As speculation mounted last week that Rams running back Steven Jackson could be shipped to a team that has, you know, won a game in the past 367 days, the team felt compelled to tell Jackson that he remains a big part of their plans, and that he won’t be traded.
Per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the powers-that-be spoke with Jackson upon arriving Saturday in Jacksonville.
So here’s the real question. Did Jackson view the information as good news, or bad news?
Though on pace for more than 1,300 yards rushing, Jackson is languishing on one of the worst teams in recent memory.
Sure, they’re trying. But does that make the outcome any better?
The problem for Jackson is that, by the time the franchise turns it around, he will have used up most of the tread on his tires, and he’ll be at best a Jerome Bettis-style role player for the Rams — assuming he’s willing to accept the dramatically reduced salary that goes along with it.
Dear Steven Jackson,
I understand and I feel for you.
Regards,
Deuce McAllister
The Rams were in a really bad position when Spags took over. I’m sure they would like to give Jackson a fresh start elsewhere, but it’s a salary cap issue right now.
Meanwhile, the Rams really, really need to win a game.
So, if I’m following this correctly:
1: The Rams told Jackson he wouldn’t be traded.
and then:
2: Didn’t trade him.
Wow. This is some great reporting, Scoop Florio.
…Rams told Jackson he wouldn’t be traded…
to which he should respond… well… TRY HARDER.
“The problem for Jackson is that, by the time the franchise turns it around, he will have used up most of the tread on his tires”
I’m sure some players on the Dolphins and Falcons felt the same way a couple of seasons ago. Things change quicker than people might think. Just ask TJ Houshmanzadeh.

No shit Captain Obvious. I never really, really, really realized that.
Really.
Yes “Occam”..
And yet you COME to this site
You LOGIN to the site
You READ the Post
You take the time to POST to the article you think is so worthless.
Great use of your time, criticism breath.
If you don’t like it or have an issue with Florio and his site, please just stay away. I mean, what is your point exactly?
Where are all the stories about the non traded players?
Man..this site gets better every day. Just goes to show you what a sell out this site has become. No more “cutting edge” type stuff….just fluff like every other site “reports”
what a joke
Is this supposed to be a sympathy article for Jackson for having to play for a crappy team? The money isn’t any greener elsewhere, and it’s not like the rest of the team is keeping him from winning championships. He’s hasn’t been able to play a full season more than once during his entire career. If he doesn’t like it, then maybe he shouldn’t have cashed in and signed that 6-year contract extension last summer.
“Dont worry Steven, we wont be trading you”
-Spags
“WHAT?!?!?!? You mean I have to continue playing for this worthless franchise? Son of a bitch! I wasnt worried about getting traded, I was wishing for it!”
-S. Jackson
Since when do players “deserve” to play for a “contender”?
Do I really have ‘criticism breath.’
Oh man, I need an Altoid.
It’s bad enough the people on here ALWAYS make the most obvious jokes, but the delivery is just TERRIBLE.
“by the time the franchise turns it around” … Florio how quickly you forget 1999. The Rams were awful in ’98, SB Champs in ’99.
Wishful thinking, I know.
He is still taking it well. Saw an interview where he talked about previous Rams running back and the high standard he wants to live up to.
If nothing else he is working hard and keeping his mouth shut. He deserves credit for that.
