Browns overcome the flu bug

Though the Cleveland Browns of recent years have had more than their fair share of struggles with staph, the Browns have managed to kick the butt of the flu bug in preparation for Sunday’s home game against the Packers.

As Gregg Rosenthal recently noted, only one player (defensive end Corey Williams) still had the flu as of Friday afternoon.  But every other player who had been afflicted by the bug practiced on Friday, and the only guy who shows up on the final injury report as lower than probable is Williams.

As to the non-flu injuries, kicker Phil Dawson (right calf) and tight end Steve Heiden (knee)
are doubtful.  Defensive end Kenyon Coleman (groin), receiver Joshua Cribbs
(knee), guard Rex Hadnot (knee), tight end Robert Royal (illness, hamstring,
finger), defensive end Corey Williams (illness), and cornerback Eric Wright (shoulder) are questionable.

The players listed as probable consist of quarterback Derek Anderson (ankle), linebacker Eric Barton
(shoulder), linebacker David Bowens (knee), center Alex Mack (illness), cornerback Anthony
Madison (illness), cornerback Brandon McDonald (shoulder), safety Brodney Pool
(illness), defensive tackle Shaun Rogers (illness, foot), defensive end Robaire Smith (calf), receiver
Chansi Stuckey (illness), linebacker Jason Trusnik (illness), running back Lawrence
Vickers (illness), linebacker Kamerion Wimbley (illness), guard Floyd Womack
(ankle), and punter Dave Zastudil (right knee).

For the Packers, running back Korey Hall (calf), receiver Jordy Nelson (knee), tackle Mark Tauscher (knee), running back DeShawn Wynn (knee), and defensive end Jarius Wynn (hamstring)
are out.  Left tackle Chad Clifton (ankle) and center Jason Spitz (back)
are doubtful.

Linebacker Brandon Chillar (neck)
is questionable, and receiver Greg Jennings (hip), running back Quinn Johnson (ankle), defensive end B.J. Raji (ankle), and quarterback Aaron Rodgers (foot) are probable.

Missing from the injury report is newly-returned running back Ahman Green.  But he hasn’t played in a game yet.  So just give him time.

The swine flu is nasty stuff. Even if they’re not flat on their backs in bed with the worst symptoms, it totally saps your strength and it takes time to recover. I can’t imagine how someone who had the flu this week could possibly play competitive football. We’ve got it in our house so we’ve seen it first hand.

Now they just need to kick that “can’t seem to play a decent quarter of football” bug

See, that’s why I like Mangini. Everyone got on him for the Favre injury report thing, so now he just puts anyone who’s sore as probable. I think he’s kinda funny actually.

It’s just a shame that Derrick Anderson wasn’t the only one with the flu….besides the fact that it would have saved you time to write this Florio, everybody in cleveland would have felt safer, because everybody knows he couldn’t pass that stuff on to anybody else.

Hard to believe the recievers can catch anything.
