Julian Edelman has a broken arm

Lost amid all of the roster machinations going on in New England on Tuesday was a Boston Herald report that wide receiver Julian Edelman has a broken arm.

Edelman left Sunday's game against the Titans after catching a pass from Brian Hoyer in the fourth quarter and did not return. He wasn't at Tuesday's walk through, according to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston, and Edelman wasn't in the locker room when reporters were speaking with players. Coach Bill Belichick did not address Edelman's condition directly, saying only that they have some players "banged up" on offense.

If Edelman is out it leaves the Pats, at least temporarily, without the man who made Joey Galloway expendable, and without a reliable option at third receiver.  Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Sam Aiken are the only wideouts on the active roster, which makes it likely that the Patriots will fill at least one of their two open roster spots with a receiver.

Two in-house options are third-round pick Brandon Tate, who is close to returning from the non-football injury list, and practice-squad receiver Terrence Nunn, who sat out football in 2008 before opening a lot of eyes during preseason.

Tate hasn't been on a football fileld since he blew out his knee in college. Can't see him playing in the short term, if at all.

Who? What? Isn't there some rumor/pipe dream you can post instead of "the patriots lost their 3rd receiver, who wouldn't make the team on most others." I had no idea which team this post was about until I got to the third paragraph.

    Must be a slow morning.

Nice job Josh...informative, supporting facts, roster breakdown...finally, a well written piece on this site...did hell just freeze over?

I don't know if Tate is ready, so I would guess that Nunn is going to get his active roster chance starting this week. The kid really did look good in preseason...of course that was just preseason. At the time the Pats cut him in preseason, I think a lot of Pats fans, and I am sure the Pats brass, were relieved that no one picked him up on waivers for their active roster, and the Pats were able to get him onto the practice squad.

I'm assuming they will bring in a player like Matt Jones, which will allow Welker to play the slot. If Edelman has a broken arm, he will be out for the season, depending on the severity of it.

Brandon Tate wont be ready to go, He hasnt practiced with the team at all, coming off a major injury like that I would imagine him to practice for the 21 days allowed, then sent to the I.R. It will be interesting to see what happens, I'm sure Belichick wont rush this situation as he has Tampa, then a bye week.

Does this mean that the Pats are going to release him 9 times this week?

Broken arm? No problem. I'm still starting him on my FF team. He should most likely score twice against the Bucs pathetic defense. Thanks Junior.

If Edelman has a broken arm, he will be out 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the severity of it.

marvin harrison should be a guy they look into. he would have to take a severe pay cut though. if harrison wants to show the colts that he has anything left, and wants to get any type of revenge, then this is what he should do.
matt jones is another solid option, cant believe he doesnt have a job yet.

Bag on the gang for wanting to dry hump the Hoodie all you want. But Edelman is a good player who could make most teams. And if you never heard of him that makes you a tool Erdie. Edelman is a guy that everyone on this site should know of. If you are here to get the scoop your not gonna get anywhere else (which hasnt been the case for quite some time) you should probably know who the guy who filled in for Welker is.

    And I hate the Pats.

Edelman has indeed shown some good stuff this season. Don't look for Harrison or Jones to be brought in. At this point in the season, it would take too long to bring someone up to speed with the system (no disrespect to Braylon Edwards, but this offense and this QB are not your typical system).

Look for Nunn to get a shot, he's in pretty much the same spot Edelman was in at training camp, so BB will probably give him a shot.

"the patriots lost their 3rd receiver, who wouldn't make the team on most others"

Nice to see the Pats haters still making totally clueless statements. Edelman is an excellent receiver who has done far better than most rookies in their first year. Maybe you should actually watch the player in a game before you make statements about how bad he is.

In case you haven't noticed, almost any time the Pats cut a player he is immediately picked up by another team because the Pats castoffs are better than what most of the other teams have as backups at the very least.

FYI, Julian Edelman was the third leading receiver for the Patriots by receptions & yards this season

    Receptions: 21
    Yards: 188
    Yards/Reception: 9.0
    Long: 29

He is also the leading Punt return by yards per return, second in total yards for kick off returners and he has rushed once this season for a five yard gain.

So, he has been a good player for the team and he will be missed if he is out too long.

Haha, that's a good one, Sir Soppy Vagine. He's ranked #1 in receptions among rookie wide receivers, dumbdumb.

Way to weigh in and fail.

    to continue piling on Erdie...

he was also a qb at kent st. making his rise to an nfl wr that much more of a compelling story.

Terrence Nunn and Brandon Tate (if he lives up to his billing) would be excellent options to replace Edelman. Tate should have been a round 1 pick and Nunn has looked good so far.

I really hope Julian Edelman returns though, because he's one of my favorite patriots. . .

The Patsies are another injury away from disaster. I like how all these Patsie fans talk up Tate and Nunn.....WHO????

Besides, who is Edelman?? Never heard of him.

There's nothing like watching Patsie fans set themselves up for a victory parade, only to have it come crashing down at their feet. Ah, the looks on their faces.....PRICELESS!

  18. footballnut says: October 21, 2009 1:27 PM

I don't see Tate being activated this soon, but you would have to imagine the prognosis looks good for him since Galloway has been jettisoned.

However, this could be Nunn's time to shine as he is healthy and played the pre season with the first unit at times.

I don't see Jones or Harrison coming here...

Looks like Faulk is back to returning punts until Edelman can make it back as I don't see a broken arm keeping him out for the season since it's only week 7.

Erdie must be knew to the NFL and the buzz surrounding it otherwise he would know why Edelman had a roster spot with NE.

Looks like the Patsy sycophants are once again overrating several of their players as usual.

    Pats record: 4-2

That says it all...they are no longer among the NFL's elite, no matter how much the media continues to suck their metaphorical dicks.
