Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris missed Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with what the team says was a knee injury. But according to Harris, what the team says about his knee isn’t true.
After the game, the Chicago Sun-Times reports, reporters approached Harris to ask him how his knee was feeling, and Harris responded by saying, “It wasn’t true.”
When asked directly whether a knee injury caused him to miss the
game, Harris responded, “No. You talk to them. If you came here
earlier, you saw, I worked out before the game.”
Harris, who missed all three practices last week, made the trip to Cincinnati and reportedly worked out on the field about two hours before kickoff, but NFL Network reported about four hours before kickoff that Harris would sit out. So the Bears apparently decided to sit Harris before letting him test the knee out on the field.
The NFL injury report listed Harris as doubtful with a knee injury, and the Bears’ official web site says Harris sat out with a knee injury. But Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo said in a radio interview on Thursday that the Bears were concerned about Harris’s performance, not his health.
“Tommie is healthy,” Angelo said. “That is not an issue.”
So what’s going on with Harris? We still don’t know. But we do know that the player and the team are not on the same page.
Apparently the Bengals came out with a little chip on their shoulder after the Texans ran up and down the field on them last week.
Nice effort Bears!
The Bears are cutlerized (a new synonym for ‘demoralized’). He sucked the life out the Broncos locker room with his really pretty and totally ineffective play, and it appears to be the case in Chicago. Harris probably had the temerity to bitch about JC’s baseless contract extension, and ended up paying for it. I doubt that the Bears cutlerized play on Sunday was complete coincidence.
How about a shout out for Josh McSixenO, though? The dude isn’t just a great motivator and game planner…he also seems to be the NFL version of an oncologist.
Harris probably doesn’t have an injury. He’s just got degenerative knees and needs a week off here and there. I was shocked at how bad the run defense was without him in the middle of the line.
today’s nfl
lots of non-effort blowouts yesterday
bears were IN THE TANK YESTERDAY
Someone will say it eventually so I will get it over with now.
This is no big deal, Bill Belicheat and the Cheatriots lie on the injury report all the time.
I think that will meet the mandatory Patriots bashing post.
So do the Bears get in trouble for falsifying the injury report on Harris?
