JaMarcus will remain the man

Raiders coach Tom Cable didn’t even have to be asked the question.

JaMarcus Russell remains Oakland’s starting quarterback, despite getting the hook in Sunday’s 38-0 loss to the Jets.  After the game, various players took responsibility for their roles in the worst loss in Raiders history.  Except Russell

“I don’t think it’s me personally, I really don’t,” Russell said after the game.
“It’s a bad combination of one guy doesn’t do something right one time.
Personally, I don’t think so . . . Do you?”

(Yes, and we also just heard the sound of a thousand Raiders fans screaming.)

Russell  also asked said he was happy with all his reads and decisions.  JaMarcus turned the ball over three times despite throwing only 11 times, one of them being an inexplicable toss to Jets defender Jim Leonhard with no Raider players nearby.

Russell was booed heavily Sunday, but Raiders fans are speaking loudest with their indifference.  The paid attendance for Sunday’s loss was the lowest in Oakland since 1968.

Jamarcus was happy with all his reads? I didn’t know he could read.

  2. Asswipe Johnson (Pronounced Az-Wee-Pay) says: Oct 26, 2009 11:38 AM

And to think this team should have Calvin Johnson and Michael Crabtree rostered instead of Jamarcus Russell and Darius “Ironhands” Heyward-Bey.
Bruce Gradkowski would already have a nickname like the “Polish BB-Gun” with those two receivers in tow.

  3. RogerSucks says: Oct 26, 2009 11:40 AM

He is the QB equivilent of his owner. Two men at opposite ends of life who are too stubborn to realize what is going on. Or in Russell’s case he might just be to stupid, at least Davis has accomplished things.

  4. woneal says: Oct 26, 2009 11:42 AM

Let me get this straight, not only is our QB not smart, he’s also delusional, and apparently, a huge a$$hole. Come on Davis. Give us Raiders fans something to hold on to.

  5. r8rsfan says: Oct 26, 2009 11:42 AM

This kid just does not get it. Seems like a nice guy, easy going and pretty low key. None of these characteristics would be used to describe any of the effective QB’s in the game today. Doesn’t seem to have the fire to compete or will to win.
This franchise is FUBAR’d from top to bottom, front to back.
    Skeletor is immortal.

  6. Roni06 says: Oct 26, 2009 11:44 AM

Jamarcus Russell is the biggest bust ever period, and worst of all he doesn’t give a d*m. Another perfect example of the fact that the game has passed Al Davis crazy @ss, without training camp, and a holdout Michael Crabtree has more catches in one game then DHB in the entire season. I’m glad that finally the fan base has said enough is enough(it was the lowest attendence since 1968). Stevie Wonder can see this team has no chance of anything until Al Davis is gone!!!

  7. slipkid says: Oct 26, 2009 11:45 AM

yup, even florio would be better than bust-ell.
in 68 the fans knew the raiders would paste everyone out there except maybe kc.
and people talk about the lions curse…

Russell is just hoping/begging to be cut.
Check out his contract details on Rotoworld, everyone that mentions how the Raiders should drop him to save money is missing the fact that the option bonus is paid and his salary is guaranteed. The guy is just waiting to be cut so he can move on with his life (aka, how fast can I eat my way to 400 lbs).
    http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4154
Don’t get me wrong, they need to cut him for the good of the team. Or demote him to 3rd string and make him hang around for punishment while fining him for every dollar possible. They actually have the pieces for a half decent team, even with a scrub at QB – but they are screwed on the money.

  9. xxxteejxxx says: Oct 26, 2009 11:51 AM

Jamarcus Russell is absolutely clueless. He reminds me of Ryan Leaf.

  10. b0knows says: Oct 26, 2009 11:53 AM

hate to break it to you, but JeMarcus has never been ‘the man’

  11. psyseb says: Oct 26, 2009 11:57 AM

This has gone beyond a joke. Russell made Gradkowski look great, he is an NFL backup at best. This is beginning to get very painful! He must go.

  12. magsdad1 says: Oct 26, 2009 11:58 AM

And thus the Raiders will continue to embarrass themselves through the decisions of Al Davis.

    Committment to Excellence!

  14. KrazyTrumpeter05 says: Oct 26, 2009 12:00 PM

Of course he’s “the man”. Who the hell else do they have? This team in the Redskins are in such shambles. It makes me laugh.

  15. Bob Nelson says: Oct 26, 2009 12:04 PM

    Should have started Garcia.
Garcia has to much pride to be thought of as a back up to Russell and left.
The real problem with the Raiders is Al Davis is dictator and the only people still with jobs are those yes men that do whatever Al says no matter how silly.
Al ought to have learned somewhere along the way that you can’t run anything well when you have only yes men working for you that are afraid to bring bad news or disagree with you.
Al will fire people for anything from lunch menu to how a secretary organizes her desk.
Somebody will get fired over the blackouts and blame will go anywhere but at the top.
It is the same guy who muscled in to become a minority owner of the Raiders and swindle the city of Irwindale, lied to Jeff George and sued the NFL numerous times.
He doesn’t trust anyone because he himself is untrustworthy.

  16. The Rural Juror says: Oct 26, 2009 12:06 PM

Considering the division, if you substitute Johnson and Crabtree and then Jeff Garcia leads your team to the playoffs…
    That’s gotta sting.

  17. darrius_heyward-bey-butterfingers says: Oct 26, 2009 12:16 PM

Where’s the Jamarcus Russell “FACT!” guy now?
FACT: Jamarcus has about 18 more starts than Mark Sanchez and he’s the one that looked like a rookie.
FACT: Jamarcus has less potential than Bruce Gradkrewskie.
FACT: Coach says Jamarcus is still da man and Jamarcus himself is proud of the way he played. And now we know why Garcia quit the Raiders, Jamarcus has been annointed despite his innabilities.

  18. ignoringthehaters says: Oct 26, 2009 12:22 PM

And my hopes are shattered again. Al must be going for an empty stadium. Sorry Al, but there is nothing in Russel you haven’t seen yet. Yes, he really is that bad. Just think if you would have kept Garcia………

  19. whodathunkit says: Oct 26, 2009 12:23 PM

Jamarkus looks like Big Bird in black/silver…
JR probably puts his jock on backwards so that he can catch what comes out when the blitz gets too heavy.

  20. Dr. Michael says: Oct 26, 2009 12:24 PM

How can Russell wear two 3 carat earrings, one in each ear while playing football? Doesn’t that hurt when tackled? Maybe he has punkdiamondearringitis?

  21. INVAIDUH says: Oct 26, 2009 12:32 PM

    “Raiders fans screaming”
    Funny cause I was.
Russell’s much more indifferent than us..
    And that makes it worse.

  22. mooremi9 says: Oct 26, 2009 12:33 PM

No one will ever be worse then Ryan Leaf! Look up his numbers no one will ever come close. Dont get me wrong, Jamarcus Russell is god awful but Ryan Leaf was as bad as a fart with lumps. He was a disaster.

  23. Treezs says: Oct 26, 2009 12:48 PM

What’d they pay JaMarcus? 100 million guaranteed or something?

  24. shawnc16 says: Oct 26, 2009 12:56 PM

I’m a niners fan so we got our own issues to worry about but NO QB should ever say they were happy with all reads and decisions unless they played a near perfet game.
Even though I’m no raider fan it sucks that this guy doesn’t appear to be a stand up take responsibility guy. Sometimes as a QB you have to put the blame on your shoulder even if it ain’t all you but this guy refuses to do it even a little.
I feel for raiders fans stuck with this guy under center. Al should cut his loses and bench this guy.

  25. akuehn713 says: Oct 26, 2009 1:08 PM

I get so angry when people rip on the Lions, Bengals, Cardinals, Redskins, etc. as being the worst run franchises and leave the Raiders out of the conversation.
They are easily the worst franchise in the league and I don’t care how great they used to be. Even back when they were winning Super Bowls they were laying the “Thug Life” foundation that most professional athletes have today. The Raiders are the worst run frnachise in the league and they will continue to be for years. Davis is going to leave this team in such shambles that Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick and 32 first round picks couldn’t get them a winning record.
HOW HAVE 2 TEAMS LOST TO THEM THIS YEAR!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  26. jecaet says: Oct 26, 2009 1:19 PM

Hey Al…Better send someone out to Ryan Leaf’s house and ask him if he would like another shot. Despite what the last poster said, I think Leaf would be an improvement.

  27. RemoveAlFromPower says: Oct 26, 2009 1:20 PM

Guys, I can’t stress this enough.. Sign this petition and pass it on to all of your Raider nation friends! We need the NFL to step in because Al will be there til he dies otherwise and will be to stubborn to admit he has lost his football mind!!
    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/remove-al-davis-from-power-in-oakland
This might be the only way we draft a QB that can run this otherwise fairly good team! The defense is going to struggle against the run when the other team has over 50 attempts! If the offense was on the field for more than 3 plays, the defense might catch their breath!

  28. PayDoh says: Oct 26, 2009 1:32 PM

I honesty don’t think Jamarcus Russell is smart enough to work at Walmart. Big, dumb and……..

  29. tallfezq says: Oct 26, 2009 1:55 PM

The NFL will NEVER step in. This is way too much fun for the owners to watch this “A” hole run the raiduhs into the ground. But the problem is now out of hand. Its not competitive. its sad. its a crappy product. who can watch this? Thanksgiving against the Cowboys ? why bother?

  30. thebootguy says: Oct 26, 2009 1:55 PM

An NFL record for the worst record over the last 6 years ( and it’s most certainly going to be 7 ). Three straight first round draft pick busts! Now the lowest attendance since 1968! And the fun hasn’t even started yet Raider fans!!!! I’m loving this!!!!!

  31. AbeFreshly says: Oct 26, 2009 3:02 PM

When you think about Garcia’s parting words, & how “…some players walking through the doors are just cashing game checks…”, the environment in Oakland must be hopelessly oppressive.
If Garcia included Russell in the check-cashers, he would have been smart enough to stay, knowing that his chance to start would inevitably come. I guess DuhMarcus wasn’t included…or, maybe he WAS, but Garcia just could not stand the thought of backing up Russell when he knew Duh would be starting no matter HOW BAD he played.
But he must have seen how chock-filled with underachievers the roster is. Kirk Morrison is in the NFL’s top 10 in tackles almost every year, yet the run defense has NEVER placed higher than 22 as long as he’s been a starter. I can’t watch him overpursue/miss his gap, then watch some mongrel/unknown RB cut back to where Morrison SHOULD be…& go for 100 yds in the first half.
Garcia saw how deeply entrenched some of the “team leaders” are in Oakland (like Morrison). He also interacted with them & saw them practice everyday & must have deduced how clueless some of these guys really are.
After last week’s game #52 says “Stay with us Raider Nation!!”, then his D shows up (at HOME yet!) & allows 300 yds+ on the ground in the worst home defeat in franchise history. More than half of those yards to some unknown 3rd stringer, who had less less than 20 carries.
I think Russell isn’t the only player that should be benched. They should have gotten rid of Morrison while they had the chance.

  32. Tornadoes28 says: Oct 26, 2009 7:20 PM

In gods name why? Why stick with that complete failure Russell. THE worst #1 pick in NFL history. This franchise is so bad they are going to have to be taken over by the league very soon. Al Davis needs to be committed to a mental hospital.

  33. Ilovefoolsball says: Oct 26, 2009 7:32 PM

if you followed russell at LSU you would know that he was never the clear cut favorite there over Matt Flynn! How he escalated so fast up the draft board is beyond me. So because he can throw the ball really far that makes him an NFL QB? Does any stock go into the ability to read a defense or throw accurately at all? I can’t believe people actually get paid to be so stupid.

  34. fordlaw says: Oct 28, 2009 10:40 PM

Is it true that Russell ate 17 cheeseburgers at one meal right after training camp broke and now gets cheeseburgers free all at one meal for each completion during the game?
