In a year that has featured so much discussion about the job security of Chargers coach Norv Turner, it's time to scrutinize (as pointed out in this week's SportingNews.com 10-Pack) that Norv's brother should be getting some serious scrutiny, too.
Ron Turner became the Bears' offensive coordinator in 2005. That same year, running back Cedric Benson and quarterback Kyle Orton arrived via the draft.
Both are gone -- and both are flourishing in their new homes. So how is Turner not catching any blame for his failure to get the most out of these two players?
Then there's the fact that Jay Cutler is looking like anything but the guy for whom the Bears gave up two first-round draft picks and Orton. On Sunday, the Bears are being shredded by the Bengals, 31-3, and the Chicago offense has struggled, with no running game (again) and two interceptions and counting from Cutler.
So at some point this has to begin to stick to Ron Turner. Then again, if it hasn't already happened, maybe it never will.
Ron Turner deserves plenty of blame for Bears' struggles

yes, but lovie smith bares more blame for keeping him.
and not pressuring palmer today THE ONLY SURE WAY to lose every time you do it.
note- other nfl coachs also use this strategy when they want to.
Cedric Benson to Chicago:
"Tell me how my ass taste!!!!"
Bears coaching staff. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory everytime!
Cedric Benson failed not only with the Bears. He failed also with the Texans. This is not the case of a team not using a player to his talents. This is the case of a player finally working hard to fulfill his talents.
How Ron Turner deserve blame for turning a fourth round draft pick destined to be a career backup to a starting quarterback for a team that almost made it to the playoffs last year with only one decent offensive weapon (Forte) and a crumbling offensive line, I'll never know.
da bears...lol
thanks for Ced Benson, and for playing your best...lol...btw you guys suck
the Bears forgot, when they got Cutler, that FORTE is the heart of their offense. Cutler does what he wants, and when that happens, turnovers do too
There's lots of blame to go around. Turner's one of many culprits here. This all boils down to overall talent on the offensive side. What does Cutler have to work with. Look at the sack stats that they just flashed on the screen. The easy story is that Orton's performance in Denver is because Turner isn't his coach. The real story is far easier than that.....talent. Take a look at what surrounds Orton in Denver and then take a look at what Cutler has here. I completely disagree with the take that Cutler hasn't lived up to what they wanted. He has, but take a look at the total lack of a line and the total lack of an offense around him. There were far too many people overvaluing Forte and there is absolultely nothing there that would pass for an NFL calibre offensive talent around him.
child please...go home and cry a lake full
All hail the Messiah, Jay Cutler!
Mr. Down-syndrome face is in true form today, good thing the Bears gave him that big extension!
Lovie and all of the coaching staff should be removed from Chicago
Bear fans, you were warned, Cutler just isn't a winning QB no matter where he goes.
Todays lesson: Be careful what you wish for.
filteraccount says:
Get your facts right before leaving your comment! Benson did not sign with the Texans, they only looked at him. He did not "work hard" in Chicago. He whined and expected everything given to him. He ALWAYS put himself above the team. I was always a Benson fan but he was a pathetic excuse for a pro in Chicago. He has been reborn in Cincinnati and is a pleasure to watch. He should issue a rebate to Chicago for the money he stole from them. And in parting, Orton was a 3rd round pick and was the clear starter in Chicago, not a career back up! Other than that everything you said was accurate!
lol orton for cutler alone right now is not a good deal denver won that deal flat out ha ha the bears suck cutler has more int then orton has tds lol franchise qb what a joke eat crow bears fans by the way orton is 6-0 lol
Really, if you look at the number of pass plays to runs... the Bears give up on the run way too soon. The O-Line sucks, no... really.. it does...
The defense has overpaid, over-rated (Harris, urlacher) dead weight.... and a general lack of talent..
This is a deep hole that the Bears are in and it is time for new management, coaches and players.
I have been saying that for years. Ron Turner is what has been holding Chicago back for not one, but 2 terms as OC. And as for notudey...the Bears and the Bengals have one thing in common, they will both be watching the Super Bowl. This is one game, I wouldn't get too high on the Bengals just yet. But you are right about one thing, today, Chicago sucked.
The O-line does suck. That is what took us to the Super Bowl in '06. Omiyale is horrible. He has chased more defenders back to Cutler than I can count this year. It is going to be a long year.
Cutler is and always has been overrated. Sure he has a big time arm but a two cent brain.
Now combine that with WR's that are barely average and you have the current mess in Chicago. I'm not saying Ron Turner is blameless but if Childress can win games in Minnesota, I guess lack of imagination in an offense isn't the barrier you think it is.
Let's wait till the end of the season before we declare Orton the next John Elway. He is servicable and the Broncos, much like the Vikings, have enjoyed quite a bit of luck up to this point in the season.
"Then there's the fact that Jay Cutler is looking like anything but the guy for whom the Bears gave up two first-round draft picks and Orton. On Sunday, the Bears are being shredded by the Bengals, 31-3, and the Chicago offense has struggled, with no running game (again) and two interceptions and counting from Cutler."
Florio, what the hell are you talking about?
Last year Cutler had: 27 touchdowns, 18 interceptions, and 5 fumbles. And that is with a far superior Denver Bronco receiving squad. Two of those touchdowns were rushing touchdowns. He was also playing in a much easier division.
If you look at Cutler's stats, his passer rating prior to this game was a tad bit higher than it was in Denver last year.
Blaming Turner for Cutler's shitty performance as a Bear is off the mark. The Bears were just fools for bringing in Cutler in the first place paying that high of a price.
Cutler is not a disciplined QB, his time in Denver proves that. He is playing at the same level that he was in Denver. He still is just as inconsistent. He doesn't play mistake free football.
no one is calling Orton the next Elway. But let's give the guy his due. It's only been 6 games, but he has far outplayed pretty much everyone's expectations of him. For Denver fans, Orton's demeanor and lack of pouting and bitching stands in stark contrast to Cutler. Orton is thriving in a system suited to his talents, and he is coming up big in the 4th quarter, when it counts the most. That also happened to be the time when Cutler would make a crucial mistake last year, more times than not.
And there is a line that old-school coaches love..."Prepared teams make their own luck." The Broncos have obviously benefited from some good bounces, but they still had to capitalize on each bit of "luck." That's what good teams do, and that's exactly what the Broncos have done.
All you twats calling out Cutler and Ron Turner for today, are just that, twats.
The Bears were taken out of their entire gameplan by the Bengals offensive blowout. They had to throw every play to try and come back.
You bunch of morons don't know anything about football. This loss had NOTHING to do with the Bears offense today.
Let's not all be surprised here. The Bears suck.
Ron Turner deserves blame, but Cedric Benson was a whiny bust. It seems like he's finally realized how lucky he is to play a sport for a living. Good for him, but I don't put any blame on Benson on the staff. Thomas Jones was the better back then (and may still be a better back now).
Also, Cutler's struggled this year, but Orton would've done far worse. We saw him struggle with a good run game ... anyone think with that windup he would've been better with this current offense? I defended Orton (partly because the other option was Grossman), but he's succeeding due to the system there. In that respect, sure, one can blame Turner for not tailoring his offense to Orton a bit more, but few coaches tailor their offenses to a QB that is drafted after the first day, unless that QB grabs the reigns and runs with it, which Orton never successfully did in Chicago when he was starting. I'm happy for him, though.
Cutler hasn't been bad. He's actually been solid. A bit of credit has to go to Turner adjusting. He's actually worked tougher route combinations than in the past, due to Cutler's velocity, which is as important as his arm strength. The receivers have been better than expected, but they'll improve as the season progresses.
That said, for anything positive that Turner has done in changing some passing schemes, his failure to generate the run game has been bad. IT's not all his fault - the OL is horrible. The interior 3 aren't very good, but the Bears OL depth isn't all that great. Turner (and Lovie) need to suck it up and start Beekman, even if he isn't ideal. None of the current 3 starters are particularly great in-line blockers anymore, and Kreutz/Garza are aging. At least, with Beekman, while not a top in-line guy, he's younger and will stick his nose. Omiyale is not a starting interior guard. You could live with one "pull guy" with Omiyale or Garza, but you can't live with two if you are trying to be able to interior run. To be honest, while this has little to do with the run game, I wouldn't mind seeing Pace/Williams flip sides, but I doubt that happens.
The weakness of the OL has led to Forte, imo, dancing more. What's funny is that while the run game was a concern in the preseason, the backups have done alright. The loss of Kevin Jones hasn't been that bad, although a better backup is needed next year.
Cutler's made some mistakes. Not trying to excuse him, but he's, for the most part, been relatively solid. Couple of the picks today seemed like WR mistakes.
Besides putting Beekman in, I think Ron and Lovie need to ponder using the pass to generate the run, and not the other way around. The lack of upfront talent means physically pounding away might be a bit futile unless you play a bad team. They need to either find a way to stretch the offense and, thus, force DC's to make decisions with their safeties. Another option is to spread it out, get Wolfe involved in the spread a bit more. The OL talent simply isn't there to bang it away. Kevin Shaffer isn't a physical in-line guy, and Lance Louis is too young. The only option to switch out is Beekman.
I also think Turner needs to find ways to create mismatches. Namely, right now, the Bears WR's don't cause mismatches. They can succeed, but they need to force the action. I'd like to see Olsen used more as a boundary target. His value in attacking the seams is high, but with Kellen Davis' development, I am comfortable with him utilized more as a 2nd TE if possible and Desmond Clark is still solid. This gets a big WR out on the edge, and Olsen's athleticism is top notch. None of the Bears WR's are good enough to have a CB follow him around, so this may create more interior space and better matchups against depth CB's for a guy like Hester, or a guy like Knox, where their speed might be too much.
At the end of the day, the OL talent may simply not be good enough.
why is Turner to blame? Benson was a weed head while he was in Chicago and couldn't stay out of trouble, couldnt even break into the starting position against Thomas Jones, Bears traded Jones away to let Benson strive, what did he do? Got in trouble with the law AGAIN and had played horrible.
Orton was traded away and that was upper management. Orton is flourishing because Denver does not throw deep. It's all short passes.
I don't think Turners to blame while the defense stayed in Chicago and missed the flight to Cincinnati.
I thought Jay Cutler was the cure-all for the Bears woes...
Don't any of you even dare say a harsh word about Lovie Smith.
Lovie Smith is a DEFFENSIVE GENIUS!
A genius I say!
He can take the always over rated and now out dated cover-2 and lead the Bears to victory because there is no alternative.
No other direction to take when you have a “vision” and you are focused on the way you used to do things. Even if those things never resulted in a top NFL defense in St. Louis.
These are the right players even if they are always too small to match up with the other team’s players.
Small & quick is how Lovie likes them.
This is the right scheme even if the league figured it out years ago and knows just how to beat it consistently.
Cover-2 is all he knows and that is why Ron Rivera had to go. None of this using what works best nonsense in Lovie's world. There is only one way and that is it.
This is the right offensive coordinator even if he can take a talented QB and water down the play calling as if Kyle Orton was still taking the snaps (even from Oily Kreutz)
Play not to loose and hope for a lucky break is Lovie's method. Play it safe even when you are down by 28 points.
Put chains on the fast receivers and make sure that you come up short on 3rd down time after time after time....
Like a rock he is!
Now that the man is calling the shots you can forget the finger pointing because the buck stops with Lovie.
You can blame Lovie if the D sucks this year. Remember him saying that?
Lovie's teams come to play.
What a train wreck this clown is.
Start talking to Bill Cowher now and assure him that he has the job as soon as this season is finished.
Cutler has officially changed his name to Jeff George..Courtney Love was already taken..Million dollar arm 5 cent brain..
orton learned how to play mistake-free qb for what was at one point a good team.
he is still doing it. forget the not-gaudy stats - he WINS.
maybe the lack of surrounding talent makes him do it now, but cutler was captain free-lance in denver. and he still is.
Gentlemen, good evening. I'm happy the subject has been broached. Since 2005, I have been screaming at my TV set, every time I watch the Bears offense. Ron Turner has continuously upset me with his play calling. How many screens, 5 yard outs, and short passes can you call when it's 3RD and 15? Ron Turner appears to be watching a different game than everyone else, and I am surprised he's not been fired by now. I don't understand it. It's so upsetting, and it happens over and over again. Please Bears, fire Ron Turner!!!
How high do you want to go?
Turner is terrible but it was the defense that let the Bengals score 5 TDs in 6 possessions... Who's calling the plays there? Ron's boss Lovie... It's time to reset on the coaching staff.
I don't know how Smith thought he had his house so much in order that he could focus on running the defense also.
Clearly that was a major mistake.
It's a good thing he likes calling the plays for defense because I think St Louis may be looking for D.Coordinator.
I've' been saying since '05 that Turner needs to go. The impression that he leaves on me after failing to make great calls during intense situations , gives me high blood pressure. Never been a fan. Cutler is a great quarterback. I do agree though that he needs to mature a bit. If he took the role of a leader, like Urlacher does over the defense, he would be a real franchise quarterback for the Chicago Bears.
If Angelo wants to save his job, then Lovie and Turner has to go. Benson didn't jell in Chicago because we had no offense. Dink and Dunk, and now that is what Cutler has been reduced to. I like the saying we play with what we have, if you don't have the talent to win, how long do you need to get it. Johnny Knox is fast, but not even close to the receiver that Bennett is, and he's only been there for 2 years. Lovie has lived on ridiculous come backs, defesens and special teams scoring. It gets old. Last weeks 12 men on the field, Lovie has no firer. This tampa 2 cover, no man to man, we let receiver run all over with out hitting at the line of scrimage, if your going to get beat get beat hitting. rule give you 5 yards use it, disrupt the timing for god sakes. we can't get a first round receiver until 2012, Hester,Bennett,Olsen,Forte,Knox, all are talented. No coaching in Chicago period. Did you see how confused our D was.
Ron Turner is too predictable...Cutler needs to stop forcing throws to Olsen and why cant we get Forte the ball in the flats he is a good utility to use he knows how to run the ball after the catch. We need to get Forte's run game back so we can become more balanced and right now Turner is not creating that for us...there is no way Cutler should be throwing the ball every damm play and we need to stop waiting on our defense to make plays because right now we are hurting on the defensive side of the ball so the Offense needs to step it up...My finger is pointing at Turner send him back to the Fighting Illini he would still fit in down there.
Mistakes have been made, sure. I will comment on some.
Ron Turner is the #1 mistake. And not just once, but twice! Let's not forget he was the lousy O-coordinator before he left the Bears to go destroy the University of Illinois football program. After he did that, he came back to the Bears. Oh, Illinois has yet to recover.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, Orton was one of the leading passers in college coming out of Purdue but broke his leg or something which hurt his draft status. And, Cutler (like Orton last year) would be fine if he is not running for his life. If a team can't run the rock or pass block, the problem is the O-line. The girls up front are old and slow. The trade is okay.
Cedric Bensen was a bust here. He put himself ahead of the team and lost the respect of his teamates and had off-field issues do the degree team management had no choice but to let him go. He was looked at by Houston and they passed. He was picked up by Cinci and cut and picked up again. Much on the recommendation to Coach Lewis by Coach Smith. He may now actually become what he should have been 4 years ago.
Before the season started, I looked at the Bears and thought 7-9. Now I think they might be 6-10 or 5-11 now.
Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith - what the heck is going on?
I would be plenty happy to see Turner fired, but I would prefer the whole coaching staff go and the Bears actually pony up some money and go after Bill Cowher. Then again, the misers of the midway would never pay a top notch coach.
I concur with many of the statements posted above, but I think it is a telling statement on Turner that Orton goes to Denver and recently says he has learned more about offense in 4 months in Denver than he did in 4 years in Chicago. The offensive and defensive systems being employed by the the Bears are outdated and stale. I can literally sit on my couch and call what the Bears will be doing next. If a couch potato such as myself can do this, it's no wonder the Bears are getting smoked! There is absolutely no creativity happening here.
Lovie keeping Bob Babich on staff technically as DC, after last year, is appalling to me. To Lovie, loyalty to a friend and horrible coach means more than winning. Make no mistake, they are scheming during the week together, and I saw Babich the Baboon calling plays today.
Bears are extremely disappointing to me and the rest of Chicago right now.
Hey McCaskeys... FIRE THEM ALL!! SPEND SOME MONEY AND GO GET COWHER!!
Great post, toonster. Finally a post from someone who actually knows football.
For those of you who are caling Cultler a moron with a "two-cent brain" fail to understand that he is actually a very intelligent person. He graduated from Vanderbilt University, a school which most of you idiots wouldn't even be able to get into. He achieved his degree while starting in 45 games as the quaterback of a division 1 school. The dedication and intelligence that takes is beyond most of your pea-sized imaginations.
However, he is mistake prone. That is something that a good offensive ccordinator could coach around. Too bad Chicago doesn't have one.
Another point is that while the intercetions are credited to him at least half of them are due to reciever mistakes (wrong route, tipped ball and just plain lack of effort). If he had a couple of receivers who are willing to sell out to catch the ball the bears offense would be better. Not good, just better.
Now, the line issues. Cultler has the arm strength to make most throws off of his back foot. However when that happens there's no follow-through and accuracy suffers. Notice the plays where Cutler is given the time to step into his throws and his receivers actually run good routes. I believe that Cutler has what it takes to be a very good quarterback, the best in Bears history. I know that's like being the tallest midget but , hey. I also believe that WILL NOT happen with Ron Turner as the OC. He failed in his first stint with the Bears, he failed at U of IL and he is a repeat failure with the bears. I think Mr. Turner should take a couple weekd off, then quit football altogether.
Life-Time Bears Fan.
I'm happy this finally was voiced. Every year this guy escapes culpabilty yet there are defensive coaching changes every year. You trade for cutler and it's like now what? its the same unimaginative nonsense as when orton was there. Is the offensive coordinator not responsible for the offense and it's players? It's time for lovie to findthe right OC for cutlers ability or he shouldn't see 2013 with cutler
Turner needs to go, and Ive been saying that since he got here! Actually, the defense Lovie is in charge of looks in disaray. The secondary is a joke, pass rush is non existent unless he rushes 8-9 players. The O line is pathetic..... Get rid of em all. Brian Greise had it right when he said he was "fortunate" his helmet speakers quit working way back and was able to call his own plays..lol he scored a TD and that got him marched staright outta town. But really..leave it to the Bears to finally get the QB they and we have dreamed of then surround him with...um....

Benson wasn't cut by Cincy. He was picked up last year under a 1 year contract. After the season he wanted to test the waters as a free agent. He ended up resigning with us, but did so as a free agent, we made it clear after the season he could come back if he wanted to, but we never "cut" him.
@NelsonLRodriguez your a twat thinking cutler bad ints dont kill the bears watch where he throws them always in or close to the redzone fact is cutler makes bad decisions and orton doesnt mcdaniels hand pickedorton for his system for a reason who cares about the long pass ball control wins games cutler will never win a superbowl until he learns to go through his progressions the facts are the facts so yes u are the only twat here
The biggest mistake was when the Bears let go of Ron rivera and kept Ron Turner. You let go the Best Defensive Coordinator the Bears have had since Buddy Ryan and keep one of the worst Offensive Coordinators in the history of Football.
I have been saying for the last few years that Ron Turner should be let go. And now Lovie Smith is Running the Defense and they look the worst I have seen in a long time. He plays a ou dated scheme that works on no one. And the bears new they had a bad O-Line last year and tried to address it with an old man named orlando Pace.
I feel sorry for Matt Forte who does not have a hole to run through and Jay Cutler who does not have time to through to his speedy receivers because he is running for his life on every posession. Bottom line change all of the coaches and start over and give your second string offensive linemen a chance they can not do any worse. when you can not stop a four man rush you are just SORRY.
Mr. Turner sucks as an OC. The play calling isn't one that would take any team let alone the Bears to any promise land of the Super Bowl. One thing that a lot of people needs to understand is that the Bears are not a run first team any longer. When they got Cutler, their franchise QB, they lost that run first status. YOU ARE A PASSING TEAM Mr. Turner. Hell, running the ball up the gut when there are eight in the box should be an indicator that no one is afraid to load up on you. Here's an idea hit Knox or Hester on a quick slant or go play action and make them pay for loading up the box. The D needs to run a 3-4. I don't want to hear that you need to have atheletic players to run that defense. They get paid millions to play in a sport that so many of us want to play, so they should be able to play in any system that the coaching staff deems there base formation. The cover two, or Tampa two is vulnerable and everyone knows how to destroy it. Hit the receiver in the seam and you either get big yardage or a TD. Cover two out 3-4 in.
Bobby Morris
Cutler looks just like he always has--great one game, then a disaster the next, and of course it's never his fault when things go wrong. No wonder the Broncos were ready to trade this "franchise quarterback".
Give the Bengals' offense some credit for stunning the Bears in the first half. 98 yards on the ground for Benson - but most devastating was that Palmer's 4 first-half TD passes were to 4 different receivers. Chicago's D didn't know what hit 'em. All Turner/Cutler could do in the second half was pass-pass-pass to try and catch up, and while the Bengal defense isn't stocked with ProBowlers, they're good enough to snuff-out any offense forced to go one-dimensional.
Where are the deep balls to the fastest pair of wideouts in the league? Isn't that why we traded for Cutler anyway, because Orton can't throw the deep ball? Where are the passes to Olsen (6'5") and Kellen Davis (6'7") in the red zone? If Atlanta is blowing up the line of scrimmage every rush attempt, why would you hand off to Forte and not let Cutler fall forward for an easy touchdown? It's almost as if Turner doesn't pay attention to the game or personnel, just thinks to himself, "Third and short, what would Norv do here? I sure wish he'd answer my texts faster." In addition to firing Turner, they need to bench Orlando Pace and Olin Kreutz, move Williams to left, bring in Shaffer to play right, and bring in Beekman to play center so Cutler can stop digging shotgun snaps out of the dirt. I love Orton and know he'll have a long and prosperous career, but I still think Cutler fits our personnel better and is the better quarterback if only we could get a decent playcaller in. We'd have more success simply letting Jay call his own plays. As for Cedric Benson, good riddance and good luck to the moron that gives him a big contract, after which he'll revert to the same old pathetic excuse for a running back and man that he was for us.
BEARS COACHES, IF YOU ARE LISTENING HERE IS YOUR FIX.
Talk to Cutler. He is a Prima Donna, but you are married to him and he to you. Tell him that you are a run first team. You don't have the WR's to let him throw all over the field "willy nilly". GO BACK TO FORTE early and often. Did I mention "USE FORTE"? His swagger is gone, because he has sensed your love for cutler. Tell culter and Forte that THIS IS FORTE'S TEAM, and cutler is here to support Forte.
Then give up on the Heaster is a WR experiement. He is a far better weapon and makes the team much more dangerous as a return man. Mre offensive touches doesn't translate into more team explosion. Move him back to full-time return man and let him get a check so he feesl secure. You have "jacker up a hall of fame return man, if there ever was one. awful move. Rely on the guys you drafted at wide receiver to play wide receiever.
Culter is the worst enemty of a defense. check everywhere he has been. You didn't evaluate that before you drooled all over him did you. Bottom line stop throwing at least by 50%, start playing special teams, and let your speedy defense be speedy. FORTE, not culter, FORTE, FORTE, FORTE. Do the right thing!!!!! Sotp trying to be sexy and sell tickets. Winning sells tickets. Oh BTW, Minnesota same message insert Favre, AP and Percy harvin.
Little league coaches can see this.

THANK YOU!
I've been saying that Turner is the problem for YEARS! He is awful. Terrible. Should be taken out back and... well you get the picture.
FIRE RON TURNER!
Why does everyone talk about Kyle Orton like he's a freaking high school quarterback? Orton was actually developing and having a really good season last year until he got injured...he tried to come back to quick and his performance and numbers suffered. But, he was progressing and has been steadily improving since the time he was drafted. Anyone who is suprised (that includes haters from this website and the 4 letter) that this guy is having success obviously never looked at his 27-12 record as a starter.
Quote from PackFanNChiTown: "Mr. Down-syndrome face is in true form today, good thing the Bears gave him that big extension!"
Say what you want about any team, player, or coach but you're a class-less piece of crap for making a comment like that.
Pull your head out of your ass. You'll find it's a much brighter world.
Orton saying he has already learned more in 4 months in Denver than 4 years in Chicago is a telling statement against Turner!!!
I think it accurate to say there IS enough blame to go around. Defensively the Bears have been ravaged with their star starters out. That defense was designed around those starters and the replacements have different strengths but the defense has not been adjusted to utilize those strengths (this is on the assumption that everyone has strengths). I watch their pass defense and it looks more like a prevent. No energy, no hunger, no going after the ball, just try and prevent catastrophe.
Offensive line is very weak. So why the slavish devotion to "over the middle" runs when they aren't productive? The Bears score few points in the first half because they try to establish the run. They do need the run but try something different for a change. True that routes were developed for their receivers but I'm not seeing any adjustment to those routes. Neither are the other teams. Coverage is easy when your opponent uses the same bag of tricks over and over.
I have been a Bears fan most of my life, from the time they moved to Soldier Field. Lovey Smith is one of my favorite coaches but he can't do it all. He needs to let his coaching saffs do their jobs. But I also agree that it is high time to make an offensive coaching change.
My bad on my previous post thinking Bensen was released.
Anyway, another telling tail is in the talent level. Jerry Angelo came to the Bears in 2001 and he began drafting players in 2002. Most teams draft between 8 and 12 players. The draft has reduced rounds lately so I'll keep to the minimum.
8 years x 8 potential picks per draft = 64 players
Only 7 players are on the current roster or 10.9% of the players from Jerry's Angelo's drafts have worked out. And "worked out" is a reletive term when Garrett Wolf is one of the 7.
So while I still think Ron Turner has to go, I really think Ted Phillips needs to have a heart to heart with the key player personnel people and ask why we can't draft. You cannot be good if you are building a team around other team's cast offs (the waiver wire).
