Buccaneer busted for DUI

The Buccaneers have returned from London, and they’ve started into their bye week.

One of them was so happy to be home that he partied like it’s 0.1999.  Allegedly.
Buccaneers guard Marcus Johnson has been arrested for DUI, after being discovered asleep at the wheel.  In the middle of an intersection.
(We think they call that “passed out.”)
Per the Tampa Police Department’s web site, authorities “noted clues of impairment including a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage from the defendant’s mouth, bloodshot/glassy eyes, and a noticeable sway upon standing unsupported.”  Johnson then demonstrated “numerous clues of impairment” during field sobriety exercises.
But he was sufficiently sober to realize that he should refuse to submit to breath testing.  (Now that we think about it, the willingness of a guy who seems to be drunk to submit to a breath test should also count as evidence of mental impairment.)
Johnson entered the league as a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2005, and he signed with Tampa in the offseason as a free agent.  He has appeared in six games this year, with no starts.

Who can blame him. With this team, I’d be drinking heavily too.

  2. ThomasGemkow says: Oct 27, 2009 10:34 AM

Cut him. He is a low potential back up. We don’t need any further distraction. This…is a joke.

  3. BleedGreen says: Oct 27, 2009 10:36 AM

Being on the Bucs is enough to drive a person to drink. Maybe he was hoping to get cut for being a drunk… but then he realized they still have Jehramy Stevens on the roster.

If I was on that team I would drink TOO !

  6. Adam-Chris Scheftersen says: Oct 27, 2009 10:42 AM

The Packers should trade for him. If he can stop people while passed out, imagine how well he could stop them while trying.

  7. PervyHarvin says: Oct 27, 2009 10:45 AM

I’m really shocked Florio!! Hard to believe anyone that came from the Vikings would get in trouble. He surely didn’t drink while in MN.

    Another Tampa turd.
    Where have gone Mr. Dungy?

A more fitting title would have been “Buccaneer arrest exemplifies their season to date.”
I have tried supporting and defending my Bucs on this site but thats just too damn hard. Things are real bad in Tampa this year and it is frustrating to watch. Here is hoping to next year. Man I wish Lane Kiffin would get fired from Tennessee so we could bring back Monte as Head Coach. I miss you Monte.

If that ever happened to me I would just try to stay asleep and ignore the cops at all costs. Then they would have to call an ambulance and you wouldnt have to do all those tests.

When he was playing for the Vikings, it appeared that he was sleeping in the middle of games.
Can’t wait for Bob Nelson’s rant complete with Vikings 2005 draft statistics, DUI arrests of current and past players and Zygi Wilf’s infrequent visits to Minneapolis.

They will just poke you with a needle and get their results either way, breath or blood, why go through the hassle?

  13. Bob Nelson says: Oct 27, 2009 11:17 AM

2nd round pick of the vikings…..
He was picked after Troy Williamson and Easmus James and before Dustin Fox and Ciatrick Fason.
Some NFL fans say it takes a few years to determine the quality of a draft. Well it didn’t take that long for everyone to know the vikings drafted poorly as usual. Every pick was jettisoned within 3 years.
Well at least Johnson is still in the league.
Anybody want a job as a viking scout?

What would he be a distraction from? You mean if the team gets distracted they may play worst? Damn, its worst then I thought in Tampa.

Plenty of ways around this, squirt of pepper spray would be my choice, just a small squirt to wake you up.
Will draw blood at the hospital and you’ll have a guard at your door waiting for you to wake up.
Lawyers have already tried to find loopholes around DUI and the law came back with answers for everything. Have fun riding the bus.

In my state if you refuse a breathalyzer test you get an automatic suspension of your license for a year.

  17. Muck says: Oct 27, 2009 11:29 AM

This is the first time a Buccaneer has been found asleep at the wheel at an intersection since…..2007 (David Boston).
Also noteworthy: the arrest came right in front of Raymond James Stadium, which sits adjacent to team headquarters.

  18. gopher says: Oct 27, 2009 11:35 AM

The Vikings did cut those draft choices like Williamson, James and Fox but yet another team picked them up, so how good are their front office. I also think the last couple of drafts were not bad for the Vikings. I’m new to this web site posting but Mr. Nelson I would like to know which team you support.

    ********
    Easmus James? Try Erasmus James.
For someone who meticulously rips the Vikings, one would think that you would get the spelling correct – considering you bring it up weekly.
And just a reminder, moron, the 2005 front office of the Vikings is not around anymore.

    Bob,
As usual, you’re late to wake up (too much beer does that). The 2005 draft was Tice’s draft–very good position coach, cheap McCombs substitute for a real head coach. The current regime has an excellent track record of drafting and finding undrafted free agents–look it up when your headache subsides.
    gopher,
Bob is a Packer fan (you know they’re all glad to hear that).

Oh the jealousy of a Packer fan! Ted Thompson can’t draft. Chilly on the other hand……..
Adrian Peterson,Percy Harvin,Sidney Rice,Chad Greenway,Cedrick Griffin,Phil Loadholt…all drafted in the last 4 years. All starters. You make yourself look DUMB!!!!!!
Not to mention knowing when to scrap picks for the like of Jared Allen LOL

Gopher – Bob Nelson is an annoying Packer fan who resides in Minneapolis. Even Wisconsin doesn’t want him anymore. He repeats the same anti-Vikings venom daily on any post that is remotely linked to the Vikings or one of their former players.
He spews one-line paragraphs that contain half-truths and downright false rumors regarding Vikings fans, players, management and ownership. Mostly focusing on the past. He claims that the Vikings have never developed a good quarterback – completely ignoring Fran Tarkenton, because in his words – “Tarkenton only developed into a good quarterback after he was traded to the Giants.”
In Bob’s mind, all players must be good citizens. (He conveniently forgets about Mark Chmura and Mosey Cade – just two examples of not-so-good citizens that wore Packer uniforms.) He goes on about how the Vikings sign Packer rejects, but conveniently forgets about Koren Robinson – who, not only was a former Viking, but a not-so-good citizen.

    Guys:
I honestly think Bob is Florio in “disguise”.
I know it seems far fetched, but I wouldn’t put it past a website that relies on hits to make money, to do something like that.
It’s smart if it’s true, go on any thread, think of the biggest rival, and there will be a puke stirring shit.
I mean look how many responses the dufus gets .
We know Packer fans are not all that smart, but i have a hard time thinking this is anything but a ruse, no Packer fan can be that dumb, can they?

Bob Nelson is a douche bag. The Vikings have a darn good front office. I think you need to set the Captain Morgan down and start thinking clearly.
