Ochocinco draws a $10,000 fine for black chinstrap

During the preseason, Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco wore an orange chinstrap.  He received a $5,000 fine.

On Sunday, he wore a black chinstrap.  And he received a $10,000 fine.

Ochocinco disclosed the fine Wednesday on his Twitter page.

He seems to be confused about the increase.  The reason is simple — the first offense is $5,000, and the second offense is $10,000.

At some point, the NFL needs to consider fining the Bengals for supplying the non-conforming chinstrap, unless Ochocinco has been driving to the mall, buying his own equipment, and then smuggling it in.

Um does anyone else wonder why in the hell he is getting fined for this? Who gives a damn. Next fine Seahawk players for wearing those puke green gloves, or fine guys for wearing long sleeves on warm days or fine QB’s for wearing just one glove.

  2. Rex Grossman says: Oct 21, 2009 9:49 PM

All part of the NFL’s plan to get Chad Ochocinco to not wear a chinstrap at all, therefore shattering his jaw and not being able to run his mouth anymore. But he’ll always have Twitter. Child please. LOOPHOLE!

If everyone ignored him, what would he do?

  4. kazkal says: Oct 21, 2009 9:54 PM

Um Florio do some research? He picked up his own pink Chin Strap, mouth piece etc….He’s also had that orange chin strap for ever…How about his gold equipment you think cheap ass mike brown payed for that?

  5. Filbertkiwi71 says: Oct 21, 2009 10:00 PM

I would be more concerned if Johnson was wearing a brown jock strap. Those suckers do ride up a bit, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. Talk about Ocho Stinko.
Hey, Mike. Can you do a story on the Steve Phillips situation? Is there a legal reason why ESPN can’t go into more detail on it?

Dumb ass fine. As long as he’s wearing a chin strap and it’s any color that belongs to that color scheme it shouldn’t draw a fine. Is the league’s pockets hurtin’ so bad that they throw dumb ass fines at the players to make up for the blackouts?

  7. Humboldt420 says: Oct 21, 2009 10:03 PM

This is getting ridiculous quite frankly.
No, not Ocho’s antics, but the NFL’s uniform dress code.
Seriously? It’s not like he’s wearing a red chin strap or a blue chin strap. He was wearing Orange and Black. Which, last time I checked, were the Bengals’ colors right?
    Ticky tack.
I can’t believe Ocho’s fine is almost as much a Dante Wesley.
Wesley, if you remember, was the dude on the Panthers that blew up Clifton Smith (Bucaneers) on that punt return.
Wesley could have ended someone’s career with that hit, yet, Ocho, who wore a non-issue strap gets as much of a hit to the wallet?
    Bogus.

I wish the league would pay just as much attention to the calls on the field, during a game, like they do to the constant and useless issues such as this.
    NFL= No F%$#n’ Logic.
Get back to what matters most. THE GAME!

they should all be fined for wearing those stupid throwback uniforms……
When I grew up watching football, i learned teams by their colors….
Now what? kids just getting into football are just all confused who the hell knows what team you are watching……
teams pride themselves on their colors but todays nfl is all about touch touch touch girly crap….
NO ONE in the nfl should be wearing PINK for breast appreciation month, its a DUDES sport.
The ONLY thing pink on that field should be cheerleaders in pink tube tops.
Enough with the soccer mom antics in the NFL, its a dudes sport wear the colors of the team and be done with the high heels and prom dresses.
leave the dress up crap to barbie….

    $10k for a black chinstrap?
    … really?
Someone call the fashion police, I think Peyton Manning’s shoelaces had an unapproved shade of blue.

Chad Johnson is a huge dumb ass.
he must love to give away money.

  13. crodseth says: Oct 21, 2009 10:26 PM

Dude makes 10 grand a minute when he’s on the field, he could give a rat’s ass about the fine. The league looks like a bunch of douches when they do petty crap like this.
We’re not watching the game because we care about the rules, we’re watching the game because Ocho is a stud on the receiving end of the ball.

  14. gregoriorossini says: Oct 21, 2009 10:27 PM

The league reaches into it’s pocket, see’s that the money isn’t completely overflowing out of the pocet onto the street and makes an Michael Jackson spin to look directly at Ocho’s innocent face, just because he draws mouthy fine’s all the time.
this is complete crap, along with so many upper management parts of the NFL.
Put Parcells in charge, He’ll turn it around.

I like that some of you are taking issue with the ridiculousness of the fine.
On the surface, sure, it does seem ridiculous. However, what is ridiculous to me is that someone would do something to violate the UNIFORM rule, and pay a fine for it.
You also do, of course, realize that left unchecked, this would lead to jackasses like, oh, I don’t know, Chad Eightfive wearing rainbow socks a polka dot gloves, right?
Rules are rules. They also aren’t that hard to follow…..all you have to do is look at the other FIFTY-THREE PLAYERS ON YOUR TEAM AND MAKE SURE YOU MATCH THEM.

  20. DcNinerFan says: Oct 21, 2009 11:37 PM

Honestly, I’m not a fan of Chad JOHNSON (reminds me of the famous scene in the barber shop in Coming to America…), but this is just silly. NFL running out of money?

Favre fined $10,000 for illegal hit
Sanchez fined $5,000 – flew wildly at Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma’s knees
Chin strap/dress code violation on par with going after someones knees.

Or maybe the NFL can find something more constructive to do than fining people for the color of their chin straps!!!
If he is dressing safely, that is what they should care about.

  29. tdawg69 says: Oct 22, 2009 7:48 AM

10G for a black chin strap? A CHIN STRAP? iT’S JUST A DAMN CHIN STRAP. IS THAT WHAT WE TALKING ABOUT? A CHIN STRAP?
This makes Mangini’s $1701 bottle of water seem reasonable.

If there is something wrong with his uni why dont the refs tell him and have it fixed prior to the start of the game?
Shit Flo in Dallas cheats every down and he is treated better the Chad
I like Chad he is a big kid playing a kids game let the guy have some fun
With all the crap going on the world do we really care about the color of his chin strap

Because he’s a grown up? Why should the refs or anyone else have to inspect whether or not he is in compliance with the rules?
Again, EVERYONE ON THE TEAM WEARS THE SAME THING. If you’re too dumb to notice that you’re wearing the wrong socks, gloves, chinstrap, whatever, you deserve a fine.

  32. texasPHINSfan says: Oct 22, 2009 12:30 PM

a black chinstrap? $10k fine? really?
if the chinstrap was some outlandish color, i could understand. black is a neutral, non-descript color. who cares?
i think the NFL is just targeting him at this point.
far be it from me to defend chad, but i’m with him on this one. this fine is stupid.
