Carolina Panthers defensive back Dante Wesley is suspended this week for a hit on Tampa Bay Buccaneers return man Clifton Smith that has been widely described as a cheap shot.
Smith, however, said on Thursday that there are no hard feelings after Wesley reached out and said he’s sorry.
“He called me and apologized, which I appreciate,” Smith said, per PewterReport.com. “He said he was just trying to make a play.”
Wesley was ejected after he drilled Smith while the ball was in the air, and Smith suffered a concussion on the play. But Smith said he has not had any post-concussion symptoms and expects to play on Sunday against the Patriots in London.
Wesley is on the Panthers’ reserve-suspended list for the week, meaning he can’t practice or be with the team until after the Panthers’ game against the Bills on Sunday.
