Week Seven power rankings

1. New Orleans Saints (6-0) (Last week: 1). The road to the Super Bowl goes through the Superdome.

2. Indianapolis Colts (6-0) (Last week: 2). After two straight bye weeks, the Colts get three straight home games.

3. Denver Broncos (6-0) (Last week: 5). "If the Broncos win one more, then they're for real."

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) (Last week: 6). Jeff Reed's beer muscles will come in handy next year, when he's working at a bar.

5. New England Patriots (5-2) (Last week: 7). In their bye week, the Pats are still good for at least 30 points.

6. Minnesota Vikings (6-1) (Last week: 3). If Brett Favre wins at Lambeau, it might be the last time he ever sets foot in that stadium. (Unless he plays for the Vikings again next year.)

7. Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) (Last week: 9). "If the Bengals win one more, then they're for real."

8. New York Giants (5-2) (Last week: 4). "If the Giants lose one more, then they're not for real."

9. Philadelphia Eagles (3-2) (Last week: 11). During Monday night's pregame, receiver DeSean Jackson inadvertently paid homage to Ralph Wiggum by uttering the word "unpossible." (ESPN already has offered Jackson a post-football job as an analyst.)

10. Green Bay Packers (4-2) (Last week: 12). Nothing makes a bad offensive line look better than playing a bad defense.

11. Dallas Cowboys (4-2) (Last week: 15). Maybe after the season the Lions will offer the Cowboys a first-round pick, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick for Miles Austin.

12. Arizona Cardinals (4-2) (Last week: 16). The Cardinals have won three in a row, and only one of the defeated teams was from the NFC West.

13. Baltimore Ravens (3-3) (Last week: 13). "Thanks for nothin', NFC North."

14. Atlanta Falcons (4-2) (Last week: 8). Michael Turner won't have to worry about being overlooked for MVP consideration this year.

15. Houston Texans (4-3) (Last week: 17). If they make the playoffs, there will be no more dangerous team than the Texans.

16. New York Jets (4-3) (Last week: 19). The "Sanchize" is a hot dog that falls apart after three bites. (Yeah, we used it yesterday. Sue us.)

17. Chicago Bears (3-3) (Last week: 10). Maybe the original Coach Teflon (Mike Shanahan) will be replacing the new Coach Teflon (Lovie Smith).

18. San Francisco 49ers (3-3) (Last week: 14). The return of Alex Smith means that it's one big step closer to the arrival of the Nate Davis era.

19. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) (Last week: 20). Getting to 4-3 will be a lot easier if they'll be facing Vince Young instead of Kerry Collins on Sunday in Tennessee.

20. San Diego Chargers (3-3) (Last week: 21). That 30-point win over the Chiefs means the Chargers have no excuses for continuing to hover around .500.

21. Miami Dolphins (2-4) (Last week: 18). With trips to New York and New England on tap, it might be over before the middle of November.

22. Buffalo Bills (3-4) (Last week: 24). The appropriate saying before each 2009 Bills game is, "May the best team find a way to blow it."

23. Seattle Seahawks (2-4) (Last week: 23). The Seahawks are in great position . . . to watch the Cardinals and 49ers battle for the NFC West title.

24. Carolina Panthers (2-4) (Last week: 22). By next year, Bill Cowher's spittle will contain tobacco juice.

25.  Oakland Raiders (2-5) (Last week: 25). Hey, Richard Seymour. Will you be guaranteeing a Super Bowl win next?

26. Kansas City Chiefs (1-6) (Last week: 26). Running back Larry Johnson's next line of defense? "I was commemorating the annual London game by using their term for cigarettes."

27. Detroit Lions (1-5) (Last week: 28). Only in this anti-parity year could the Lions rise by not playing.

28. Washington Redskins (2-5) (Last week: 27). Is it just us, or is Matt Millen the last person who should be talking about the Redskins' struggles?

29. Cleveland Browns (1-6) (Last week: 29). The players had the flu, and the fans have nausea.

30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7) (Last week: 30). With seven points, at least the Bucs scored more on Sunday than Man U.

31. St. Louis Rams (0-7) (Last week: 31). Lose on Sunday at Detroit, and 0-16 could be a reality.

32. Tennessee Titans (0-6) (Last week: 32). Colts coach Jim Caldwell wore a Jeff Fisher mustache this week because, as Caldwell explained, "I wanted to feel like a porn star."

Actually, you should have about 6 teams tied for #32 - Browns, Bucs, Rams, Titans, Chefs, and Raidahs. Even the teams with wins coulda lost those games.

  2. BEAR-A-HOLIC says: October 27, 2009 8:43 AM

The Bears are too high, you'll see after this weekend when the Browns kick ass...time for Lovie to go, and take your friends with you !

I think Cleveland should be #36 behind Florida, Alabama, USC, and Boise State. Worst team in the NFL and no hope coming anytime soon.

  5. this class sucks says: October 27, 2009 8:47 AM

I don't know how the Titans are worse than the Rams or the Bucs but I guess who ever is lucky enough to get that first overall pick can get a chance at Bradford now. I think the Cowboys are a tad high and the Texans are a tad low. And idk how the Florio power rankings work but do are you saying that the Pats would beat the Vikings head to head? Bad as their secondary might be its not worse than the Pats run defense. Although it could be a contest as to which quarter back will get injured first and them subsequently praised for being competitive.

That was painful to watch and I was even embarrassed for Jackson, seeing how arrogant he is. "When I got the ball, I'm explosive and you're gonna see something unbelieveable." "I'm so fast, I'm like the wind, you know?"

    What a douche.

That's sad. A team has to go nearly half way through the season undefeated to be considered "for real". Let me ask you a question, did they beat the "world's greatest team" (Patriots) and the team that was supposed to have a cake walk to the AFC west title (Chargers)?

God help them if they happen to lose 1 game. You'll probably put them back in the mid-teens. You know what, go ahead and do it. If there's anything better than winning, it's proving idiots like you wrong!

You know when the Favre chase was going on I visited this site daily to get the latest word. After weeks of visiting the site and observing the columnists on this site I am absolutely stunned and in complete wonder to why this site is as popular as it is.

All NFL experts are nothing but people with opinions. Difference is some are more intelligent, more credible, accurate and make sense in their opinions. The people who write on this site are absolute dip shits.

You make countless mistakes in your stories, you are in accurate and you are biased. This in my opinion is the most overrated website in existence.

  12. sand0 says: October 27, 2009 9:56 AM

Not to be a whiner or anything, but I don't really see why the Steelers being mostly outplayed at home by the Vikings and winning on a couple fluky plays would vault them up that many spots. Vikings should go down a spot or two naturally but what did the Steelers really do other than get somewhat dominated at home and win ugly on some flukes?

I think "The Mission Miami" didn't like the way his Phins dropped in the rankings. Since many of the players read the site, I guess Florio is doing something right...most of the time.

PFT is a great site, and I have a hard time reading it on the sneak at work without busting out laughing. Great comments, funny banter and volleying, and some good smack talk. !!!

    I fixed it for ya.

@ 'Mission Miami" -Get off the gas. You should work for the government the way you over analyze everything. If nothing else its a place for fans of the game to leave their opionions about whats going on in the league and get on Florio about being just as ridiculous as we are.

Now to you Florio, man, HOW ARE YOU GONNA DO MY COWBOYS LIKE THAT?

If we took an L Sunday you all would be screaming about how terrible we are and kicking us like you and the rest of America love to do. Instead we handled a good offense, forced plenty of turnovers and scored relentlessly on a less than average but still decent defense. And you put the Eagles ahead of us, who lost to arguably the worst team in the league and only won by ten over the Redskins? And all the while still slurping on the Giants?

But then again, leave us under the radar please sir. I'm not used to it but liking it more and more every Sunday.

one more thing @ DonTerreli- whats wrong with Mr. Jackson talking a little noise, he is one of the fastest players in the league. Let us not forget the players make the game and if they arent exciting us then what will. I think youre the douche. The same douche who probably didnt want him to dance in the endzone either. Its people like you who make this the No Fun League.

Now Florio is horendous at the football side of the thing, but I will at least give him props on the business aspect.

Reading Florios predictions, not only about the superbowl, but even on where players will end up in the offseason followed by why he thinks it makes sense, make him at least funny enough to read.

You regurgitate the news at me in an easy to read enjoyable format (before my page started refreshing automaticly)

I actually have a problem with this power ranking. Your going to put the steelers ahead of the vikings? Why because they won, ok then in that case the Bengals have to go ahead of the steelers for the number 4 spot.
The top 3 are fine but vikes need to be 4 then steelers, then new england, you dont drop MN to 6 with a 6-1 record "s-tupid".
I hate greenbay but they need to go to the 8th spot ahead of new york and philly, new york then drops to 9, and cowboys at 10, while philly is 11.
    But Vikes are 4th....

  25. GoBrowns19 says: October 27, 2009 10:59 AM

For the fans of the three teams below the Browns...what the hell is going on there? Watching the Browns is absolute torture, and you're telling me there are three worse teams? I don't buy it. Either one of those teams would crush the Browns. We just aren't a legitimate NFL team. Basically the Browns are an expansion team again. You telling me Chris Johnson wouldn't have 225 yards and 3 td's against the Browns D?

  26. Rickah99 says: October 27, 2009 11:00 AM

Prior to this week's game, who has Dallas beaten that's considered a good team? Tampa, Carolina, KC?? All close games I might add! Whereas Philly had crushed all those teams and had each game in the bag by halftime! Thank you!
It's a safe bet Rom-O-Choke soils his pants when he sees the Philly D hitting him from all directions! Dallas has not been impressive this year, even against very beatable teams!
Face it Dallas fanboy, Philly has had MUCH more success over the last 10 years than Dallas.
But Rom-O-Choke should get that highly sought after Pass Attempts record....WOOOHOOO!!!

If you're going to reside in the past, please stay there and go away!
The NFL(NOT FOR LONG) is all about today, this game, this season, what can you do for me now!
Over the last 1 year, 2 years, 5 years Philly has outperformed Dallas in: Drats, Trades, and on field production!
Until this year, we also had a better stadium! Dallas over the last 10 years has led in, basically, one thing: Bad Publicity! (T.O., Tank, Pacman, etc etc)
Can't wait for the game in two weeks!

    Past 10 years.....NOTHING.

    Past 20 years....NOTHING.

    Past 30 years....NOTHING.

    Need I go on?

The standard in this league is rings. We have 5. You have none. Even the Bucs, Rams, and Chiefs at least have 1. Hang your head on whatever you want but in the end, this is the only stat that matters. So be sure to pay homage to the STAR when you see it.

Fluky plays? Do you mean how the Steelers forced a turnover by getting to Favre, knocking the ball from his hands and scooping it up, running the length of the field for a score while accompanied by a cadre of teammates in concerted team effort?

Or are you talking about how Mendenahll dropped the ball on the 5, virtually untouched?

    Which was more flukey????

Now Bezee23, if Philly has done nothing in 10yrs...what has Dallas done in that span? LESS than nothing??

As for other Philly teams....my bad, I believe we will be playing Game #1 of the WORLD SERIES tomorrow, TO DEFEND OUR TITLE!!
The Flyers are always in the playoff mix each year...how about the Dallas Stars??

At four, Pittsburgh (5-2) is a full three spots ahead of Cincinnati (5-2). The Bengals' competition has a combined record of 26-19, better than Pittsburgh's at 19-26. The Bengals' two losses have come against opponents with better records, 10-3 as opposed to 8-5. The Bengals have held opponents to fewer points than the Steelers, and trail the Steelers in total points by just four despite facing the better competition. However, the most glaring evidence of Cincinnati being a better team is that Cincinnati BEAT the Steelers. Despite all this, you rank the Steelers ahead of Cincinnati. Why?

There is still a lot of football left to play, but as absolutely weird as this sounds (putting "Saints" and "Greatness" in the same sentence), sooner or later we are all going to have to admit that the New Orleans Saints are looking like one of the great teams of all times. I know, it just doesn't sound right. But.......

So it would appear that you've got the Saints by themselves, with the Colts quietly at a very close second - or maybe the Broncos.

Then you've got 3 really good teams like the Vikings, Pats, & Steelers.

Then you've got about 10 teams like the Eagles, Cowboys, Falcons, Packers, Bengals, Giants, etc. who might make it into the playoffs.

Then its everybody else, with the dreggs at the very bottom like the Rams, Raiders, etc.

WOW!!!! I come back to my pc eager to hear the stupidity of Eagles fans who have the I.Q.'s of stillborn babies and they dont dissappoint! I almost fell out of my chair laughing at these clowns...now to the both of you....

@Rickah99- Wow talk about strolling down memory lane???? Im not sure John McCain would even remember those titles. Before the Superbowl Era?? Did you really just say '48, '49 and '60? Are you serious??? Did they even declare champions back then?
Were blacks even allowed to play? Wow you took me way back with that one. And uhhh I'm glad you feel good about your second straight world series berth but did I get lost? This is PFT not MLBT, NBAT or wherever else the pansies are. So if thats what you want to discuss...I will no longer waste time with you. Your section is two or 3 links away with the other fellas pulling skirts down. Get out of here. You lost all credibility with that one.

@HughJassPhd- You have 3? Really? Wow I wouldnt have known that. Seeing as they were in '48, '49, and '60 when there probably wasnt but 6 teams in the league and the term 'Superbowl' hadnt even been coined.

Did the nursing home let out early? Because you and your Geriatric homies up there wearing depends may be the only ones in America who remember those. Then again even they probably think youre lame for bringing that up. And for your info I do respect the STEELERS because they have one more than us. Hate to break it to you but thats the standard. But you wouldnt know that cause youre without one.

yo, pitbullmama, just a shout out; interesting, isn't it, how the broncos have won games that they weren't "supposed" to win. i'm really feeling you on that. it seems that mr. florio is spouting the same mantra that i've been hearing from the beginning- if the broncos win another one, then they're for real. give me a break!! who do they have to beat up on before they're considered to be "for real"? at least there are people out there who live in the "real" world, like my man monkeygoalie. even opinionated fool sees the truth and he's an avowed bronco hater. not only do the broncos win, but they make teams (good teams; cincinnati, dallas, new england, san diego) disappear in the second half. i guess len dawson will one day soon wake up in the "real" world after my "donkeys" beat up on the celebrated world champion pittsburgh steelers on monday night. we beat cincinnati, let the steelers do that first before unloading your crappy drivel against a better team!! can't wait for the game either. i also can't wait to see your post afterwards. i'm sure that we'll hear you flapping your lips with the same 'ol tired song...... if the broncos win another one, then they're for "real"!!

  57. goodcall says: October 27, 2009 4:53 PM

I am a lifelong Browns fan but they suck bad this year. They have about the same number of wins as when they were gone for three years and their offense is about as productive. If not for Cribbs they might not ever score. But the Clowns will win another one or two and blow their chances for a high pick which they will squander on some loser and then trade off their best players for more losers. The new guys will fit in the system just fine as losers. I do like their helmets still (on a positive note).

  58. Cincybearcatfan says: October 27, 2009 5:30 PM

Someone PLEASE tell me why everyone seems to classify the Steelers as a "GREAT" team? I glad that the NFL doesn't use the same system as the BCS. It seems that what happens on the field matters less than what people think. FACT: The Bengals beat the Steelers HEAD TO HEAD. FACT: The Bengals gave an A * * whoopin the the Bears who BEAT THE STEELERS. Where is the respect? Oh wait, I'd say it will come AFTER the Bengals beat Pittsburgh on 11-15-09 in Pittsburgh. But, nah, why say something that will disrupt your fantasies? Morons.

  59. realityhater says: October 27, 2009 6:08 PM

    Cincybearcatfan...are you really that stupid?
So by your logic, the Bills are better than the Patriots, right? Because the Pats lost to the Jets and the Jets lost to the Bills.

Just wait and see when the Bungles show their true selves. Marvin Lewis is a failure and should have been fired years ago.

  60. steeltownpride says: October 27, 2009 7:35 PM

God i love it lol ...................... Allow me to retort ?

Bronco's fans please keep up your hype that Denver is going to lay the smack down on the Steelers on MNF . First remember that you play the Ravens this weekend first . Then move on to the Steelers . We can smack talk next week ok sweeties ?

Bengals fans !!!!!!!!!!!! Why are the Steelers higher than you ? Common sense . Yes you beat the Steelers in Cincy this season . Congrats . Im glad that you won your Superbowl for the season . To bad its a 16 game schedule plus playoffs . Blitzinnatti will soon come crashing down . Kisses

To the Eagles fans that are morons . NFL championships went out with the AFL-NFL Merger ok ? Those are nice to remember and make you feel warm and fuzzy since you cant win a Superbowl . Clevelands has a few NFL championships more than U and they never bring them up . So why do you ? Thats what LOSERS do Philly .

  61. ccrider says: October 27, 2009 7:38 PM

Why do they let a proven loser like Matt Millen on ESPN? he used to be a good analysts but is not any longer.

  62. red_dog says: October 27, 2009 8:03 PM

I disagree with your ranking of Indy. They still have yet to play a team that is any good. Hell they barely beat the Jags or the Fins. If they win against a good team then I will say they deserve their ranking.

As far as the Vikes losing to Pitt, it was the Vikes that lost, not Pitt beating them. It would have been a different game if the ref would not have robbed them of their touchdown with the bullsh*t tripping call. Granted they got lucky against the Bills, and should have lost that game.

  63. realityhater says: October 27, 2009 9:21 PM

red_dog: I'll give you the bullsh*t tripping call if you give me the bullsh*t offensive pass interference call against Heath Miller that took away our Holmes touchdown. We were robbed too. Both were technically accurate calls, although both could be classified as "iffy".

Justify the win however you want, Steelers still beat the Vikings. Why is it my problem that our defense beat your offense and you don't consider that our win?

    "blablabla"

Vikes dominated most every statistical catergory. Even the Steelers coach and most of the Vikings players said the Steelers were lucky.

Mendenhall's fumble was bad but it wasn't returned 95 yards for a score. Steelers had more balls batted in the air than the Vikings yet were the only ones luck enough to have one fall in their lap, for a TD no less to save the game for them.

The Favre strip TD was a nice play but Big Ben had one too and lucky for the Steelers it wasn't returned. Heck, it wasn't even recovered. Plus the Vikings scored a TD 3 plays earlier that was called back on a phantom call that even the officials have come out and appoligized for.

So yes, the Steelers were mostly dominated and won on some fluky plays. Even the Steelers coach admitted it so really it isn't even a debate.

Sure, AP was held under 100 yards rushing but he had a 3.8 yd/carry average which is average for a lot of backs and he had 60 yards receiving plus a 3rd and goal rushing TD.

That is a mute point anyways. Green Bay "shut down AP" also earlier this year and the Vikings still smoked them. Then again, they only had one fluky fumble return TD...

Just saying, Vikings were clearly and obviously the better looking team in the game. Everyone but Steelers or Packers fans would see that easily. Even their coach and some of their players openly admitted it.

  70. davidmp2 says: October 28, 2009 10:30 AM

Laxer37 - Actually, by my logic, the Texans would still rank below Cincinnati because the Texans at 4-3 have one more loss than the Bengals.

Cincinnati and Pittsburgh have identical records. Thereby making the comparison I made far more appropriate.

Of the 5-2 teams, nobody has played a more difficult schedule than Cincinnati to this point. Cincinnati's opponents are a combined 26-19 which is heads and shoulders above the competition of the Steelers (19-26), Giants (19-27) and Patriots (20-25).

Of the four 5-2 teams, I'd rank them
    5. Cincinnati
    6. New England
    7. New York
    8. Pittsburgh

The reason I bump New York ahead of Pittsburgh despite the half game difference in opponents schedule is because New York lost to better competition than Pittsburgh, 10-2 as opposed to 8-5 respectively.

  71. shaunypoo says: October 28, 2009 11:11 AM

I don't see how Cincinnati is not higher either. They beat teams that are currently ranked 4, 10, and 13, and lost to the #3 and #15 team.

  72. Anebriated says: October 28, 2009 11:18 AM

Alright... as a diehard Eagles fan I would say they are maybe 4-5 spots too high currently. Their offense hasnt been consistant throughout the season to date and its because of the struggling OLine. Whatever that can change and when it does I look forward to seeing the results.

As far as the Dallas fans trashing Philly....Pick your arguments carefully here. I know we havent won a "superbowl" but we have seen great success in the postseason over the past 10 years that your Cowboys have watched on TV. Seriously if we are going to discredit past achievements then say bye-bye to your rings argument and tell me what have you done lately?

  73. Snitchin' Bubs says: October 28, 2009 1:53 PM

I am a Steelers fan, but I think Cincy should be ranked higher than Pittsburgh by virtue of their head-to-head win. Who cares if the Steelers *should have* won that game. They didn't. That's all that matters. It is either W or L ... there are no moral victories. There is no solace in playing better than your opponent yet still losing.

All that said, who cares where teams are ranked after week 7?

  74. DENNIS FRANK says: October 28, 2009 7:10 PM

to steeltown pride....."sweety?"........"kisses?"....first time i've ever heard those terms used in relation to N.F.L. football!! you put us down ever so "sweetly". or were you just condescending? i stand corrected, though. bad move overlooking the ravens....loved your post. still doubt if the steelers will be able to beat us on MNF, at altitude. your boys better do what they can in the first half... because the second half belongs to us!!

  75. Wally_Wizall says: October 28, 2009 11:38 PM

Can't wait to see the Vikes destroy the Pack at Lambeau on Sunday. That packers O-line is pathetic and they have beat the Browns, Rams, Lions, and Bears. All pathetic teams!

    Vikes win in a blowout!

  76. packers4life says: October 31, 2009 3:15 AM

    "Browns, Rams, Lions, and Bears"

The Vikings beat the Browns, Lions and Rams too moron so how does that make them that much better then the Packers?

    "Vikes win in a blowout!"

Typical Viking fan thinking he knows football when he actually doesn't.
