Cromartie expected to start, but Chargers do roster shuffle

Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie avoided a major injury when he got hurt in practice this week, and will start Sunday against the Chiefs.

But there is some concern that Cromartie won’t last long, and recently demoted Antoine Cason will wind up taking many of his snaps.

The Chargers also signed Simeon Castille off its practice squad Sunday and cut cornerback Daymeion Hughes, who was signed earlier this week.  The team wanted a cornerback familiar with its system.

Sunday is a dangerous game for Norv Turner’s 2-3 Chargers team.  San Diego is coming off a Monday night loss to Denver in a game that felt like a “must-win” if the Chargers wanted to keep hope for a AFC West crown.

The Chargers head to Kansas City, the place where everything changed in the AFC West last season.  If Dwayne Bowe had held on to an onside kick in Week Fifteen there last year, San Diego would have gone 7-9 and we’d probably look at this Chargers team as average, not just underachieving.  (We’d also still be watching Mike Shanahan and Jay Cutler in Denver.)

Kansas City has played hard the last two weeks; taking Dallas to overtime and winning in Washington.  Our PFT pick for the game likes Bowe and the Chiefs to finish the job this time.
