chiefs player except quarterback Matt Cassel is available via trade.

One of them has indeed been moved.

Defensive tackle Tank Tyler tells our pal Nick Wright of 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City that he has been shipped to Carolina.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that the Chiefs will receive a 2010 fifth-round pick for Tyler.

Tyler was acquired by the Chiefs via the third round of the 2007 draft.  He doesn’t fit into a 3-4 defense as well as he meshes with the Panthers’ 4-3.  Carolina has had needs all year at the position, dating back to Ma’ake Kemoeatu’s season-ending Achilles’ tendon injury from training camp.

The trade deadline is tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. ET.

Carl Peterson, defensive line drafting genius.

Cassell is available, but untradable with that contract, so they are just saying that to be nice to him.

The Panthers are wrecking their future by trading away so many draft picks in recent years.

    Tank, We Hardly Knew Ye

Cassel’s contract is the perfect contract for a team that’s not competing right now. The last 3 years of his deal is only 7 million per. The contract is front loaded to leave money in the later years for other players.
regardless, good bye tank. room on the depth chart for Vince Wilfork or Casey Hampton and their upcoming UFA status.

Oh Bob…here you go again, typing before thinking. Or…maybe you tried to think.
They are trading a craptacular 5th round pick for a guy that was drafted in 2007 as a 3rd round pick and now he gets to play for a team that runs a 4-3. Clearly the Panthers believe this guy still has some potential and upside in their system. Trading away a 5th round pick for a guy that is like 24 years old is hardly wrecking the future.

Tank will probably be the first of many. DJ pack your bags. LJ pack your bags. We will get 2 picks for DJ and one pick for LJ. Trade them now.

if i am the Chiefs i keep Derrick Johnson and re sign him, trade Larry Johnson to the Packers or any team needing a running back for a 2nd round pick and keep Cassel, Cassel has shown me that he is no fluke, i wish i had him quarterbacking the Redskins

It’s pretty obvious to me that John Fox and Marty Hurney are making moves like they won’t be back, because as was already said, we’ve already given up so much in next year’s draft. A pick for Louis Leonard (IR), a 1st rounder for Everette Brown, and I think I’m forgetting something else. Hopefully he’s worth it, as said a 5th rounder is a pretty low pick, and its not like Carolina has drafted all that well in later rounds, so hopefully this works out.

    Spot on Osterhouse.
Tank Tyler is a really young DT who can clog the middle with plenty of potential for a 4-3 system. People said the same crap about Hollis Thomas and he’s played great so far in his 2 games @ Carolina. Its obvious he’s freeing up the DE’s in our system so they can do more. With 2 fattys like this in the middle it helps everyone on defense.
Besides its nice to see a hometown guy come play in carolina. Tank Tyler spent his highschool days in Fayetville and his college days @ NCSU with Manny Lawson, Mario Williams, and other NCSU guys that have been solid defensive players in the league. Amatto wasn’t a great coach but sure as hell knew how to recruit and teach his defensive guys….

Bob, you are drifting from the purpose of your mission here. Suppose it will have to be go this one time, but remember your ultimate goal.
In regards to the trade, why wouldn’t the chiefs make this trade? next year is going to be a deep draft, and once their front office gets the people they want in place, they should do just fine in a weaker division.

    I will miss Tank.
He was one of my favorite players.
    Good luck in Carolina.

Do the panthers have any 2010 draft picks left? Unless they dump some players in the offseason they are wrecked for the future.

Why does everyone like DJ so much? He has been average at best.

carl peterson isn’t qualified to teach high school gym. what a bloody mess he left.
the guy is named tank. he’s a huge being. if he can’t play nose in 3-4, then y not ship him off? he’s of no use. now, if ron edwards gets hurt…..
he started all 16 games last year; kc’s d was awful and they won 2 games. he was benched after 2 games this year. trade advantage : KC.
maybe bill cowher can motivate this guy next year. oh wait, doesn’t he run a 3-4?
can some1 please please please tally up KC’s draft picks for next year? with the trade for succop, alleman/nduke, thigpen, and now this, i have lost track. it would be mucho appreciated.
