As the Oakland Raiders prepare to play one New York team only two weeks after playing the other one, defensive lineman Richard Seymour had a parting shot for the Giants team that drubbed the Raiders, 44-7.
Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce said after the game that playing Oakland “felt like a scrimmage.”
“They got what they deserved this week,” Seymour said Wednesday, according to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News. “I’m not sure how many points the Saints scored on them, but if I’m not
mistaken, it was about half a 100 points. He’s got enough to chew on
with that.”
But as we pointed out in our Morning Aftermath entry regarding the Giants’ 48-27 loss to the Saints, Pierce’s words woke up the Raiders, who then went on to beat the Giants’ rivals in the NFC East.
And now that the Raiders are awake, the sky’s the limit. On Tuesday, Seymour said that the 2-4 Raiders will make it to the playoffs.
Seems like RS is enjoying his freedom to mouth off in Oakland. The more he talks the bigger an ass he makes of himself. I am beginning to appreciate the Pats gag rule.
And by playoffs, he means the playoffs for the top pick and rights to draft Jimmy Clausen.
The skies the limit? Sounds like Florio and Seymour are having a “Once in a blue moon” moment. Russel will show his skills this week with a QB rating around 10.
Seymour could be using the media to keep the fire burning under the Raiders team. It seemed to work last week.
As a lifelong Raiders fan I had no problem with Pierce’s comments. He really wasn’t trying to disrespect the Raiders, he was just calling it exactly like it was. The Raiders were lousy against the Giants.
First 4 Raiders posessions in that game: 3 3&outs, 1 turnover.
First 4 Giants posessions: 4 TDs
It could’ve been 100-7 if the Giants were inclined to do that with the lack of heart the Raiders showed in that game.
But then the turnaround in the Eagles game showed that this Raiders team is capable of much better. I think Pierce’s comments and the shear embarrassment of the Giants game rout got these players’ attention.
Hopefully they don’t go back on auto-pilot.
So since Seymour’s team got their asses handed to them, he can only take comfort in seeing another team beat that team. Good job Seymour, we here in New York love seeing teams you’re on get pounded by the Giants. Thanks for the rings.
oh please, the Eagles players saw the Raiders on their schedule and got home at 4:00 am on game day, rolled out of bed 30 minutes before game time still hung over and still competed.
Seems like RS is enjoying his freedom to mouth off in Oakland….
That does seem to be true. Pierce’s comments about the Giants “scrimmage” against the Raiders might not have been “classy”, but they were true. I think Seymour would have better luck getting a big contract in the off-season if he just shows up every week and plays well consistently, and does not run his mouth. The last few seasons he has still had games where he seems unblockable, but then he disappears for a game or two. I am sure someone will pay him, but he does not have the every week consistency he had early in his career.
“and still competed.”
Wow, so you’re saying that they played a competitive game against one of the worst teams in the NFL.
And lost.
Not that I care about Seymour or the Raiders (they’re still in the NFL??), but if you heard the actual comments the radio host asks Seymour if they’re going to make the playoffs and he answers yes… what is he supposed to say, no? I am sure that would’ve gone over even better
looks like seymour drank too much of that koolaid in new england. a team led by jemarcus russel will not be going to the playoffs…seymour is an angry man who went from a NFL powerhouse to an NFL outhouse……
“On Tuesday, Seymour said that the 2-4 Raiders will make it to the playoffs.”
======================================
Wow, RS isn’t even in Cali for 3 months and he’s already completely stoned out of his head on “medical marijuana”. I heard Florio say that if the Raiders make the playoffs, he’ll shave his helmet…I mean hair.
I wish some of you idiots would go and listen to the interview clip of Seymore before committing words to be read. It just makes you look dumb.
As a lifelong Oakland fan, I am under no delusions that this is the second coming of the 1980 Raiders. We can win some games but we have a very long way to go. Let’s see where we are at the bye….
Playoffs? Did you say Playoffs? Dont talk about playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs? – Jim Mora
He is delusional. This is the NFL and there is always, ALWAYS a major upset year after year.
Pierce’s comments were made in a fairly long interview… and were not all that bad when taken in context. I’m always a little suspect when a professional athlete getting paid millions to play a kids game somehow needs “motivation”. I can see why the Pats gave him the door. They’re a team that comes to play every week.
looks like seymour drank too much of that koolaid in new england…
I don’t understand that comment. Sounding off in the media about other teams or players is somewhat unusual among the Patriots under Belichick; unless they are praising upcoming opponents. There have been a few pre-game and post-game situations where unflattering media words were exchanged (Freddie Mitchell and Anthony Smith come to mind), but that tends to be something the Patriots under Belichick avoid.
“And now that the Raiders are awake, the sky’s the limit. ”
Right up until they have to play the next game. They suck and cant do anything about it.
Big Sey needs to shut up and due his time in Oakland like a man…like a man getting paid big bucks.
2 things:
a) the Raiders will not make the playoffs. Well, unless they bring Garcia back then maybe.
b) Vox: I have absolutely ZERO idea what the hell “chief” is talking about. That makes no sense at all.
Who made this clown head spokeman for anything or anybody ? Wasn’t he the one that said The Raiders will be in the playoffs this yr ? And we’re giving someone that’s obviously DELUSIONAL some press ?
Seymour, quite understandably, abhors the Giants.
It was the Big Blue Wrecking Crew that took a giant dump on his plans to go down as the most storied team in history. Imagine – 4 Super Bowl Titles in a 7 year span, capped off with a perfect season. Poof – the G-men STOMPED THEM OUT.
This led to a turn of events where Brady gets injured 2 seconds into the next season —> and no soup for you to the ’08 Pats.
This further led to Seymour getting crapped out to an abysmal Monty Python-esque skit franchise.
Then the Giants flat out abuse Seymour and Company.
Yeah, Seymour resents how the Giants have treated him. Awwwww.
I don’t really see the Raiders making the playoffs. But if they are ever gonna get hot, now is the time to do it. The Eagles game started a stretch of 6 straight weeks where they don’t have to travel out of California. Phi, Jets, @Sd, bye, KC, Cin. If we weren’t talking about Oak, or maybe Det, the idea of a 5 game win streak wouldn’t seem so far-fetched. 6-4 heading into a meaningful Thanksgiving day game against the Cowboys would be a dream at this point. But they will probably lay an egg against a sliding Jets team and return The Nation to the state of hopelessness we felt going in to last weeks game.
Seymour was a whiner in NE also. He just didn’t get the free media reign he does now.
Now, that said, Peirce is a jerk as well. And Sey’s bad blood with him and schadenfreude over the NYG loss to NO probably goes back to Pierce’s talk around SB 42.
I can’t wait to see the Raiders throttle the Cowboys in that atrocity of an arena in Dallas.
Unless Seymour starts taking snaps from under center they won’t finish with a winning record.
“And now that the Raiders are awake, the sky’s the limit. ”
uh…christ. Everyone seems to be attributing this comment to Seymour.
That’s FLORIO’S WORDS!!!
I feel disgusted that I check this site for reliable NFL news & this is what you come up with.
Good lord Mike.
Talking about throwing in (or stomping on?) the towel.

or when Brady was laughing before the SB at the giants about only being held to 17 pts..it was actually 14…or when brady refused to shake eli’s hand before the superbowl, or how bill refuses to acknowledge any other coach, or teddy and Junior hugging with 5 mins to go because Junior finally got his SB!! or rodney harrison talking garbage all day and night. But youre right, all they do is PRAISE opponents. zzzzzz
Seymour is right we got our asses handed to us by the Saints
But for him to say anything about that game is a joke what does he have to say about the ass kicking we gave him and his raiders
And Rick great job at the SB we enjoyed the game and the party
as I recall he was part of that 18-1 giant loss
Where was that pride and fire when he played against NY? Pierce never would have been able to say anything if Seymour and the rest of the team didn’t just flat out quit when they played the Giants. BTW Rich, your stat line for the game against the Giants – 1 tackle, 0 sacks, 0 forced fumbles. Stat line against the Eagles – 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble. Is the Giants O line that much better or did Seymour collect a check for a game where he didn’t show up?
The Raiders aren’t winning the West. That leaves two wild card spots. That will take 10-11 wins. The Patriots didn’t get in with 11 wins last year. So, even if they go 8-4 and wind up at 10-6, they will likely miss the playoffs. If Seymour thinks any team with Russell at QB is going 8-4 any time soon, he’s on some good drugs.
Seymour definitely has a sour taste in his mouth when it comes to the Giants. Even HE knows that game was a scrimmage. Tell me he wouldn’t be runnin his mouth if he were with the Pats during that 59-0 rout of the Titans. This is the same guy who was talking smack during the Giants last offensive drive of SB42…. inviting all the Giants players back to the NE Super Bowl party after the game. How’d that work out for ya Sey-bitch!
The raiders can give trouble to any team that decides to throw the ball too much on them. They could actually WIN most of those games if they had an offense above high school level.
That being said, everyone knows (except the Eagles and McNabb) that to blow out the Raiders you simply have to run the ball on them.
I think my dead grandmother averaged 10.3 yards per carry on them…
Never like a guy who runs his mouth and Seymour hasn’t shut up since he ran it against the Giants in that Super Bowl loss.
I don’t care how good he is, whenever a player starts talking, as a fan you have to say, “Uh oh.”
It rarely ends well for guys who talk. Shut up. Let your play speak for you.
I heard the interview where Seymour talked about the Raiders making the playoffs and it is really taken out of context. He was speaking with a media member from another town and basically the guy was making fun of the Raiders and goaded Seymour into saying something good about the Raiders. The guy asked him point blank, are the Raiders going to make the playoffs?
What do you expect Seymour to say? No we suck…. He is a professional athlete and a competitor. He is going to say what any self respecting professional athlete is supposed to say until their team is mathematically eliminated (note to Donovan McNabb, that means that at some point in the season your team would have NO chance to make the playoffs – a game can end in a tie and you only get 3 timeouts per half), that is “yes, we are going to the playoffs”.
When will the Giants fans move on from SB 42??? I am so tired of seeing comments about “1 giant loss”, or “stomping the Pats out”… Please. It was a great game, but the Giants didnt “stomp” anyone. Had Asante Samual held on to the ball, instead of dropping 2 interceptions on the final drive, you wouldnt even be talking…. If the refs had blown the whistle when Eli was in the grasp, you wouldnt be talking….
You all talk trash about the game, and then you ridicule Pats players for talking trash….how does that make sense? Is that one of those” do as I say, not as I do” moments…..
All players talk trash on the field, but the only players that get “called out” about it are the Pats players that lost in SB 42.
NY needed EVERYTHING to go in their favor in order to win that game, and it did, and they won. Congrats on a great game, and a great win, but you are starting to sound like the Pissburgh fans. Atleast they have 6 rings, without Scott Norwood and Asante Samual, you only have 1 ring….
@ Bill Cowhers Chin
Coulda, woulda, shouda much? I only bring up SB42 cause it was a reference point for a time when Seymour was the one mouthing off.
or when Brady was laughing before the SB at the giants about only being held to 17 pts..it was actually 14…
It is true, the Pats have been known to respond to the trash talk of opponents. In the examples I cited with Mitchell and Smith that was the case, and the Brady example you cite he was responding to Plax’s comments. Most of the time the Pats got the last laugh, in the case of the Super Bowl the Giants got the laugh.
So, since Seymour is responding to trash talk that he did not start, maybe that is something he brought over from the Pats. I stand corrected…
Playoffs? Probably not, but the Raiders WILL beat the Jets this week.
The raiders SINGLE score was due to the giants fumbling the ball around the 20 off a raiders 3 and out.
The giants stripped the ball from the the raiders running back and returned it for a TOUCHDOWN, however the refs blew the call and gave the ball back to the raiders…..
so the raiders essentially didnt score anything against the giants.
and the eagles suck they always turn to stupid mode
The Raiders will not make the playoffs as long as Russell continues to thrust his head up his own ass. Throughout the game against the Eagles, whenever Russell did a stupid thing, and Cable let him know about it, the TV caught Russell throwing one of those disrespectful smirks towards Cable or his teamates. Russell needs to grow up and until he does the Raiders aren’t going anywhere.
I hope so they will make to the playoffs atleast this week when they need to beat the J.E.T.S. This would be one less team i need to worry about as a Jags fan. I know its a long shot for the Jags to make it to the playoff but i do keep hoping for the other contending team to loose.
Raiders – Please keep your spirit up.
@dalefess:
What was he supposed to say? ‘No, I don’t see us making it anywhere this year. We suck.’? You’re an idiot.
So, Seymour thinks the Raider’s will make the playoffs huh? Apparently Ricky Williams has been sharing his bong with Seymour.
Giants did not come to play in NO last Sunday. If they come out flat vs Arizona, they will not deserve the support of long-time fans like me. They were apparently the only ones who did not know that the game vs Saints would define them as a very good team or just one with an easy early schedule. Do they recognize that they proved the latter thesis?
Chin: Samuel had almost no chance to catch that ball on the sidelines in SB. Look at the tape again. Don’t try to promote the myth that that ball should have been intercepted.
The only reason the Giants lost to the saints was because for some stupid reason they decided to play COVER instead of attack…..
Go check out the Jets vs Saints this year, if sanchez didnt turn on his rookie moment the saints lose.
The saints offense was shut down by the jets attack.
The saints didnt beat the jets sanchez beat the jets.
Next time the Giants play the saints they will be in attack mode and things will be much different, 28-10
the raiders are a crap team owned by a senile fool.
Raiders are 1 game out in the wild card standings with tough but winnable games against the Jets and San Diego up next before a bye week and then hosting KC. 5-4 and in position for a wild card spot are not out of the question. It’ll be difficult, but if the passing game turns it on the Raiders can definitely do it.
Plus you’ll be surprised at how much better JaMarcus is going to be, starting this week, with his No. 1 WR back.
first of all, seymour will come crashing back down to earth when they lose their next game.
second, what antonio pierce said about playing the raiders had nothing to do with how the giants played the saints. if that helps seymour sleep at night, so be it.
There are six NFL teams with 1 or 0 wins. There are 11 with 2 or fewer wins. The playoffs are long shot, but that is no reason to abandon the goal. The Pats were the first team with 11 wins not to make the playoffs since the 90′s. Two teams at least have made the playoffs at 9-7 this decade.
JaMarcus has looked horrible, his work ethic questionable, and not worth such a high pick. At the same time he was QB for 2 1/12 seasons in arguably the toughest conference in college football, the SEC.
He compiled respectable passing numbers there, it is too soon to throw in the towel:
62% 8.3 y/a 52 td 21 int
td% 6.5 int% 2.6% rating 135 +
Whats the problem, the Giants were nailed to the wall by the Saints. I can see that happining to a team full of rookies like the Raiders but to happen to a team that people were calling a Super Bowl team, not a good sign.
The Saints let the NFL know that you want to play with them you need to really be a good team and that is not the Giants.

The only reason the Giants lost to the Saints is because the Saints are a better team. The Giants have been playing chumps all year until they hit New Orleans.
That was a beat down from a legit top-tier team.
Make sure when you bump into Coughlin this week that you tell him how if his boys just simply played “attack” they would have kicked the Saints ass’s. I’m sure he’ll take your expert advice and it will never happen again.

Hey, Vox.
I googled “Vox Veritas” and clicked on the first link that came up, and saw your Myspace page.
Dude, you’re a 32 year old virgin who plays Magic. The Eagles lost a bad game, but you’ve lost at life. You have NO room to talk trash.
