Goodell sees developments in L.A. as "positive"

Though the NFL has yet to fully (or even partially) embrace Ed Roski’s “if they come, I will build it” plan for a new stadium in Los Angeles, Commissioner Roger Goodell acknowledged during a Sunday interview with James Brown of CBS’s The NFL Today the recent “positive” developments relating to the proposed venue.

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed into law a measure that clears away a pending environmental lawsuit, allowing the stadium to be built.  If Roski can get a team to play there.

In this regard, Goodell said that there’s still  “a lot more work to be done,” and that “we really have to figure out how to finance” the stadium.

So the league might still not be overly interested in Roski’s plan.  The “positive” news, then, is that the California political system seems willing pull whatever strings might be necessary in order to pave the way for a new stadium, whether it’s in Industry or Irwindale or some other L.A.-area town.

But there’s still no clear sense of urgency.

“Hopefully, someday we’ll be able to get back to Los Angeles,” Goodell said, which sounds a lot like what we’ve been hearing for the past 15 years.

    @ravensos …
    You were saying? Go Steelers!!!!!
    Now Vikes can go 15-1 and stay in Minn. w/the fans that love them.
    As for L.A., they’ve already run off two teams, why do they need another one? They have the Lakers and Young Hollywood. They’re happy.

    Bring back the Rams.
    I hate the stadium location though but I guess there’s no stopping it now.
