Oft-injured Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders will take the field for the first time this season on Sunday in St. Louis.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Friday morning that Sanders, the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is ready to go.
"He's going to play,'' Caldwell said, per Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star. "He's feeling good. If he can go, he's starting.''
Caldwell said he's "not really sure yet,'' how much Sanders will play because he wants to see how his surgically repaired knee is holding up. But for at least the start of the game, Sanders will be on the field against the Rams.
When he's healthy, Sanders is among the best defensive players in the league. But he's often not healthy: He's played only 45 regular-season games since the Colts drafted him in 2004.
Bob Sanders will start Sunday

A better quarterback than Interceptus Rex?
Granted he's not going to play much because we are going to dismantle the Rams, him getting back on the field means 2 things....1) we are going to be better and 2) he IS our defense. We will not lose with the rate we are going already, plus we are getting Kelvin Hayden and Anthony Gonzalez back....so long everybody else in the NFL....Colts will be champions for 09-10!!!
Hope you're saving money Bob my friend, because the next time you get hurt, you're done.
You're making full time money for playing part time (about half of the Colts games since you became a part of the team)
Hopefully, the time you've been off has saved some wear and tear on your bod, and you will be able to finish a season for once.
You were once one of my favorite players (despite your wearing earings in both ears), but I'm beginning to wonder if you're worth the hassle of having to find someone to fill in for you............
Rex Grossman- He's a dude who's been writing for this site for a year or two.
No way Sanders starts. He'll get hurt getting off the plane or in pre-game warmups.
Over rated
Does Sanders get the same deal as Clemons when he was a Yankee? You know, no road trips, spends his days off at home with the family, all the free steroids and HGH he wants - that sort of thing?
If I were the colts I don't think I'd use up one of the 5 games bob sanders is going to play this season against the rams.
Sanders is overrated. Always the last guy in when the tackle has already been made.
Awesome to see the classiest PFT writer around these parts again.
Welcome back, MDS!
Good point unamed. Sanders will probably be active for the next 3 games then back on the "DOUBTFUL" injury list until the playoffs. Overrated, injury prone, and one-dimensional. Definitely not the best adjectives.
We shall see
Not overrated, injury prone, and not one-dimensional.
I'm guessing Sanders gets injured this game and will be out for the rest of the year.
