Lendale says Vince Young "is ready"

Titans running back LenDale White, who knows a thing or two about being eclipsed by another player at the same position, talked about whether former starting quarterback Vince Young is prepared to return to action during Monday’s edition of Sporting News Radio’s The Monty Show.

“Vince just has to be patient, things happen, you know?” White said.  “You’ve just got to be ready, when that times comes and they throw an opportunity your way you’ve gotta be ready to jump into the driver’s seat and take that wheel and bring home the race and I think Vince is ready for that.”

White then was careful not to bench current starter Kerry Collins prematurely.  “When they give [Vince] the opportunity he’ll be ready to go, until then or whatever the case is, if Kerry’s our quarterback we’re going to go out there and fight for Kerry and try to get some wins.”

Regardless of whether it’s Collins or Young under center, White thinks that the Titans will return after the bye week with a new attitude.

“We’ve all just got to come together and believe,” White said.  “I believe in all my teammates that we’re going to get the job done.  And I know that they are going to get it done.  The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for us to regroup, refocus, and get everything under control.  I think once we get back from the bye week and get our heads back on top of our shoulders we can come back and get a win.”

Getting a win is something the Titans haven’t done since December 21, when they beat the Steelers and White stomped on a Terrible Towel.

Since that day, the Titans have lost eight straight games.

Their 59-0 drubbing by the Patriots was one of the low points in franchise history, and it suggests that White’s teammates might not be getting many or any wins this year.

    Vince SHOULD be ready.
    That’s his job as a backup QB…

    Vince Young “Is Ready”?
    Did LenDale cook Vince?
Is he going to eat him now?
I skipped all the paragraphs and words and shit in the story, just trying to guess what probably is happening.

Young is ready to do what? Take his Wonderlic again? Ask the coach to dumb down the offense some more? Quit on his team? Have his mother call in to radio shows to defend him? Lay on the ground for 2 minutes after he takes a slight bump from a defensive player? Cry about his hardship childhood?
What is Young ready to do? Hopefully the answer is to pack up his bags and leave town. He’s too stupid and immature to do much of anything positive in football other than run a spread option college game. One day he, Harrington, and Tebow will be able to sit back and talk about how they were great college quarterbacks who never got the chance they deserved in the pros.

He’s ready with that 6 he scored on the Wonderlic?

For a guy who hasn’t done anything this year he sure has alot to say.

As a big Pats fan, I know the Titans looked terrible this past Sunday, but Collins did not look as horrible as the statistics showed. There were many dropped balls which killed the team. He certainly looked better than Vince Young !

I wish they would play Young every game as the starter. Play him all game every game for the rest of the year.
If he can get it together and gets the respect back from his teamates, well then ok. If not, trade him….we need key players in other positions besides QB.
And go ahead and stomp some more on that towel!

ready for the hall of fame again?

  10. Chevy says: Oct 20, 2009 2:37 PM

The only thing Vince Young is ready for is to make a complete fool of himself again. He’s not smart enough to be a QB in the NFL, he’s not durable enough to even play NFL football. Do yourself and your family well by just hanging the cleats up before you break yourself again.

Curiously missing is a statement about the teams confidence in their coaches.

“He’s ready with that 6 he scored on the Wonderlic?”
Vince attended a school district that has been under fire for years for poor management and just moving kids along to get them out of the system.
The last couple of years have been pretty sweet on talk radio here in Houston. For the longest time, the airwaves were full of UT fans and guys who “knew Vince in high school” telling everyone what a mistake the Texans made in not drafting the hometown hero. It got to be sickening to the point of turning the station. Haven’t heard much since then.
Many of his teammates at UT saw Vince’s demise coming. If the halfway intelligent fan could see that he was a one-read-and-run QB then many on this site are qualified to be a GM in the NFL.
This is the kind of disaster that happens to a franchise when a guy like Bud Adams steps in and overrides the coaches on draft day. Nice job, Bud. You’ll always be remembered in Houston for that dog-and-pony show where the model for your new football stadium fell apart when you tried to pick it up.

Sounds like maybe Vince is going to quit football and become a NASCAR driver.

Vince is an outstanding QB, both college and now pro.
Rookie of the year his first year – took a losing team to within one game of an unlikely playoff bid.
Took the Titans to the playoffs his second year – youngest QB in franchise history to start in a playoff game.
Third year – injured in first game and hasn’t had a chance to play since.
Vince is a proven winner. Collins fell asleep at the wheel in game 2 this year and hasn’t woken up. Time for Fisher to wake up and put in the wasted talent he’s got sitting on the sideline.

  18. JT11 says: Oct 20, 2009 4:00 PM

youngest QB in franchise history to start in a playoff game.
Yeah but the Oilers had George Blanda, Warren Moon, Dan Pastorini, and Kerry Collins. Vince could’ve been about 31 or so and still been the youngest QB in franchise history to start a playoff game.

  19. scott_nchills says: Oct 20, 2009 4:10 PM

Bottom line is his track record so far is about as good as it gets for a first / second year QB. It typically takes years for a kid to develop into pro QB position. Vince was a winner right out of the gates.
All of this crap these people spew about him is just ignorance – sounds like they don’t really follow the game seriously. They just hear a headline (so he went missing one day last year – big whoop), and that’s the sum total of their knowledge of the player and now they’re all experts (Not so much).
Folks, know your facts before posting, otherwise you just sound idiotic.

  20. NashvilleSeahawk says: Oct 20, 2009 5:34 PM

Since he ranked 30th in the league for 2006 with a 66.7 qb rating, I guess that translates into “winner right out of the gates.” Wow, I hope the Titans don’t draft another “winner” like that. Maybe you meant Young’s 2007 year. Wait, nope. He was ranked 26th with a 71.1 rating. Let’s see, Young already had NFL experience that year. I think that was the same year that Cutler ranked 12th in the league and it was truly his first year.
Maybe Lendale meant that Young is “ready” to be able to speak full sentences in the English language. Wait, nope, just watched a clip of him from last week and that’s not it either.
Does anyone know what Ben did for the Steelers his rookie year? That’s right, in 2004, Ben’s first year as a pro, he ranked 5th in the league with a 98.
Wow, I must just be an idiot, because I can’t understand how Young’s qb rating in the 30th or 26th position is equal to Cutler and Roethlisburger’s ratings of 12th and 5th respectively.

  21. scott_nchills says: Oct 20, 2009 7:52 PM

Rookie and 2nd year QB ‘rating’ = definition of a future successful quarterback? Of course not.
Is Vince the most accurate passer in the league (i.e. ‘QB rating’)? No. Does he win games? Yes.
Using your “1st and 2nd year QB rating” metric, you can probably erase the legacies of dozens of hall of famer quarterbacks.
Winning games / finding a way to put more entries in the W column = definition of successful quarterback. Yep.
In the end, it is wins and losses. Vince finds a way to win. Enough said.

  22. scott_nchills says: Oct 20, 2009 8:14 PM

By the way – how about lets look at Cutler’s W/L record in his first few seasons?
    2006: 9-7 (didn’t make the playoffs)
2007: 7-9 (first losing record for the Broncos since 1999)
    2008: 8-8 (no playoffs)
Hmm, that pesky win/loss stat. In my book, that trumps any ‘formulas’ (by the way – go look up the formula for ‘QB rating’ – kind of reminds me of the BCS system – in the end it really doesn’t mean much unless you’re a mathematician).
No one can or should be compared to Roethlisburger when it comes to first year stats – not even the legends. The guy is an anomaly. So bringing up his stats is really irrelevent.

  23. NashvilleSeahawk says: Oct 20, 2009 8:30 PM

So you can be a “proven winner” your first couple of years but you can’t be a “proven loser”? Hmmm.
I guess since ROY is so important, then everyone in the world must know these guys: Anthony Thomas,
Mike Anderson, Leonard Russel, Troy Stradford.

Well, anyway it will be interesting to see what happens with Young. I figure they will start him in a couple of weeks.
