Donte Whitner would welcome Ted Ginn to Buffalo

With all signs pointing to the gradual (if not faster) disappearance of receiver Ted Ginn from relevance, one of his former Ohio State teammates is more than willing to give him a new home.

Bills safety Donte Whitner, “retweeting” the headline to our story indicating that Ginn has been marginalized at practice, offers encouragement for Ginn.

[Push] through this bro!” Whitner says in his message.  “We’ll take u!”

In hindsight, the Dolphins apparently are wishing they never had.  Ginn’s name was called at a time when everyone expected the Dolphins to take quarterback Brady Quinn with the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft.  Lost in the aftermath of that Cam Cameron curveball is the fact that the Dolphins could have had linebacker Patrick Willis or cornerback Darrelle Revis instead of Ginn.

By all appearances, the Dolpins are in the process of removing him from their future plans.  And, at this point, he’ll save his position there only by making the most of his quickly fading opportunities.

Ohio State guys sticking together. That’s all it is.

  2. Zé says: Oct 28, 2009 3:28 PM

they went to high school together, along with Troy Smith

  3. BillsFan27 says: Oct 28, 2009 3:37 PM

Who’s to say Whitner is even going to be in Buffalo long-term?
With Bryan Scott better at stopping the run and Jairus Byrd developing as the ball-hawk that he is – Whitner could get relegated to a back-up role.
In that case, Ginn and Whitner might meet up again in the unemployment line together.

Not a surprise. Those two played together in high school and college.

  5. BillsFan27 says: Oct 28, 2009 3:43 PM

Yeah, that’s what Buffalo needs – one more underachieving WR to go along with the rest of the wideouts not named Lee Evans.

all ginn has to do is hold onto the ball its not that hard to figure his problem..Maybe Tedd should look in the mirror

Welcome to New England Mr. Ginn. We need a 3rd WR.

What isn’t Owens dropping enough in Buffalo?

How lame it is that any time a draft pick doesn’t work out, there’s always somebody who says, “Look who they could have drafted!”
We a need an official name for this, as in the likes of Godwin’s Law or Rule 34.

Welcome to Tampa Bay Mr. Ginn. We need a 1st WR.

I said it last year, I said it in the offseason, and I’ve been saying it all this season… Its time to part ways with Ginn. He’s small, weak, runs terrible routes, and leads the league in jumping out of bounds 1 yard short of the stick.
All those Ginn defenders are out of their mind. Does he have talent? Sure. In the right system he could prosper as the 2nd WR option and as a return specialist. But that cant happen in Miami. He’s got no confidence here and the Miami fans will never let him out of the dog house.
I would have loved to see them package Ginn and draft pick(s) for any one of: Boldin, Marshall, B. Edwards, Crabtree, etc.
But now it’s too late. Everyone knows Ginn sucks, everyone knows that Fins know he sucks, and we couldnt get squat for him. You’ll see when the season ends, they’ll cut him, he’ll sign with Baltimore and be reunited with Sham Cameron, D. Mason will retire, and Ginn will be Flacco’s deep threat while Clayton is the man.

While I generally agree with LightningLucci on the whole armchair quarterback thing with regards to the draft, my Raiders could’ve had Michael Frickin’ Crabtree instead of Darrius Heyward-BUST. Al Davis’ third consecutive top 10 bust pick.
    Raiderkarma.

I’m sure Donte would welcome Santonio Holmes also. He is so “Over” Rated”, just like every other Buckeye with the exception of Orlando Pace and Holmes.

I would LOVE to have Ted Ginn with the Redskins! He’s better than what we have as a #2 and way better on KR duty than Randle El.

“How lame it is that any time a draft pick doesn’t work out, there’s always somebody who says, “Look who they could have drafted!”"
Someone normally gets a pass on a failed draft pick if the player was perceived to be a can’t-miss talent and the pick was lauded as a good one at the time.
That’s why I don’t knock Matt Millen for taking Charles Rogers, who was seen as an elite WR when he picked him at #2 overall, as he didn’t have well-known injury or substance-abuse concerns coming out of Michigan State… just AFTER he ended up in Detroit.
Ted Ginn does NOT qualify, as this pick was second-guessed since the moment the name escaped the commissioner’s lips in New York.
Did you hear the response that Cam Cameron got from the crowd at the Dolphins’ draft party when he announced the pick? “Unhappy” would be an understatement. As such, Cam will get blasted for the end of time because the Ginn pick was one he lobbied hard for.

  17. Route36West says: Oct 28, 2009 4:36 PM

They would have been better off drafting alot of people instead of Ginn but Quinn probly isnt one of them. If any Qb they should of drafted that year it should have been Kevin Kolb. He’s the only qb from that draft class to show that he belongs in the NFL and might make something out of him self in the future. But hey atleast they were smart enough(praise Parcells) to go out and get Henne the next year and not put there faith in Beck. Henne might be someone in this league if Parcells can find some people to get open and catch his passes.

  18. VikingsFan23 says: Oct 28, 2009 4:54 PM

The Dolphins are still better off chosing Guinn than if they had chosen Quinn.
Missing on a first round quarterback sets you back 3 years or so, because of the investment of playing time you have to make in the guy. Missing on a first round WR doesn’t have to set you back at all. And, had they chosen Quinn, they wouldn’t have chosen Henne the next year.
So, while Guinn has been a big disappointment, if Quinn was their second choice, they got lucky.

  19. texasPHINSfan says: Oct 28, 2009 4:59 PM

the NFL should remove the trading deadline, or at least push it back until the end of the regular season. ;)

  20. texasPHINSfan says: Oct 28, 2009 5:18 PM

buffalo can have him. do they really need ANOTHER wide receiver that drops balls though?
Poor Edwards & Fitzpatrick, they just want guys who can catch.

  21. FinFan says: Oct 28, 2009 5:21 PM

They always knew he sucked, they tried shopping for Sinorice Rice a few months ago.
However! This Ginn experiment is OVER! Move on with the chains of victory and pickup a solid freeagent sitting at home twiddling his thumbs: Galloway, M.Booker, Matt Jones and Harrison are a few I can name.
I’m sure there are plenty more. At least you know these guys will move the chains unlike TED GONE

  22. KILLER FIN says: Oct 28, 2009 5:30 PM

Cameron should offer a deal to have Ginn back!!! As for Buffalo they could have Ginn in trade for Parish!!! it is ashame that the Dolphin brass can’t see who has been kicking our @sses for a long time & add them to the team as needed!!! GO FINS!!!

  23. tv says: Oct 28, 2009 5:31 PM

Maybe Ginn and Limas Sweed can go play for the “other” pro league. They can run all over the field really fast while dropping everything thrown their way.

  24. tleg81 says: Oct 28, 2009 6:18 PM

    @tv
Hilarious!!! That is so true, they are so good at getting open, then they break their fans hearts when they try to fight the ball…..They are both horrible wideouts in the NFL. They should tag along with TO and go to a league where dropped passes count for something. Maybe even Jamarcus Russell will join them, that way they will not have to worry about catching anything, they can just run around and get open and look real good doing it while their idiot QB just throws the ball away or to the other team!! HAHA

Lost in the aftermath of that Cam Cameron curveball is the fact that the Dolphins could have had linebacker Patrick Willis or cornerback Darrelle Revis instead of Ginn.
It wasn’t lost, it was just that none of the other journalists wanted to utilize the douchey, overused, lazy-football-writer’s tool of picking out some eventually great pro player from later in the draft and saying “they could have had him.” There are great players later in a draft after every bust! It is so cliche, it is beyond cliche.
I feel bad for every team that missed on a pick in 2001, because every sh-tty football scribe will automatically say that the team “…could have had Tom Brady”.

  26. the real deal says: Oct 28, 2009 11:54 PM

    Ginn is a pussy….cat

  27. BasicInstinct says: Oct 29, 2009 9:13 AM

Speaking of wussy, I wish the Falcons would send Michael Jenkins to Buffalo. That guy falls down if you talk to him rough. Drops, blown routes, the guy has a terrible case of Gonzalez envy.
Michael Jenkins and Ginn must have the same agent.
    Buckeyes in general suck too.

  28. overkil2 says: Oct 29, 2009 11:06 AM

Ginn is fast, but not quick. He can’t reach full speed unless he is running a post or go route and doesn’t get jammed.
He’s dropped a lot of balls and when he does catch the ball, he either hits the ground or runs out of bounds. He is SOFT.
He would not be a good 3rd receiver because those guys usually go over the middle and this guy is a pussy.
He wouldn’t make a good #1 receiver because he can’t catch for shit when needed.
Would he be ok at #2? Maybe if you have a good stud #1 and #3 ala N.E. Patriots.
I prefer a Devon Bess who is quick and creates separation early. He’ll catch the ball in traffic and battle forward to gain yardage.
Cam Cameron hosed us with this Ginn Pick. Ginn and his Family. The least they could do is have ginn’s mom bake us some cookies. That would be the most production that we would have out of anyone named Ginn.

  29. finsbooyah says: Oct 29, 2009 11:18 AM

Buffalo can have him. It’ll be one less player we have to game plan for twice a year

  30. Outfoxed says: Oct 30, 2009 9:13 AM

Put Teddy in full-time as punt and kick returner and see what happens. At least we would not put a starter in jeopardy of getting hurt in those roles. ala Bess
