Matt Roth's return doesn't last long

During training camp, we spent an inordinate amount of time covering the mysterious case of Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth, who started 14 games last season.

There were varying explanations of his Roth’s absence, an “annoyed” coach, and whispers about an “icy disconnection” between Roth and the rest of the organization.  The conjecture came as a surprise because Roth had earned a great reputation in his time with the team.

In the end, Roth was placed on the physically unable to perform list for the first six weeks of the season, because of a groin injury.  Nearly eight long weeks after Roth surprisingly didn’t join the team for practices, the contract year player finally suited up Wednesday and practiced.

Then he missed practice Thursday.

Roth’s groin is healed, but now he’s got an ankle problem.  The Dolphins have 21 days to decide whether to put Roth on the active roster, so he can’t stay injured for long this time.

Roth stressed the injury wasn’t serious and hopes to return to action this week.  Asked about it further, Roth jokingly referred to the team policy’s against discussing injuries.

“Like Fight Club.  Can’t talk about Fight Club,” Roth said.

I want an investigation into my theory that the pigeon at the Raider/Eagles game (in which The Eag’s were pummeled by Joakland) that the pigeon was indeed Jimmy Hoffa reincarnated.

What policy? When an injury happens, Sparano talks about it.

Look for Goodell to issue a fine for Roth NOT talking to the media about his inability to talk about his injury per team’s rules. Huh ?

    Tim,
JT isn’t doing just fine and Roth may be depth for now, but there isn’t a lot of depth there otherwise. JT is struggling some and he is getting small, frequent tweaks in the games. He needs to be asituational player and depth to Roth who is a big-time run-stopper. Roth and Wake, the run stopper and the pash rushing machine could be a great duo in a couple of years. This post seems to be making a big ado about nothing.

We need Roth back… Our run defense ranked #3 in the league is a little decieving because our pass defense is so bad (and he dominate time of posession) teams seem to abandon the run against us early. Roth is a beast in the run game. His presence will enable us to concentrate more on defending the pass, and rushing the QB.
