Todd Collins told to "be ready"

Jason Campbell has been given another chance to start by Redskins head coach Jim Zorn, but he’s going to be on a short leash.

In a meeting with his quarterbacks on Monday, Campbell was told that he’d likely start (the decision wasn’t made at the time), but Collins was told to “be ready.”

This sort of mixed message from Zorn to Campbell isn’t new.  Zorn reportedly told Campbell towards the end of the first half last week that he was going to bench him if his quarterback’s play didn’t improve.  It didn’t and Todd Collins came in at halftime.

Does Zorn think this motivation will make Campbell play better?

For all the undeserved blame Zorn is taking from his bosses, it’s fair to criticize his handling of Campbell since he arrived in Washington.  If nothing else, Zorn was brought in as a quarterback guru who could help Campbell develop.  It hasn’t happened.  (And if you think that expectation is unrealistic, look at Kyle Orton’s play this year.)

Perhaps Campbell will respond to the benching like Donovan McNabb did last season for the Eagles.

The difference is that McNabb didn’t have to face a blitzing Eagles defense while playing behind an offensive line full of backups.

Dude, are you kidding me? JC stinks…Zorn didn’t want him to begin with. The dude is a backup for life and he will find that out soon. The team has little talent. Offensively Santana is a solid number 2 WR and Cooley is a good TE, other than that nothing. Defensively they got London Fletcher, Hayneworth when he shows up, Orakpo and Landry. Their corners cant cover, their other WR’s catch like corners. Everyone in the league recognizes Campbell isn’t any good, thats why he won’t be signed anywhere to be a starter.

They could start Miley Cyrus at quarterback, and she wouldn’t do any worse than the clowns they’ve already got on the roster in Washington.
She could probably do no worse as head coach, GM, or Owner, for that matter!

Maybe Zorn knows Campbell stinks and he’s doing the best he can to make chicken salad out of chicken……………………feathers. Didn’t they spend the entire off-season trying to bring in someone new? If anything, Zorn seems stuck with him.

4 offensive systems in 5 years dating back to college (OR SOMETHING CLOSE TO THAT). Campbell needs a stable environment he is not a bad QB just on a bad team. I will, Matt Moore, and the rest of the Panthers will welcome him with open arms next year as a member of the CAROLINA PANTHERS. Let face it you can see it on his face that he does want to be anywhere near the district of WASHINGTON.

Todd Collins??? Come on, when my grandpa was a kid he watched Todd Collins play….
Seriously though, it doesn’t matter who plays, the Skins are HORRIBLE…they lost to my Lions….nuff said!

God I can’t wait for this Redskin ‘era’ to be over. If Campbell is playing for anything, it’s a quality contract elsewhere next year.
I actually like the guy, he’s handled a crap situation since his arrival in DC. Gibbs thought he’d be the second coming of Doug Williams, and quickly became undesirable when Gibbs decided to retire (i.e. give it up) again.
Campbell will give his best during in remaining days in DC, just think his days as a starting QB, whether in DC or elsewhere, or dwindling too.
About the only meaningful thing Zorn can say to anyone w/ interest in the Redskins is goodbye.

No he didn’t, Greg Rosenthal. Zorn didn’t tell Campbell that. You made that up. Campbell’s bad play behind a terrible offensive line forced Zorn’s desperate hand. Where do you get this sh#t? – another b.s source of yours? Stop adding details that aren’t true! And by the way, Zorn has handled his quarterback situation just fine considering the front office he works for. It wasn’t Zorn who wanted to go after Sanchez and Cutler in the offseason. It was Snydrato that did that. Are you really a paid writer? Shut your hole.

C’mon … I just checked the NFL Player Manual. On Page 42 it has the job description for Backup Quarterbacks, and bullet point 2.) says:
“Be ready (you are just one snap away from playing”). In the updated version for 2009 it even has a reference to “Cassel, Matt” (in “Earn 30 times your salary in ten easy steps”).
useless post of the day? Telling your backup dudes to “be ready, be prepared”?

the porn stached campbell just flat out sucks. he isnt good. i repeat- he is not good. i would bench his sorry ass too. they went after every available qb for a reason. kyle orton proved he could win, and he can throw the short passes and get the ball out. jason campbell proved he could grow a porn stache.

No, McNabb had to play the blitzing (?) Raiders defense with a line full of backups.

Hey the Jim Zorn era will end Monday night around midnight, why not give him a shot.

Look people, Florio picked this team to win the Superbowl.
There’s still time for the Redskins. It’s not like a pro like Florio would just throw his SB pick away on what is arguably one of the worst teams ever, going into the 2009 season. Florio knows something. He knows something hard.
This is the guy that gives readers of his NFL.com fantasy Sit’em Start’em column AMAZING advice every week. So what if Florio has been waaaaaaaaay off on all his stars of the week and even his who to sit/start?
This guy knows something people. He’s waiting to break the big news so we can all kick ass during the second half of the year. Just like the Skins.
    Bring it on Florio!! WOOOOOOOOO!!
    Oh. And go Eagles.

shouldn’t collins always “be ready”, as a backup QB?

  18. Late Night Roach says: Oct 21, 2009 6:10 PM

Zorn will be told who will start.
It won’t matter though, the entire offense is playing lousy.

  19. braindead says: Oct 21, 2009 7:14 PM

Hey Skins fan, don’t feel so bad. You could have Derek Anderson and his seventeen yard passing games, or Brady Quinn, who basically just runs for his life back there. Your team will recover before mine does.
    A numb Browns fan

Am I the only one still wondering why they aren’t giving Colt Brennan a shot?
