Leon Washington is out for the year with broken leg

As expected, that ugly leg injury suffered on Sunday by Jets running back Leon Washington will end his 2009 season.

A league source tells us that Washington suffered a fractured fibula in the first half of the Jets’ Week Seven game against the Raiders.  Washington will have surgery in Oakland because the bone broke through the skin, raising fears of infection.  He’s expected to be back to full strength in 2010, with a projected recovery time of 12 weeks.

Washington is in the final year of his rookie contract, and negotiations have at times been contentious.  It remains to be seen whether Washington’s injury affects the team’s position in future discussions.

Absent an extension to the labor agreement, Washington will be a restricted free agent in 2010.

Could this derail the Jets Superbowl express?

“Washington will have surgery in Oakland because the bone broke through the skin, raising fears of infection.”
Those are words you don’t ever want to hear.
The only thing comparable to that is if someone from the Pats/Bucs game lost some teeth and needed immediate dental work in England.

After all of the season-ending injuries to players on all of the teams, does the NFL really think it’s a good idea to increase the schedule to 17 or 18 games?
    Totally nuts.

Makes you think he should have taken the $3 0r $4 million per that the Jets were offering ohh jeez. Speedy recovery

Free agent next year. Well played there Leon… well played.

That seems to be the Raiders mo, they cleaned out starters on both sides of the ball playing the Chargers. Took out players at KC, the Eagles and others.
As bad as the Raiders play football maybe they should think about starting a roller derby team and dropping out of the NFL.

“Projected recovery time of 12 weeks???? Are you kidding me???? 3 months for a broken leg sticking through the skin? Doogie Howser must not have made that prognosis…must have been Dr. J.

You know what you are, snnyjcbs?
You’re that turd that’s hiding under a porch, it stays there and smells worse and worse until it finally decays, and gets infested with maggots.
    That’s what you are.

This sucks for Leon, good luck man

Bone sticking out of the skin… Ouch!
I don’t even wish that on a New York Jet.

    Wow.
Normal people would probably investigate the smell that is getting worse and worse….before it starts drawing maggots.
Why does your porch have so many turds under it?

Picked him up for the horrible Raiders rush defense and he drops a goose egg.
Should have taken the 3-4 mil Jets offered, prolly looking for Sproles type of money, but Sproles only got that because of franchise tag.
Broken leg is a better prognosis than tearing knee ligaments. Wouldn’t wish either on anyone, but it could have been worse.

Saw that hit. Not pretty. Shonn Greene stepped up for him and got the job done, but Washington was missed.
Rest up and heal quick, Leon.

Have a good recovery Leon, hate to see that kind of injury happen to anyone.

Honestly…i think he still have a role with this team next season, and i feel like he might not be able to be a crazy kickoff guy anymore. But its a broken leg that will heel. If this was a knee injury, i would stay away from him.
Sorry Leon, no huge contract, but i still want you on my Team. With Greene looking like he has some sort of hard running future. T. Jones isn’t going to be around forever and Greene and Washington in the back field is def a good future.
He should sign the next contract put in front of him.
