New York Jets running back Leon Washington was carted off the field in Oakland with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury during the first quarter of today’s game.
Washington was injured on his first carry when a Raiders player rolled on his ankle in a pile-up. TV replays showed Washington’s lower legs bending in a way that lower legs aren’t supposed to bend. The injury was reminiscent of the broken leg that ended Joe Theismann’s career, and it would be shocking if Washington isn’t out for the season, if not longer.
As Bob Glauber of Newsday pointed out on Twitter, the injury is especially painful for Washington because he was seeking a new contract before the season and failed to reach an agreement.
Washington is an important part of the Jets’ offense and special teams. He entered today’s game with 71 carries for 325 yards, 15 catches for 131 yards and 16 kickoff returns for 385 yards.
Late in the first quarter, the Jets lead the Raiders 14-0.
oh man he was an important part of my fantasy league team
One fantasy player down…great.
Hope he got paid or you will see how quickly he is forgotten and Thomas gets his!!
Guess Fred Flintstone will have to learn how to put the brakes on this jets slide himself
Never want to see anyone hurt. I hope his injury turns out to be not as bad as it initially looks.
That being said, I have Thomas Jones on my fantasy team, so from a purely fantasy perspective, this probably helps me. Can’t say I’m happy, but it’s one of those breaks in football that may end up helping me.
Nice responses. Screw the guys career and his health, look what he did to my fantasy Team.
Get off our high horse Fan_of_Four. The ankle will heal and he’ll still be rich.
It’s football shit happens.
just watched in twice in slow-mo. MAN, I hope thats not as bad for him as it looks, but it looks pretty bad. I hope nothing is broken for his sake, injuries suck.
“The injury was reminiscent of the broken leg that ended Joe Theismann’s career, and it would be shocking if Washington isn’t out for the season, if not longer.”
Can we wait to hear what the Drs say before we jump to such a drastic statement…jeez you guys act like a second rate sports network.
It was pretty bad but Theisman had a leg broken in front of the nation and it was an obvious break…it didnt look like that to me.
by the way the raiders stink!
Oh, God! Think of the fantasy teams! The FANTASY TEAMS!
