Buccaneer busted for DUI

The Buccaneers have returned from London, and they’ve started into their bye week.

One of them was so happy to be home that he partied like it’s 0.1999. Allegedly.

Buccaneers guard Marcus Johnson has been arrested for DUI, after being discovered asleep at the wheel. In the middle of an intersection.

(We think they call that “passed out.”)

Per the Tampa Police Department’s web site, authorities “noted clues of impairment including a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage from the defendant’s mouth, bloodshot/glassy eyes, and a noticeable sway upon standing unsupported.” Johnson then demonstrated “numerous clues of impairment” during field sobriety exercises.

But he was sufficiently sober to realize that he should refuse to submit to breath testing. (Now that we think about it, the willingness of a guy who seems to be drunk to submit to a breath test should also count as evidence of mental impairment.)

Johnson entered the league as a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2005, and he signed with Tampa in the offseason as a free agent. He has appeared in six games this year, with no starts.
