Mort: Bengals wanted Martellus Bennett

ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reports that the Cincinnati Bengals are the team who was interested in swinging a trade with the Dallas Cowboys and that, as we had been hearing, the target was tight end Martellus Bennett.

It makes sense -- the Bengals have been struggling at the tight end position, due to a rash of injuries that began during training camp, when Reggie Kelly torn an Achilles’ tendon and Ben Utecht suffered a serious concussion.

Still, the Cowboys said no. Despite the presence of Jason Witten, Bennett gets plenty of playing time when the Cowboys use two tight ends.
