UFL faces a minor Thursday night problem in New York

So let's get this straight.

The UFL's goal was to play football games in the fall, at times when the NFL isn't playing.

The plan might work better if the fledgling league were to schedule games at a time when other sporting events aren't occurring, either.

Case in point?  One of the New York Sentinels' three home games will be played in Giants Stadium this week.  On the same night that the New York Yankees are hosting the Phillies in Game Two of the World Series.

Doh.

A reader advises us that the UFL is offering free tickets to local police departments and fire departments.  And that makes plenty of sense -- we can envision Tommy Gavin and his comrades not attending or watching the Yankees and instead going to the Meadowlands for a regular-season football game not involving the Jets or the Giants.

Then again, they might get a free T-shirt.

UFL will over take the NFL

I only hear about the UFL on this website. They are doing a terrible job of marketing their brand.

Mets fans, who don't want the Yankess to win again or to ever see the Phillies do well, could go.

How can you compare people who watch football to people who watch baseball? I'm not watching the UFL, but I'd watch their entire slate of games before I'd watch one minute of the "World" Series.

Baseball on PFT? How low can you go?

    What's next, soccer?

Seems like there are lot' of issues with baseball playoffs, not just this year. I myself would rather see the UFL game because baseball sucks.
Yep, i said it baseball sucks!

I can see it now.......UFL Doubleheader in London

Yeah Mike, they should have known that the Yankees would be playing the Phillies that day...if they made the schedule last night or this morning.

I agree with wishbone; I'm much more likely to watch UFL than the Yankees buy another "world championship" of a league where only half of the teams have a chance of being competitive on opening day.

There is no Thursday conflict. The Rangers, Islanders, and Devils play Wednesday.

The Rangers and Islanders are out of town Friday.

No conflict with the Giants or Jets on Thursday.

GO TUSKERS ! They will be the 1st UFL Champions

Meh, they had no way to know the Yanks would be hosting a World Series game there on that night...

Let them play in the parking lot of the yankees game as a side show entertainment.

Ow look, loseman threw a touch down to the beer man.

Hey the UFL is on the come up, just as soon as they move the season to the beginning of March and last through August! but watch with the right marketing tools the UFL can be the Canadian League of the U.S.!! I was Canada this past July when the CFL season started, and fans in Canada would rather watch or go to a CFL game than an NFL game!! its crazy

Yeah, there was no way that they could know that a Yankees/Phils game could happen - same way the NFL couldn't have known that when they switched the Eagles/Giants game two weeks ago. Dopes.

Actually, all the Yankees fans will be better off if they watch the UFL. Less crying for them that way.

Latrell - congrats on being Canada.

WOW, it's amazing. The Redskins will have the same problem tonight at FedEx Field. The Southern MD Redskins Pop Warner Football Team plays host to the Bowie, MD Tigers. Looks like the Washington Redskins will take a serious hit from an attendance perspective.

the thing is many of us couldn't care less about baseball. i'd watch a UFL game any day of the week over even World Series games.

it all depends on who your market is. I can't imagine everyone in NY likes baseball. and don't forget about Mets fans. ;)

I think the UFL should be chastised for horrible marketing though. as another poster said, i only hear about the UFL on this site. they need to work on getting on a major network and/or at least having ad spots up during NFL games or something. right now no one knows about it.

A lot of baseball hate here on PFT (from the top down), but does anyone know what the ratings were last night for Cards/Giants vs. Angels-Yankees? I don't know, but I'm guessing baseball had more viewers, at least in NY.

The only way you'd get me to go is to gather up a bunch of clowns with a free ticket who need an extra guy to bare-chested spell S-E-N-T-I-N-E-L-S or perhaps R-E-D-W-O-O-D-S in the upper deck.

But, they'd have to ask me nicely (and properly thank me later). I'd be obligated to "support the team" - high-five.
