Cotchery looks "sharp" in return to practice

Ted Ginn may not be prominently involved in this Sunday’s game at the Meadowlands, but things are looking up for one receiver known for making tough catches, rather than dropping easy ones.

Jets wideout Jerricho Cotchery returned to practice in a limited fashion.  He’s missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, but reportedly “looked sharp” in drills Wednesday. Jets coach Rex Ryan has previously expressed confidence that Cotchery will play this week.

Cotchery’s presence may be even more crucial because fellow wideout David Clowney missed practice with a knee injury. Guard Brandon Moore and cornerback Lito Sheppard were also out.

For the Dolphins, Ryan and Mike Florio’s favorite linebacker Channing Crowder did not practice because of a shoulder injury.

Sunday marks a turning point game in Ryan’s season.  If New York loses again to Miami, the Jets will be 1-3 in the AFC East and two games behind New England in the loss column.  The best way to beat Miami is through the air, but Mark Sanchez has to prove that he’s up for it.  (And that he’s well nourished before the game.)

The game figures to be so close, I’m struggling to settle on a selection for my PFT picks, due tonight.  Perhaps the unbiased members of PFT Planet can chime in below with a little help.

The Dolphins will pound the ball right at the Jets’ “strength” and take an early lead. Sanchez will be forced to play catch-up the whole game, but the Dolphins won’t blow their clock-management this time like they did against the Saints.
    Dolphins 27 Jets 21
This is not coming from a Miami fan, just saying what I think will happen.

I would have to go with Miami here. reason being they just came off a tough loss at home and have a bad taste in their mouth. Sanchez can only hit a wide open receiver he has not proved he can make throws in tight spots. not only that but in the first matchup he got back in it with a few homerun balls and penalties that went the jets way. I would stick to miami and their running game, they have consistently put points and wont have to worry about the jets scoring 40. i say 27-17 Miami.
Do what you do tho Rosenthal but miami wins this one

    my humorous tongue-in-cheek prediction:
if Ted Ginn starts the game, we lose.
if he plays but doesn’t start, we win. :D

    Jets 20-16
they were embarrassed in Miami, I’m surprised Ryan hasn’t called the season ticket holders for support yet.

I hate the Jets but they will win this one, going away.

I think Miami is going to rock the Jets again. This time it might not be as close a contest.
Regarding Cotchery, since when does a hamstring heal in two weeks. He’s going to be strugg-ling (as Joe Namath would say).

I would go with the Jets to win. Because you dont pick against the spread.
In my pro-pick em league the Jets are giving the Dolphins 3 points and if the game ends in a tie the underdog gets the win so I picked the Dolphins b/c I believe its gonna be a close game with the Jets winning by a field goal. Which will be a tie against the spread and because the dolphins are the underdogs and I picked them with the 3 points Ill get the win.

    My prediction:
Ted Ginn and his family run out of bounds with every carry in order to to avoid contact.
Another TE pushes Gerbil Wilson around for about 50 yards and a score.
The wildcat stops working, but they keep playing it so Henne can come in cold on 3rd and 16 and try to convert.
Pat White comes in an runs the same option play for a loss of 2, then we never see him again.

florio has been supplying predicted scores.
he takes credit for calling the winners though.

What’s the weather going to be like? If it is not nice, then Miami because Sanchez struggled in bad weather, and because Miami is a strong running team and Jenkins is out. If it is nice weather, good luck with the call.

If the Jets can kill the cat the Dolphins are in for a long day. Take the cat out of that last game and the Fins stats go way down.

I’d go with Miami coming off a bad loss at home. Jets played last 2 games running the ball constantly, that won’t work well against Miami.
Unless Sanchez has a huge game Jets won’t win.
Haven’t been able to watch their last 2 games, any word on how Woodhead has been doing? Will they keep him on active roster with Washington out for the season?

  13. joey-pickles says: Oct 29, 2009 10:29 AM

Woodhead will remain in… maybe even at RB instead of WR.
    Jets 21 – Miami 17
Rex irons out the pass rush and stops blitzing from just one side of the line. Pace and Thomas lock down the edges, while Scott and Harris clog the middle. Revis, Rhodes and Leonard hold down the hot routes. The defensive line does its job with a consistent rotation at NT… look for multiple four down DT sets.
Jets say FK’M and run the ball on Miami with the fresh set of legs from Iowa. Sanchez will get a little help if JCo is back, but I wouldn’t look for much over 20 yrds unless the run really gets hot for the third week in a row.
Miami coming of the tough loss LOSES! Look people, a lose especially like Miami faced last week takes a lot out of a team. They probably didn’t even sober up until Tuesday after that one. Look for a lot of Wild Cat early on until the Phins fall behind. Then it will be all Henne with no place to go.
Miami D starting two rookie corners will have a ruff time dealing with the quick slant and quick outs that Schotty will be dialing in. I would thing the FS & SS will have to stay over the top all day to give the corners the safety net they need to be effective at the line. Look for the veteran Jets WR (Braylon, JCo) to run the quick routes for short to intermediate gains.
Special teams may play a field position factor but I wouldn’t expect much of a homerun threat from either side.
    NYJ 7-7-0-7: 21
    MIA 3-7-7-0: 17

Dude, were you watching the same game? Henne was like 20-24 245+ yards and I think 2 Tds.
I’m pretty sure that wasn’t part of the Wildcat.
Just another ignorant Jets’ fan that has no clue.

  15. texasPHINSfan says: Oct 29, 2009 12:14 PM

klecko – the offensive stats were way down because no one was catching balls last week.
now that ginn will be benched, and i’m SURE they ran catching drills to death this week, i don’t think you’ll have the benefit of that same problem.
more than likely you’ll see the same chad henne stats you saw several weeks ago.
the real question will be will henning NOT abandon the run this time, like he did in new orleans.

  16. klecko says: Oct 29, 2009 3:02 PM

The point I was making was this, If the Jets can cosistently kill the cat when it pops up the Jets defence will be playing differently. Don’t get me wrong I’m a jet fan from the late sixtes and not a rabid one, the Fins had the Jets “D” on the ropes on MNF. The DC and Ryan were both punch drunk and it showed on defence so my hat goes off to the fins. If we can’t stop it, keep doing it… My point was if the Jets have an answer for the cat they’ll be playing “D” a lot differently, this way we wont give Henne the time to look like Joe Montana
