Week Six Morning Aftermath: Chiefs 14, Redskins 6

The game itself wasn't pretty.  The aftermath was pretty damn compelling.

The 0-5 Chiefs somehow reversed a 2-28 slide by going to Washington and toppling the Redskins.

A 3-0 Kansas City lead at the half prompted coach Jim Zorn to finally yank quarterback Jason Campbell, and Todd Collins promptly hooked up on a deep ball with receiver Santana Moss.

Before too long, the Redskins led, 6-3.

But the Chiefs wouldn't go away.  They adjusted on the fly to Collins, shut the Redskins down the rest of the way, and kept scoring points.  With four field goals from rookie kicker Ryan Succop, the last man taken in the 2009 draft, and a late safety, the Chiefs nailed down an eight-point win.

There were no stellar performances on either side.  If receiver Dwayne Bowe is indeed on the block, he showed a lot of leg with a 109-yard performance.  Running back Larry Johnson was solid but not spectacular with 83 yards on 23 tries.  Clinton Portis somehow managed more than 100 yards on the ground for the Redskins.

The real fun began once the final gun sounded.  Executive V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato, who is now believed to be sharing a hot seat with Jim Zorn, stripped Zorn of his play-calling duties -- and Zorn surprisingly agreed with the move.

NBC's Tony Dungy disagreed with it.

"I went through this in Tampa," Dungy said during Football Night In America.  "This is not a good thing.  I made a mistake and acquiesced to that.  If you're Jim Zorn you have to say, 'I'm in charge of this team on the field.  If I'm not, then get rid of me.'"

The "get rid of me" possibly is still coming, after Sherm Lewis gets a dress rehearsal next Monday night with a play-calling function that he never performed while working under Mike Holmgren in Green Bay, with Zorn potentially being let go if/when the Redskins lose to the Eagles.

Then the question becomes whether Cerrato follows Zorn out the door now, or whether he sticks around through the end of the season before being replaced.

With an offense that could mange somehow to put up only 21 points per game, this team would be 5-1 right now. That makes you want to vomit.

Its bad. The game was bad, the team is so bad on offense (still a top 5 defense) and changes are a must. Firing Zorn is an effort to save Cerratos job, because Snyder is seriously considering Shanahans demand for front office control and GM duties. And Shanahan can not only coach, but he can draft. The Skins get the Eagles then the bye. We always play the Eagles tough, even when we are bad. If we win, that keeps Zorn employed. But in all fairness, Zorn should be employed through the season. Firing him early does nothing but hurt us. This should get interesting.

    Prediction
    Zorn fired next week
    Cerrato fired at seasons end
Shanahan gets the Skins coach and GM job
Shanahan drafts O lineman and a QB (hopefully Mccoy)
    Skins fans gets excited
NONE OF IT MATTERS, and we still dissapoint next year, like we always do...

Isn't it time to start referring to Jim Zorn as the interim head coach?

"And Shanahan can not only coach, but he can draft."

Allow me to introduce you to the Broncos drafts between 2000-2004. Only *one* player currently on our roster from a five-year span. Yeah, he's the best.

    MY PREDICTION:

    Zorn gets canned
    Vinny stays
Snyder continues to bilk the fans
    Snyder hire Jim Fassel
    Team continues to stink

NO DECENT COACH will come here so long as Vinny is here and Danny keeps meddling in football operations.

Shanahans drafts have been good. He grabbed Cutler, all their solid running backs over the years, and a number of excellent undrafted free agents over the years.
And pick ANY team in the NFL and see how many draft picks from 2000-2004 are still on the roster. Id bet that no one except maybe the Colts has more than 10 players still on the roster from that time.
And when Shanahan got fired, look how many players were moved. I think you need to recheck your stats on his draft history.

    HAIL TO THE DEADSKINS
    HAIL MISERY
    PUSSIES ON THE WARPATH
    ANOTHER....LOSS.....FOR DC!!

God I love it. The delusional big mouth Deadskin fans are at a loss for words. That's OK guys....you always have the Caps.....that is, until they play Pittsburgh.

Go ahead, hire Shanahan, and give him full control. Ha ha!!! Like his picks in Denver have panned out. Ha ha ha ha!!!

God this franchise is so royally screwed.

cerrato is a majority of the problem. when he goes, so does the stink.

The Skins have a quarterback who broke almost every collegiate record for passing, completions, scoring, etc. He's sitting on the bench. Give Colt Brennan a chance to show what he can do.

Colt Brennan is on injured reserve and cannot play this season.

It seems every time a Franchise is having trouble with a coach, someone invokes the name of Shanahan. Does anyone recall who was the QB that led the Broncos to the Superbowl and win? John Elway retired, Cutler was no Elway. Orton is definitely not Elite. All Shanahan did was ride a HOF QB to the dance. He proved jack squat since. He was dumped for McDaniels whom is making more out of the pieces in Denver than Shanahan could. Was it smart to hire Zorn in the first place? Probably not, if his answer to adversity is to tuck his head and take his whippin. However, he is not the one to blow the teams cash on old, subprime soon to be onetime probowlers. I don't pretend to know whom should be hired because there are probably lots of young, bright prospects out there. The Redskins would do well to not go to the glue factory and give Shanahan a reprieve. They could do better.
I agree OL and QB are issues to fix.
