Toward the end of Sunday’s home loss to Green Bay, Cleveland fans unhappy with the Browns’ effort were chanting, “Go, Pack, Go.”
And Browns receiver Josh Cribbs didn’t like it.
“It hurts,” Cribbs said, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer. ”I almost want to run up in the stands. That should never happen.”
He’s right. But those responsible for keeping it from happening are Cribbs and his coworkers.
When teams are consistently bad, the fans come up with creative ways to let their feelings on the situation be known.
And, frankly, we’d much rather see fans hurl shouts and insults than beer bottles and batteries.
“It hurts,” Cribbs said [about playing on a bad team], per the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I almost want to run up in the stands…and help cheer the Pack on because we blow.”
OK…this is a little stupid. I seriously doubt it was the Cleveland fans chanting “Go Pack Go”….it was the traveling Green Bay fans.
What they should be upset about, is the fans leaving early…but that happens in a blowout loss in almost every stadium.
Wow, He’s not very observative. The Browns fans weren’t chanting Go-Pack-Go….because we were gone by that point of the game…He apparently didn’t see the large groups of packers fans that were pretty much the only ones there in the 4th quarter.
Hate to break it to JC (who’s just about the only professional football player the Browns have right now), but those weren’t Browns’ fans doing the chanting. I was at the game, and there were Packer fans EVERYWHERE–the chanting was their doing. Cribbs is correct that is should never happen, because a team should never be so consistently awful that road teams are able to fill it’s stadium with their fans, or so pathetic that the home fans leave in droves in the third quarter because there is no hope for a victory, allowing visiting fans to be heard clearly. JC may want to take his concerns up with the guys around him in the locker room, the coaching staff, or the absentee owner–the fans are about the only thing this team has left.
Perhaps if team worked on not sucking. That might get he fans off their backs. Just a thought…
I was at the game and the chants were coming from the roughly 25-30% of fans who were Packers fans. By early in the 4th quarter, they were all that were left in the stadium.
Keep your head up Joshua, at least your team isnt winless.
Does he really think those were Browns fans?? Is he kidding? Um, Josh, those were the tens of thousands of Packer fans there. Lambeau II on Sunday.
If he is really unhappy in Cleveland then maybe he should pack his bags and move to Baltimore.
Oh wait…. never mind.
At a certain time, fans will turn on their team. They want them to get killed so every coach and player is fired and traded. Sounds like Browns fans may have reached their limit.
Just a little tip for you JC: We love you, but instead of running up into the stands and trying to change things, you need to run up into the clubhouse and change things.
Up to this point the fans have been honoring their side of the deal (buying tickets), it’s the team that has not been honoring their side (playing competitive, entertaining football).
The average fan cannot get the Plain Dealer to print what we say, so we must resort to other means. So far the team has not responded to our cheers or our boos. The next step is seeing if the team responds to our absence.
I drove to Cleveland this weekend with three friends, and I could not believe how many Packer fans were walking around Downtown on Saturday.
The game was full of Packer fans. I sat in the Dawg Pound, and even though the fans were pricks in the beginning, they quickly shut up as soon as their team started getting blown out.
There were fans leaving by Halftime because their team looked that bad. It was pathetic. It made me proud to be a Packer fan, seeing the following that the team brought with them.
I noticed that Cleveland’s favorite word to use is “asshole”. I was called that soo many times this weekend while we were tailgating.
Stay classy Cleveland!
At least you still have LeBron.
“He’s right. But those responsible for keeping it from happening are Cribbs and his coworkers.”
If by co-workers you mean Mangini, Lerner…and the rest of the coaching and executive staff then yes his co-workers are to blame. They front office continues to make bad personel decisions that have only served to set the Browns up for failure.
Good luck getting out of there Cribbs

Were you being an asshole? I’m not trying to be a prick.. It’s a serious question.
I went to a Packers/Bears game at Soldier field in 2000 wearing my Packers jersey. I cheered for the Packers, but didn’t get into it with the Bears fans around me or showboat when the Packers started pulling away. In short, I showed respect for the home team.
By contrast, there were four Packers fans seated a few rows ahead of us. In particular, one guy in a Chmura jersey acted like it was his job to be a prick. He did his job well. He stood up, faced the entire section behind him and signalled first down EVERY time the Packers got a first down. Needless to say, he didn’t witness the end of the game. He was escorted out by security with blood streaming down his face.
The Packers won and some idiots got what they had coming. All was right with the world.
LOL.. I was at that game. Josh buddy – like you, I’m stuck with the contract I signed with the Browns. My contract was for season tickets and I don’t like the situation either. I tried to sell my $75 ($225) choice seats (had 3) and was offered the TOTAL sum of $30 for all. The only thing dropping faster than my “investment” in the Browns is my loyalty as a fan. A 35 year fan and season ticket holder. And yes – I was there chanting “Brady Quinn”, “Mangini must go” and “Go Pack Go”.
The bar is very low in Cleveland to win the fans over. What have we ever seen accomplished? We even keep lowering ithat bar the Browns keep missing the bar. Strange/sad but true.
I almost wanted to run up into the stands . . . but then I realized those idiots are paying to watch DA give us the best chance to move the ball.
Hey Josh,
You could have heard a PIN DROP at Cleveland Browns Stadium last Sunday FROM BROWNS FANS. They had NO REASON to make any noise to drown out those Packer fans. How about getting your teammates to play with the same passion you play with…and give us something to cheer about. You’re from this area…I wish you would have ran up in the stands and take a look at a horrible team from the perspective we have. Maybe you can’t see it as well from the field.
Sincerely,
The Fans
The only thing Cribbs should be running up into the stands for is to kiss the fans for continuing to come so he can get paid his salary while the team is a black hole of suck on the field.
Insulting the majority of your customers is never good for business.
All the Packer fans that purchased tickets stayed the whole game and are paying part of Cribbs salary.
Selling tickets to out of state fans avoids blackouts and brings in revenue.
It is a nice way for fans to get back some money they wasted on Browns tickets and avoid picking up some nasty bacteria, fungus, or virus.

Since you are such a great Packer fan, Bob, why weren’t you in Cleveland?
It would have been nice if you had picked up some nasty bacteria, fungus or virus.
the browns- largely non-competitive in the superbowl era, and without a doubt the worst expansion team in recent years. some fans remain loyal, while others jump ship to the steelers (disgusting), almost all are dilusional, impatient, and fair-weathered.
the indians- I was at Jacob’s field during the height of the tribe in the 90′s. 460 some sell outs, it was awesome. two world series losses, a blown series in the alcs to the red sox, and two cy young winners playing for other teams in the world series later, “progressive” field is mostly empty.
the cavaliers- Swept by the spurs in the NBA finals, two straight exits in the semifinals
ohio state- football: back to back bcs nc losses, big game losses to usc, texas, usc again
basketball: loss in the national championship game to florida and vanished from sight.
the sports scene in ohio is grim. joe paterno would never have survived in columbus for the 168 years he’s been at penn state because if buckeye teams lose 5 games in a year, its time for a change.
imo, there is so much pressure on ohio state right now because all the other ohio sports teams are failing (i’m a bengals fan, they’re playing well now, but i’m cautious because they’re still the bengals). Fans just need to relax. did anyone really expect the browns to be good this year? sadly, they did.
Thank god the Cavs start tonight. The Browns just make Cleveland look so bad. We need someone talking about a Cleveland team as something other than a laughingstock. Go Cavs!
While Cribbs continually demonstrates his high ability on the field, he also continually demonstrates his high stupidity off the field.
First, he went to Kent State. I’m pretty sure you need a pulse to get in there.
Then, he signed a 6-year contract for peanuts.
Then, he said he would not suit up in the regular season.
Now, he is too dumb to realize that most of the stadium had seen enough of the blowout and left the stadium, leaving the many Pack fans to start chanting.
Josh, seriously, keep your mouth shut and your legs running.
I was at the Packers game in Kansas City on 11/04/07 and there were so many Packer fans there that late in the 4th quarter you could clearly here the Go Pack Go chant. Also I had recorded the game and when I got home I found out if I turned up the sound system you could hear the Go Pack Go chant on tv.
I’ll give Cribbs credit for this: He has played hard on a team that may very be the football equivalent 1962 Mets. If anyone on that team has earned a little room to bitch – it is Cribbs. I just hope that this isnt another Braylon Edwardsesque situation coming to a head. However, I do think that he is mistaken in his interpretation of events. I also believe the fans have every right to boo that team off the field when they play as putridly as they have this season.
The bottom line is that this is football and not basketball. You cannot win with 3 good players ( Cribbs, Thomas and Rogers). The team has played good in one game this year (Cincy). The “win” against Buffalo was a joke.
Alfred E. Penguini and the “usual gang of idiots”
have nine games and a bye week to get their act together. If they cannot even produce a four win season – they need to be shown the door and sent floating on a garbege barge down the Cuyahoga river.
Anderson needs to be yanked and benched. He simply does not have the chops to be a starter.
I also doubt that Brady Quinn is the second coming of Otto Graham (more than likely Tim Couch revisited) but he deserves a chance to play. You cannot justify benching him after two and a half games and say he has had a fair shake at the starting role. Especially in a season where you have nothing else to lose. I think every move that Penguini has made is questionable at best.
I doubt Quinn will see the field again barring injury to Anderson.

Not at all! We were wearing Packers jerseys while we were tailgating and weren’t talking smack to anyone, but there a lot of Cleveland fans walking by us calling us Assholes. We never said a word to them to deserve it, but I guess when you’re the guest, that’s what you get called.
I didn’t talk any smack until after we started blowing them out. As soon as I sat down in the dawg pound, there was a lady behind us who immediately got in our ears and talking a lot of shit. A female Packer fan was walking up the stairs in the stands, and the lady’s husband sitting behind us yelled out “whore” to her. There’s a point to when you gotta cut back on your smack talk. Nobody, except my ex girlfriend, deserves to be called a whore.
Sorry Cleveland for supporting my team. I’ll remember to remind you guys the next time Cleveland comes to Lambeau Field.
I was there and when the Pack came out of the tunnel, the cheers were really loud. There were a ton of Packers fans. In my section, the cheers of ‘Go, Pack, go!’ were countered by simultaneous cheers of ‘Go back home!’, ‘Go, Browns go’ and ‘Go, @#$%, go!’ I stayed for the whole thing, and the parking garage was 2/3 empty by the time I got there. Fans left in droves starting in the third quarter.
The greatest part about the game: Whenever center/guard Hank Fraley would be put in as an eligible receiver, some guys in my section would cheer wildly. I wanted him to get the ball once, just because it would have been hilarious.

As a native Clevelander and lifelong Browns fan myself, I’m sorry to hear you guys were treated so badly, if that was the case. That sort of treatment is to be reserved for Squeelers fans. I haven’t attended a game in a few years–but aside from Pittsburgh games, I don’t recall ever seeing any issues with visiting teams’ fans. Sounds like some jerks taking out their frustrations on the wrong people…
Bums me out that it was Green Bay, too… they’re my second team. I started following and cheering on the Packers after Modell screwed us in 1995.
Unfortunately, you may be waiting a long time for payback… until there’s a change in ownership in Cleveland, I can’t imagine many Browns fans traveling to Green Bay to watch this travesty of an organization get pummeled again…
As nearly everyone noted, very few think it was Browns fans chanting… the only ones who remained at the game were Packers fans.
So is it as insulting to the players to have Browns fans walk out on them in a blowout? Maybe, but if the players can’t stay in the game, they shouldn’t blame the fans.
Browns fans have been MORE than patient with an incompetent owner and incompetent coach. Players shouldn’t fault them for venting even if they were booing or cheering the other team. They deserve it.
Right or wrong, Cleveland just ran their best player out of town.
He was probably 90% gone before getting his feelings hurt, but now you can lock it up.
I expected people to talk smack while sitting in the dawg pound, but not while we’re hanging out in the parking lot tailgating.
I don’t think this reflects on the entire city of Cleveland. Every city has a few jag-off’s.
I told them I can understand their frustrations. I just kept telling the Browns fans to give it some time. It will eventually turn itself around. But I can tell you one thing…Mangini is NOT the answer. Worst off season hiring of any team. He never proved anything in NY.
I told the Cleveland fans that I wish them good luck the rest of the year, just not week 7. I’ll be ruiting for you guys to get better.
I am not looking forward to seeing how many Steeler fans will take over the stadium here in a few weeks. We cannot let it be like the Bengal fans did in old Riverfront
Buck up Emoney!! It’s the NFL. Anywhere you go, your’re gonna have that problem. I went to the Browns vs Bills monday night game last season and was harrassed terribly. I had full length sausages thrown at me. Who does that? So my point is, just maintain your integrity as a FAN and don’t copy what other bad fans do!

Agree about Mangini. Disagree about it turning itself around.
With The Randolph being just 47 yrs old, I’m guesstimating we have a minimum of 20 years of mismanagement and ineptitude to look forward to. The worse the situation gets, the more he digs his heels in, determined to prove that he’s smarter than everyone else.
He’s already making Mike Brown look good, and once Al Davis leaves us, The Randolph should have the cellar all to himself.
And that’s a shame… by all accounts, he’s a genuinely nice guy who loves the Browns and feels a real duty to his late father to carry on the tradition. And in some ways, that’s evident… e.g., Cleveland Browns Stadium not selling out corporate naming rights. Unfortunately, he’s just not very smart, and has been fortunate to have everything handed to him… from his ivy league education, his MBNA stock, board of directors position, to billionaire heir of the former Browns owner.
Best I can tell, he’s never had to succeed at anything on his own, it was always daddy’s labors that benefited him. With one exception: Aston Villa, where he hired qualified futbol execs to run the organization for him–a strategy that he has stubbornly refused to implement in the NFL, instead having everyone report to him, the absentee owner who lives in NY, spends his time in England, and admits he’s not a football guy.
Many more dark days ahead, fellow Browns fans…
Well either way, the Browns do have a nice stadium and a nice city.
The giant banner of Lebron on one of the downtown buildings was pretty cool too.
A Browns player upset with the Browns fans is only fair since I’m sure the Browns fans are upset with the Browns players.
He wanted to run up in the stands, I’m sure the fans want to run out on the field and help them, they could sure use it.
As much as ticket prices cost these days in this economy even if it was browns fans they should be able to enjoy the game any way they can, lords knows I can’t afford season tickets right now.
It probably will get worse before it gets better. Cribbs is a good player and he should not be surrounded by such a group of bad players, but he is . This is a bad team, maybe the worst in the league, the fans are going to show their displeasure.
Emoney, thanks for the comment a couple back! The Lebron thing is cool no matter how many times you pass by it.
Now, the problem is, we have very passionate fans. And we know football. So when our owner does not even care about his football team enough to attend games (he lives in England with his soccer team), the team has been PUTRID for now 11 years, there’s no hope in sight, and every game is over at halftime….people just get blind drunk and go to the game expecting to get blown off the field. And we do. And be greatful you probably never will have to go through it. Because it’s torture. 90% of Browns fans can draft better than these guys did last year. And 95% could draft better than the bozos that did it before that!
