With Antoine Winfiled hobbled by a sprained foot and Karl Paymah clearly not the answer, the Vikings kicked the tires on three free agents Tuesday.
Per a league source, the Vikings worked out Mark Parson, Trae Williams, and DeAndre Wright.
Curiously, the Vikings opted not to take a second look at their 2006 third-round pick, Marcus McCauley, who worked out for and signed with the Buccaneers today. (Then again, it’s possible that the Vikings tried and McCauley said, “No thanks.”)
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings are expected to sign Wright, who was drafted earlier this year in the sixth round by the Giants.
On the surface, it’s a sign that the Vikings are looking for help in the event that starter Antoine Winfield misses significant time with a sprained foot, a diagnosis roughly as precise as “sprained knee.”
But it could be that the Vikings are looking for someone to replace Paymah, who by all rights should be sent packing based on his terrible performance against the Ravens on Sunday.
where the heck is chris mcalister??
I think Jason David is still available.
The Vikings coaches just need to explain to “Paymah Rent” that to play CB in the NFL you need to actually turn your body sometimes. His curent technique of run as fast as you can, jump in the air, and awkwardly try to reach behind his head for the ball isn’t working very well.
A decent cover guy and only fair run stopper in college. Nothing exciting, sounds like Twon’ must have minor injury.
Being at the game myself I would have to say that Paymah’s performance was abysmal. On the touchdown to, I believe it was Mark Clayton, he was trying to make a pick over his shoulder and then Clayton jumped up and caught the ball behind himself.
If Winfield misses significant time the vikings may have trouble filling his role. Sapp will more than likely stay at the nickel position and Paymah hasn’t played well all season even as the team’s Dimeback.
Good thing the offense is rolling or they could be in serious trouble.
Based on last week’s performance, Paymah was absolutely horrible and deserves to be cut. I think anyone could be an improvement.
lol @ swedishmurdermachine
yes it would be helpful to the team and beneficial to himself if he actually was facing either the ball or the reciever.
Everybody gets injuries and it would appear like the floodgates that is the Viking’s secondary have opened wider. That’s alright, it will provide a convenient excuse for the fans as the Vikes swirl downward like a turd being flushed down the hole.
Darn, just when it looked like it was a lock for Miami.
Breaking news statistic:
Minnesota’s Team: top five in the league
Minnesota’s Fans: still bottom three
only team with worse fans are Oakland and Philly.
It’s Marcus McCauley.
At JimmyJackoff -Twon’ will see Mr. Rodgers in Favres’s old neighborhood Nov. 1st,bet your violated ass!
HAHAHHA JimmySmith! Flushed down the toilet….Kind of like what your retarded mother shoulda done with the load your unemployed half-wit father dropped in her after he finished paying her to go bareback!!!!!
With that incompetent secondary (24th in defense against the pass) that desperate team better get all the help they can find.
They face the league leader in yards (Roethlisberger) this weekend and still have to face Manning, Warner, Cutler twice, Rodgers, Hasselback and Palmer.
That 24th Nfl pass defense ranking will be dropping once their schedule toughens up.
Last year during camp with the Broncos they did everything they could to give him Dre Bly’s job and he could not beat out Dre Bly or Dre Bly’s ego. Then, after Champ Bailey went down with a major injury, Paymah was given every opportunity to be the replacement. Josh Bell, an undrafted free agent from Baylor, who had been previously cut by San Diego, came in and beat him out for the position. Bell was slow, small, and weak, but he did however know how to play foootball. Bell and his blazing 4.7 speed are not currently on an NFL roster this year. Ever since Paymah was drafted he has been a “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane” player. He is such a tremendous athlete, every year in Denver was the year he was going to “emerge.” Only one problem, while he is strong, fast and athletic, he is not and never has been a professional football player. He can’t play football. Other than than that, he’s a great guy to have on the team. He really intimidates the opposition during warm ups.
Trade deadline hasn’t passed: send a pick to Oakland for Chris Johnson. I bet Al doesn’t even know he exists.
JimmySmith is just like Florio in that they like to act like the typical scorned Vikings fan that won’t be positive until the Vikings win the Super Bowl. He only comments on Vikings news. Typical crybaby!
The Viking secondary is looking so bad maybe someone will nickname them “Baby Swiss” — oops, that’s already taken.
Seriously, anyone want to also note that starting nickle back Benny Sapp got a concussion on Sunday, and had to leave the game. That means we lost two (the number after 1 for Packer fans) corners last week.
The Vikes have 3rd round rookie Asher Allen (inactive to this point) to play, but probably need some more depth.
Hopefully Antoine will be back at full strength after the bye week…
Vikes take on the Steelers’ number two passing offense this week. Not a good time to be plugging in cast-offs in the secondary.
JimmySmith, it’s good to hear from you again. I regret that you were not considered for the position of Executive Dictator of the NFLPA, and now they have whatsizface instead, but I did my best to promote your run to greatness with my stirring haiku. So we live and learn. Peace.

I agree, Viking fans are pretty embarrasing. They only root for their team if the team is a winner. Just wait when they get torched in the play-offs by the likes of the Saints, unless of course their bucket of luck is still half full?
The Vikings are easily the worst 6-0 team in the league that should be 4-2 (2 miracle wins). The schedule is toughening and Favre is aging. I can’t want to see the crash as the season ages. It WILL happen.
Just look at their offensive and defensive stats for proof. It’s in the pudding.
I see the dickless. witless wonders are back.
Jimmy and Bob, what a pair. Doing all they can to tear down and undefeated team.
In fairness, this has to be their worst nightmare, Brett Favre leading an undefeated Vikings team.
Paymeh was BROUGHT IN FOT SPECIAL TEAMS! He was pressed into action because of Sapp’s injury.
If you click on Vikings expected to sign Wright, it says in the article that the Vikes don’t expect twone to miss too much time.
I’m hoping they win, but it would not be unexpected to lose to Pitt.
We aren’t going undefeated anyway.
Face it Packer fans, the Vikes can play .500 ball the rest of the way and still be 11-5, that’s more than enough to win the division.
Keep waiting for the train wreck that’s never going to happen.
I’ve never seen a fanbase root more for a rivals loss than their own teams wins.
That puts the Packers at the top of the heap for most pathetic.
Yeah I don’t think the Vikes deserve to be crowned just yet, let them honorably win a few games without relying on the old shamrock to save them. Have a funny feeling the Vikes will suffer a huge loss on Sunday (injury) that will really pull the plug on their season, I hope I am wrong but I can feel it.
@ NFLJunkie – “Favre is aging” lol We all are every minute you douchebag, too bad Favre’s arm is not! You have the NFL mind of lets say…Mark Schlereth. Or Dan Dierdorf. Just look at the post. It’s in the pudding!

Well from time to time teams have their issues, with the Packers pretty much owning the division the last how many years, 10? The bone is now thrown to the Vikes, cherish it Viking fans, it doesn’t come too often 4 you (Ha 4 you, love it), and I expect the NFC North to have a couple very good teams in the coming years, I think the Vikes will not be in that equation, so enjoy your bone now.
The worse 6-0 team is still 6-0…unless the NFL starts adding style point, it doesn’t matter how you get there…
It’s easy to say the crash will happen, say it enough times for each team in the NFL and you’ll probably be right at least once — ya hear that Bob, there’s hope for you yet
@ Chickenfoot – Keep up the good work! It’s merely target practice with these football IQ challenged Pack homers.

Well my friend; that’s the way it goes, sometimes in bitter rivalries it is the upmost fun to watch the demise of the opposition; especially when your team isn’t fairing too well. I do recall this same behavior out of Viking fans when the Packers where going 13-3 a few years ago; Hmmm.. remember that? Yeah same old thing, you Viking fans did it too; as do many heated rivalries.
As expected, Bob Nelson rides in on his horse made of cheese to try and show off his vast (yet flawed) knowledge.
Yep, the Vikes are 24th in passing yards. WOW!
I’m not concerned about how many yards they give up. YPG allowed is a flawed stat at determining much, looking at the fact that teams 2nd-4th in the NFL in YPG are Carolina, Buffalo, and Washington. How are they doing?
They are at the top of the league in +/-, and have given up 9 TDs in the air (psst, the Giants and Eagles are in the top 5 for YPG and have given up 8).
I figured at the beginning of the season the game in Pitt was going to be a loss on the board anyway, so I hope they rest Winfield, which it sounds is going to happen (welcome to the NFL Mr. Asher Allen).
He deserves enjoying the ass whooping the Vikes will be putting on the following week first hand in Lambeau when the Packers offensive line let the Vikes front 4 drop “Erin” Rodgers on his head.
Good luck with that.

Now, Now PervyHarvin, we don’t have to resort to kindergarden name calling do we; we can all have our “opinion” here can’t we? It’s an all out war in here.. Packer Fans (Hating on Favre) vs. Viking Fans (Drunk on Kool-Aid). The knock out will come in the first round of the playoffs. Stay tuned; and don’t forget to wear your rain boots, the spilled purple kool-aid will be knee deep come January.
Honestly I could shove a spoon up my ass and it would be less painful than reading all of these “enlightening” opinions. I freakn bleed purple and yes there are Vikings fans who are that loyal. 4 super bowls lost, still wearing purple. 1998 knee, missed field goal, Dennis Green’s moment of choke, devastated, still tune in every Sunday. 41 to 0, I freakn pimp my moss jersey from time to time tho I am partial to my Jarred Allen throw back or Bret freakn 40 year old still light your asses up former Packer breakn fudge packer backers hearts Favre home jersey. Authentics I might add no f@#kn screen prints please. And when I’m fealn like one of my D tackles just might bury your running back right there on the field I break out my Kevin Mammoth Williams home purple like getto kool-aid with the damn captain patch sit back and watch it happen. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS THIS YEAR OR NEXT I WILL BE SCREAMING AT THE TV for AP to run the ball like he stole something from your team or hoping BIG Pat Williams lands on your QB and cracks one if not multiple ribs and sends them to the locker room for an MRI. I love my 2009 Vikings and beyond. 29th in the pass or what the freak ever. So from the bottom of my shorts to all you jibber jabbers……SUCK IT.
Packer fans like making predictions. It gives them an excuse to dress up like Miss Cleo.
But seriously, if the Vikings have to rest some injured starters this is the week to do it. They need to be at full strength when they play over in Wisconsin. A big win there and that pretty much ends the Packers season.
@ bob nelson
keep up the great work in achieving the secret goal, you are getting closer and closer everyday with every post you make, thanks a ton for taking one for the team….
@ jimmysmith
What are you, some sort of angst-filled emo 12 year old? shouldn’t you be off cutting yourself and writting bad poetry? get a life you fool, Even if the vikes DID lose every game the rest of the year, we would finish with the same record your beloved packers did last year, so yeah, i suppose that is in the toilet bowl isnt it? The vikes are going to make a good run this year, no worries.
@ Omegaxxxxx- First, let me congratulate you, a cheesehead with the spine to address me. Still can’t get your best and smartest fans (Bob Nelson and Jimmy) to.
To see the “GREAT FAVRINI” performing his magic with the team that provokes the hate and envy of every Packer lover is…well, sure traumatizing for you. And thankyou, the Kool-Aid is cold and refreshing. Be drinking it deep into the playoffs while you are watching…us…and rooting for our demise.
Wow.
Good stuff eatit.
I can’t cram the fact that the Vikings are going into Heinz field for a game that they DON”T HAVE TO WIN up the curd eating bastards asses far enough.
Mind if I borrow your spoon?
@ NFLjunkie
You should really get your facts straight when saying the Vikings offensive and defensive stats are terrible.
Vikings averaging 32 points per game. Last I checked most teams win when they score 32. And also people talking about miracle wins. Seems to me the Broncos had one of those too.
Secondly, the Vikings lead the NFL in sacks. Doesn’t sound too bad to me.
I agree that Antoine’s injury does probably mean that the Vikings go 1-1 in the next two weeks but a 7-1 record at the halfway point isn’t half bad.
Omega, go check facts before you spout off.
The Vikings have the most division titles since coming into the league in ’61, be it the North or the Central.
Also, you seem to have forgotten the last 5 years. The Pack have won the division once. When did they last get out of the 1st round of the post season in that great 10 year run? The Bears have, at least THEY can make that point.
WOW! Thats dominating the past decade the Pack has had!.
@ eatit- Amen dude, people (Packer Fans) are making generalizations based on a couple fans who only start rooting for the Vikes when the record is good, as you’ll have with ANY TEAM IN THE NFL. Theres always gonna be some fans like that, I would know because I have many friends who have just recently become Vikings fans again. I wonder why…
I’ve lived through the Love Boat incident. I’ve lived through the 41-0 whooping. I’ll always be a Vikings fan no matter how embarassing/glorifying it is to admit.
Quit making up things about our fanbase. We’re 6-0, deal with it.

Come on Pervy, haven’t we discussed this? Don’t judge all Packer fans by Bob, Jimmy, or Adam. They represent our fan base as poorly as the KKK represents America. There aren’t many of them, they’re embarrassingly ignorant, everyone hates them, but they’re loud and obnoxious, so you still hear about them. Just ignore them and maybe, EVENTUALLY they go away.
Oh, and I should think you would know this, but Maybe you’ve only been a “true” Viking fan for a few months now, like so many others, so here goes: When your team sucks, and a rival is making a run, your new favorite team is automatically whoever is playing against them that week. Ask someone who was a Viking fan in the 90′s, they’ll tell you how it is. They did it then, we’re doing it now. Take it as a sign of respect. You have a good team. We don’t. It’s that simple.
Hey Omega…
how bout a nice 6-0 bone for you to enjoy!
HA!
Wow. Some funny sh*t on here. Look at the Viking haters. Don’t act like you know Viking fans. They are just like any other. 6-0 is 6-0. All that matters are wins and losses fellas. Don’t be mad that Favre is THRIVING. What? 3rd rated QB behind the beloved Manning and Brees? Pretty good for someone who is washed up, and I am huge Brees fan, so there. He is just getting started and unless he takes a big hit, I don’t see him slowing down.
The Vikes won the games they were supposed to win, and beat the 3 good teams they have played. Doesn’t matter how, they just found a way to win. If they ever do start putting teams away, look out. 12-4, NFC Champs.

In the last 10 years the fudge Packers have won 4 division titles, the Vikings have won 3, and the Bears have won 3. I am having trouble understanding your meaning of owning. Not to mention one of those years the Vikings finished second and Moss showed you the moon while we beat you in Lambeau in the playoffs. I think I am finally understanding the logic of a Packers fan. So by your account the Packers must have owned the other teams so far this year. I’ve never hear so much smack talk by a team who finished 6-10 the year before with the exact same roster.
can’t believe you let these scumbag porkers on here – they are truly offensive -another slap to the bratt sucker coming you’r way pigs
LOL, you Viking fans are as stupid as they come! When your precious LA, I mean Minnesota Vikings fall I will be here to enlighten you even further! BY the way Cheese curds suck!
Ha!
Franchise, you’re a very typical moron. 2007 maybe?? Unless the Conference Championship comes before the 1st round of the postseason, YOU should “check your facts before you spout off”.
The Vikings won by default after the Pack and Bears both tanked last year. THIS YEAR, the Vikings have a good team. The best they’ve had since 1998, in fact, although they didn’t quite make the championship game (like the Pack did in 07) there either. Who’s had a dominating decade again?
The article is on signing player(s) to help the weak viking secondary.
The comments should be directed at the article.
1) The vikings have not had their bye week so they have played 20% more football than teams that have had their bye weeks.
2) Yet with this additional playing time they are only 13th in the league in offensive yardage and 18th defensive yardage (24th against the pass).
3) Opposing the vikings so far this year have been QB’s like rookie Matthew Stafford, Brady Quinn, Shawn Hill, Kyle Bollar and 2nd year Joe Flacco; who have combined for a 91 passer rating against the vikings( the vikings defense is 23rd in the NFL in passer rating given up).
4) The vikings are 27th in NFL incompletions surrendered to the QB’s listed in #3 above.
5) The vikings are 31st in plays over 20 yards surrendered to the QB’s is listed in #3.
6) The vikings seconday is 26th in completion % to those QB’s listed in #3 above.
7) In contrast to the list is in #3 above the viking pass defense still has to face Manning, Warner, Cutler twice, Rodgers, Hasselback and Palmer, plus the NFL’s passing yardage leader Roethlisberger, on Sunday.
The viking secondary obviously needs a great deal of help especially considering the contrast in the QB’s faced in #3 and the QB’s yet to be played in #7.
Hence the desperate search for any CB available.
The idiotic hatred spewed at an article informing you of the facts does not change the facts.
Just because a person cites facts, statistics, and superior football knowledge, some of you assume he is a Packer Fan.
The Vikings will sign a corner to take Asher Allen’s space on the inactive list and use him on the scout team. If another corner gets hurt, the guy they sign might become active. But hopefully Toine is healthy by then.
Vikings secondary sucked down the stretch against the Ravens but they were essentially down two corners. At 6-0 we don’t need to hit the panic button just yet. Plus just focusing on the worse part of the season would ignore all the solid play the defense has put in during other games.
6-0 bitches, hows 3rd place taste pack fans… again!
@ BeerCheeseSoup-
Yah,we have been through this but Bob and Jimmy are too much fun to ignore. Hope they never go away,I get great humor from their idiotic posts. I know you and footballrulz are sensible Pack fans by the way you post. Let’s face it though, this still is a ball site for some good old bashing. For the record Cheese,I have been a Vike fan for 34 years, hardly a bandwagon guy.Good and bad years part of being a fan,I’m just enjoying the fun run we have right now. And as you and I talked before, you know the cancer of the Pack right now.Correct, normal to root for the other team that plays inner division rivals. That’s why I say “Go Brownies!!” lol Wait, take that back. Beat the Browns. Get a lil 2 game run going. Then Favre comes in and brings you back to reality Nov. 1st

Brilliant, so what you’ve said is since the Vikings have played 20% more games than the teams in the NFL, they’ve had 20% more opportunities to give up passing yards. Thus, it is not surprising that the Vikings have, in fact, given up more yards (both passing and rushing) than teams which have played only 5 games.
Thanks for pointing that out…
Oh, and I got a stat for you: 6 wins, 0 losses — how’s that work for you???
Ultimately, the Vikings can rank last in every statistical category as long as they keep winning games as far I’m concerned…

I don’t know if that would take me out of reality to begin with. A lot of college teams could beat the Lions and Browns.
It’ll be nothing to brag about if we win, but if we somehow don’t, I’ll be leading the march down Lombardi Ave personally. You should probably plan a similar march in case you lose on the 1st and the soul-selling Favre move ends up to be all for nothing, not that I consider that likely at all.
Also, if you’ve been a fan for 34 years, and I mean a diehard serious fan, who was there for the losing years too, then you have my utmost respect. I am sure you know quite a few “fans” who’ve only been fans since Sept though. Those are the ones I hate. My bad for grouping you in with them.
Favre in purple isn’t Packers worst nightmare. More like a hilarious joke, espeically since most Vikes fans already have them in the SB. Couldn’t do it w/o a Packers QB huh? Covet, covet, covet! Lol, enjoy him for his one “awesome” year before your inevitable descent to the bottom.
How long do you think Favre can carry your horrible offense? Peterson won’t last the year. Gotta love his 2.2 ypc when he isn’t breaking his 1 or 2 big runs for the game.
Favre and AP, two most overrated players in the league atm.

Details are sketchy, but as of now he’s listed as ready to go for Sunday.
The question, however, shouldn’t be whether he CAN play, but whether we WANT him to. He’s clearly past his prime. Lang looked somewhat decent against the Lions, I say let him take part in the next upcoming practice game. If he still looks good, put him in against the Vikings, and if he sucks, at least we know what position to spend our upcoming top 10 pick on.
Please sign Jason David. It would be nice to see him getting toasted BY the Saints for a change.
It will be interesting to see the Saints vs. the Vikings in the playoffs, especially if the already average at best Vikings secondary is even more banged up and filled with guys off the street. I hope the game is in the Superdome instead of the soon to be torn down (or abandoned) Metrodome and all of the artificially piped in “crowd noise”.

Calistin? Who is this asshat?
That has to be the absolute dumbest quote ever.
The Packer QB one. Is that how you are justifying this in your mind? REALLY?!
I should really stop typing to you because your football knowledge is virtually nil.
The QB is1 of 53 men on the roster. You pack fans are so fond of saying that you win as a team, not because of 1 player. Of course that’s unless you lose to the Eagles on 4th and 26…that’s Favres fault. Or if you let the Giants drive down the fielss twice for FG attempts..thats favres fault too.
You defend AROD by saying it’s a team game when we say he can’t finish a game. but it was all Favre’s fault when you lost the big games and now it’s all his credit because the Vikes are kicking ass and taking names?
98% of Packer fans have to be the dumbest most inept hypocritical fans on the planet.
Favre walked on water for 16 in GB, when he played for the jets it was ok, now he’s a Vike he’s an asshole?
You are a pathetic fan of the game and you do not deserve to have a voice on this site.
I have seen nothing of merit come out in any of your posts. Just inane drivel.
Horrible offense? 2nd in the leauge in scoring!
Inevitable descent?….8-8,10-6 w/o him!
peterson not lasting the year is nonsense also, that is pure hope on your part….he’s missed 2 games in 3 years.
Favre 3rd rated passer, ALL DAY leading the NFL in rushing….yeah that’s over rated…..
Your post has to be 1 of the dumbest things I have had the sorry pleasure to read.
Calistin, congrats! You are the Asshat of the day!
We have some lovely parting gifts for you:
Hooked on phonics audiotape.
An I’m with stupid shirt with an arrow pointing up.
and last but not least, a years supply of excuses why the Packers suck this year.
Bob,
Until the byes are complete the rankings are based on yards per game. Not total yards like you imply. I am embarassed for you.
Super:
At least someone is. The guy posts inane garbage all day long with no shame whatsoever.
He’s incapable of being embarassed. You have to have the knowledge and understanding of why you should be first…..he doesn’t have it.
It’s a shame guys like him are aloowed to procreate and “taint” the gene pool.
He could be taking the “they’ve had one more game to get it right” angle which would make me even more embarrassed for him. Some teams open camp earlier then others. Some teams play 5 preseason games. Some teams travel overseas. I mean I havent read any of this guys other stuff but the one I did read I actually did get embarrased for him.
Nfljunkie, you idiots have been talking about the trainwreck for a long time now, guess what, you will probably have to wait for a very long ,long time! love to see you guys keep wishing for favre and the vikes to fall on there faces. NEWSFLASH: its not going to happen! Love to see you people aquirm after each viking W!
Bob, I would hope even an idiot like yourself would know how bullshit the rankings are. Pass rankings go right along with big leads so by having a low ranking just means the Vikings have been fortunate to have large enough leads where a team must pass to try and get back into the game. Given that and the Williams wall what team in there right mind would have a run first approach against the Vikings.
The Packers fans that troll the Viking pages are really pathetic but that’s what this site thrives on.
