Vikes check out cornerbacks

With Antoine Winfiled hobbled by a sprained foot and Karl Paymah clearly not the answer, the Vikings kicked the tires on three free agents Tuesday.

Per a league source, the Vikings worked out Mark Parson, Trae Williams, and DeAndre Wright.

Curiously, the Vikings opted not to take a second look at their 2006 third-round pick, Marcus McCauley, who worked out for and signed with the Buccaneers today. (Then again, it’s possible that the Vikings tried and McCauley said, “No thanks.”)

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings are expected to sign Wright, who was drafted earlier this year in the sixth round by the Giants.

On the surface, it’s a sign that the Vikings are looking for help in the event that starter Antoine Winfield misses significant time with a sprained foot, a diagnosis roughly as precise as “sprained knee.”

But it could be that the Vikings are looking for someone to replace Paymah, who by all rights should be sent packing based on his terrible performance against the Ravens on Sunday.
