Michael Vick: Prison teaches patience

Michael Vick somewhat naively believed while he was in prison that he would have a job as a starting NFL quarterback available to him when he got out. Now that he’s with the Eagles and firmly behind Donovan McNabb on the depth chart, he says he’s glad he learned to be patient while he was behind bars.

Prison in itself makes you patient,” Vick tells Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “That’s something I learned. Everything just isn’t given to you whenever you want it. You’ve just got to wait for your opportunities, just like I had to wait to be released from prison. I learned a lot of
patience being away.”

Vick’s hope of being an NFL starting quarterback after a lengthy prison stay and league-imposed suspension was never realistic, but he was fortunate that while he was away, the wildcat offense sprung up across the NFL. Because of the wildcat, Vick has seen the field much more than he otherwise would have.

“We signed him as a backup quarterback,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “We have
gotten probably a little bit more out of him than I thought we would have out of our other backup quarterbacks.”

Unfortunately for the Eagles, Vick hasn’t been particularly effective in the wildcat: He’s been involved in 18 plays run out of the wildcat formation and the Eagles have managed a grand total of 34 yards.

Still, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg insists, “His presence is a threat.” And Vick says he learned in prison that he needs to be ready for whatever comes up, whether it’s playing in the wildcat, being a backup quarterback, or — maybe in the future — lining up under center every play as a starter again.

“The Michael Vick from two years ago was used to being a starter in this league and used to being in the limelight, being the guy who takes all the snaps,” Vick said. “It’s different, but I can adjust. I can adapt to any situation, and this was one of them.”

Too bad he didn’t learn a work ethic. Still the lazy, worthless QB who relied on speed before, speed is gone and now he is just a lazy, worthless QB.

A threat to the Eagurls is about all he is.

Speaking about Vick on July 28, Eagles coach Andy Reid had these thoughts on Vick: “Number one, I think he’s a good kid. Right now we have a good situation at quarterback so that’s not the direction I’m looking.”
    Changing tune already Andy…..

The motherless piece of shit doesn’t deserve to be playing in the NFL, and has proven to be worthless.
It’s more of a charity case than it is an investment.
If one of his dogs produced his level of production, they would be beaten, hung, drowned, or tortured one of many other various ways. Maybe it’s time for someone to beat, hang, drown, or torture Ookie.
Great call Goodell. Great call Loria… Great Call Fat Andy…

Very pithy from the dog killer…what does torturing and killing dogs teach us, Mr. Vick? What a joke…

  9. antneejay2 says: Oct 24, 2009 12:58 PM

Did I read that correctly? Did Reid say he’s gotten more out of Vick than he would have out of his other back ups? Two straight 300 yard games from Kolb, approximately zero from Vick. He must have been using vox math. Oh, now it makes sense. For a minute there I was starting to think Andy was full of shit.

  11. hamburglar says: Oct 24, 2009 1:13 PM

We should trade him to the Cowboys. He would be the second best QB on their roster. Kitna > Vick > Romo

  13. JJCheesehead says: Oct 24, 2009 1:25 PM

there is no doubt in my mind he gets a shot at starting again in the NFL. lets think about all the teams that he would possibly be an upgrade over their current QB……..Raiders, Browns, Dolphins?, Panthers, 49ers?, Vikings after the Favre year/s

Jersey Sales and breaking the rythm of the offense.
I guess on the Field Kevin Kolb outperformed him …

I hope someday Vick comes out with a book about his time in prison. What happened? did he have cell mate? did he have his prison girlfriend doing his laundry for him? what did he do all day? was he in any fights? did he have to join a gang? Did Marcus sneak some reefer inside for him? Did he make toilet moonshine? There are so many questions and i really hope we can get some real answers to these important questions

    Prison teaches laziness.
Laying around on a taxpayer purchased bed,
    in taxpayer purchased clothes,
    with taxpayer purchased utilities,
    enjoying taxpayer purchased entertainment,
    in taxpayer purchased housing,
    eating taxpayer purchased food,
    with taxpayer paid caregivers,
and taxpayer paid health and dental care.
That is why the lazy element of society has music and art extolling the thug lifestyle and to aspire toward prison living.

When people have put “Vick” in their screennames, you know they’ve elevated the hate to completely new levels.
It’s okay, though, because I’m sure that they log into PFT after volunteering at animal shelters and rescue operations at the SPCA, right?
No? They’re just fat, snarky asshats posting vitrolic spew from their mother’s basements because they like some rival team of the Eagles and have no REAL love for or desire to help animals?
    Pathetic.

You think so? Try it sometime. I’ve worked in prisons for over 20 years and can tell you there are some that will do anything to avoid work. All are required to have a job, unless medically unfit.

  25. penguininbondage says: Oct 24, 2009 6:24 PM

As much as the signing disgusted me I’m quite pleased how it’s working out.
He looks slow, and like crap on every play they’ve used him on.
They are showing other teams that he’s worthless as a QB.
No way in hell he is in the roster with the Eagles next year for 5.3 mil.

  26. EskinSux says: Oct 24, 2009 8:05 PM

Here’s a thought…..He was useless as a QB when he had a jackass owner wheeling him around in a wheelchair, paying him 100 million, and he’s useless as a wild cat, pussy cat, or cat nip QB, whatever the hell you wanna call it… for Reid to say…..”We have gotten probably a little bit more out of him than I thought we would have out of our other backup quarterbacks.”….Is an absolute joke…..This just smacks of the Lurie/Banner/ Reid BS….Hello, you freakin 3 stooges…..You have accomplished NOTHING….Seriously, I can’t take this “we invented football” line of crap anymore……You lost to the Goddamn Raiders…..you mismanaged the clock, didn’t game plan, and had a over 10 year vet, whom you gave over 100 million, who didn’t know the timeout situtation before halftime……ENOUGH…..Reid has to GO……NOW

  27. Vick's failed drug test says: Oct 24, 2009 10:47 PM

Or they could be a dumb & ignorant son of a bitch like Ocelot138, who support a worthless piece of shit and don’t have a clue about who posts here or why they post here.

  28. Ocelot138 says: Oct 25, 2009 1:56 AM

So you volunteer at animal shelters, Vick’s failed drug test?
I mean, when someone condemns a war, if it’s a soldier who’s seen fighting and knows what it looks like, that’s powerful. When it’s a peace activist who’s devoted his life to stopping conflict, that isn’t as impressive, but it’s also decent.
What Vick did is horrible, but what gives you the moral high ground to condemn him?
My point is this: You waste so much of your time posting here, and none of it doing GOOD. Ranting against Vick doesn’t help animals. Volunteering does.
Of course, it can’t be that you’re just a Skins/Boys/Giants fan that already hated the Eagles, right? Because that would make you a fraudulent douchebag.
    Please, prove me wrong.
