Jack Yuenger first dubbed Green Bay "Titletown" after the team's 1961 NFL championship, a 37-0 triumph over the New York Giants. Yuenger, Green Bay Press-Gazette advertising manager, printed the city's new nickname on celebratory signs for fan distribution. The '61 title, the Packers' sixth of an NFL-record 12 world championships -- and first under Vince Lombardi -- was earned in Green Bay, the first championship game ever played in the city.
Jack was actually provided with a headline from the New York press, after reading that a "little town" was playing in the championship. He changed a few letters after the victory and the nickname stuck.
Everyone knows you can't make up your own nickname.
By the way...what kind of friends would call someone Chickenhead?

You know what I think is funny?
Is that Green bay got the nickname Titletown by having their own fans call it that.
Thank your ancestors for making you look stupid.
I know of no other person, outside of packer fans that call it that.
Green bay is a shithole. Where do you flush that town?

"That's what is so damn funny about you Green Gay Puker fans. You THINK you are such a storied franchise. You THINK you are the best fans known to mankind. You THINK that Green bay is Title Town. You THINK that you are a contender. You THINK the world should just bow down and hand you the freakin' trophy.
When in reality....
We KNOW that the franchise is in chaos. We KNOW that Pack fans are a bunch of over weight, beer drinking blowhards. We KNOW that the town hasn't seen a title since Tyson bit off Holyfield's freakin' ear. We KNOW that Ted Thompson won't ever deliver a trophy.
Chew on that Pack. Less calories."
Very, very mature.. How old are you? 5? 5 1/2? Either way you need to grow the hell up.

and when is the last time the Vikings won a title? Hmm? Oh yeah that's right, you never have. And at least the Packers have fans unlike the hyprocritcal bandwagoning, fairweather losers who know nothing about football that call themselves Viking fans.

Now that's a response I can respect. I can't deny that you guys are hardcore fans.
I'm no vegan. If it is true that the Chargers were named after the cedit card industry, I take back everything I said about the packers having a bad name. I'd much rather be known for packing meat than ripping off consumers with exorbitant interest rates and hiding the details in the fine print. That might be even worse than the Browns.

Gordon-
You're right. The Packers are all the city of Green Bay has to offer. There is nothing else to do, and nothing else we want to do. That's why we're the most loyal, most hardcore, and generally the best fans in the league.
How is meat packing a "horrid line of work"? Unless you're a vegan, you should realize someone has to do it.
It's not a bad idea to name a team after a local industry, like Steelers or Chargers (credit card company). There are also worse team names out there like Browns, and if nothing else, at least they don't wear gay pride purple uniforms. That would just be disgraceful.
As for Favre, he can do what he wants. MOST of us Pack fans don't care, it's just the loud and stupid ones that make the news.
I don't blame the team for letting him go either. It was Rodgers' time. Look at San Diego. Brees is putting the final touches on a HOF resume in Nawlins, but are they wishing they still had him? No, because now they're set for now AND for the future with a guy who is every bit as talented, just younger. It's the exact same with us. We won't argue that Brett is still a great QB, but we don't need him.
All you Viking fans can keep gloating that you have him, (even though you called him a washed up pick machine not long ago), and you may very likely win this weekend too, but we still won't care. When some defender out there ends Brett's career for him (it seems that's what it will take) you're back to either T Jackoff or some rookie, and still with no secondary or sane head coach. We're a couple of linemen and a safety away from being a perennial playoff contender. Even if you somehow win it all this year, I'd rather be in the position we are. Your eggs are in one basket. We're set for years to come.
Again though, not all Pack fans feel this way, just the civilized ones. Go ahead and rip apart everyone else like they rip apart #4 jerseys. The morons deserve it.

What is all this nonsense? Packer fans being pathetic...sad sad people. REALLY? We go to the games and are passionate about our team. Vikes fans dont even come close. You morons cant even sell out a playoff game. Nice stadium too....inflatable toilet with pipes in noise. Wow. That is funny.
It will be kinda sad though when the STL Rams move to the NFC North when a certain team heads to L.A....

Vikes fans dont even come close. You morons cant even sell out a playoff game. Nice stadium too….inflatable toilet with pipes in noise. Wow. That is funny.
It will be kinda sad though when the STL Rams move to the NFC North when a certain team heads to L.A….

Favre is an amazing athlete. He has made every team he's been a part of better - Packers, Jets, and now the Vikes. How many QBs could go in at the last minute, establish a rapport with their WRs, and go 6-0 out of the gate? Not many. The Packers went to the playoffs every year but one, I think, while he was there. He played with separated shoulders, broken bones, and many other ailments. Even played with a broken leg. He gave everything he had to the Packers, and he left it all on the field. They have no right to complain or boo now that he is with the Vikings. After all, it wasn't Brett who didn't want to play for the Pack; it was the Pack who booted him out. So, the Packers put themselves in this position. They kicked to the curb the guy who had done more for them than any player since Bart Starr. Brett has every right to play if he wants to play, and clearly he can still play. (Imagine how good he would be if he were still with the Packers, and throwing to WRs he'd played with for years!) The Packers have no one to blame but themselves for the fact that Brett is playing with their arch rival. He owes them no loyalty, since they didn't show any to him, when he had given them everything he had for so many years.
I can only hope Donald Driver moves to the Vikings when his time with the Pack is up!

@packer4life
Is it Aaron Rodgers? I guess I must have confused the spelling of her name. I thought Erin was the Packer's QB and Aaron was the ESPN reporter who had her privacy invaded. So confusing with these androgynous names. All I know is that she'll be on her back this weekend more often than your mom (which is saying a lot).
You make my point regarding the economic and cultural wasteland. Yes. You love your football team, and yes you have to wait 35 years to get tickets. That's my point. They are all you have to live for. In most cities with professional sports franchises, you don't need to wait 35 years for tickets because people have plenty of other things that they can do with their time. They can follow other local professional teams, go to a museum (a packer's museum doesn't count), take in a concert, go to a park, work in a building that is taller than two stories. Green Bay simply offers nothing but the Packers. How is the meat packing industry doing these days anyway? The town smells bad enough now. I can't imagine how it smelled back when people actually had jobs stuffing cow carcasses in boxes. And how could you have enough pride in that horrid line of work to name your team after it?

I guarantee you that Favre will not hesitate to say he is returning next year with the Vikings. He is having a great time right now, and he is on pace for the best season of his career. Its amazing that "washed up" ex GB players go on to have great seasons with the Vikings. Longwell, Sharper, and now Favre. Just goes to show that Minnesota is better then GB.

@ nerd- Well maybe Ted should have let Favre run the show. Where have you gone, drafted,or picked up for free agency since? The Pack is as big of a joke as you douches in the state that think Favre actually spends one second of the day remembering any of you! He feels like the kid that used to always get coal for xmas but now got the bike he always wanted because Zig isn't a cheap puke like Thompson. He is on a REAL team now.
@j4a1- LOL See what I mean?? You really think Favre gives a rats ass about hillbillys in WI? It's YOU that is so worried about how he feels when he comes there. He's a Vike now tool, could care less about his Pack reception. He is freakin Elvis too. Performing at a high level that gets your panties in a bunch! Go watch some more LMN sensitive Nancy.
@ Ambose - Call me when Aaron Rodgers is better than Favre. That means I'll never hear from you! Thank God!
@Purpleassisforu2kiss- You said it best.10000 Pukers burning the douches jersey.Singing Kumbaya and holding hands. I feel the pain of all you cupcakes. Need a tissue???
@ Dave the Douche- WTF??? Get your Subaru driving ,tree hugging ass back to the Seahawk thread(if their is one). This discussion is for REAL teams! Still picking up Midwest reject chicks that flee to Seattle? You said it tool, just wondering how it was going? Seatle fans are the "true chokers." On what? It rhymes with rock.
Can't wait to hear you whiners when Favre fails to mention anything Pack or WI after he torches you for a victory. Don't be looking for him to acknowledge you.It will be all things MN baby!

You Packer fans are sad sad people. Really! Bottom line is you all fell in love with YOUR Favre. Every time I went to lambeau for a game I could almost puke at the idolization of #4. BUT now he is gone!! AND YOU ARE ALL SCORNED LOVERS!!! YOUR Favre was NEVER in love with you! It's a game and it's a business. It is not a love affair. You will all eventually heal......LOL..........it just takes time. When he walks onto the tundra Sunday you will not know whether to cry or smile, boo or cheer. If you had half a brain you would give this man the standing ovation he deserves. But that will not happen because you are all jilted lovers. Like hating on the ex cause she left you for the better man down the street cause you wouldn't pay attention to her. Does that make her trash? Makes you an idiot! Favre belongs to another now. He was good for you when you had him. Use your brains and treat the man with respect. Thank him!

As far as fans of the Vikings being bandwagon jumpers, that might be the case for some. I have been a fan of the Vikings for 30 years and never jumped on and off any bandwagon.
The way Packers fans are going on and on about Favre is a joke. THE PACKERS NO LONGER WANTED HIM. Get over it. You have a good QB, so follow him and get over complaining about a QB you no longer wanted. Some of you Packer fans are the biggest babies in terms of a fan base.
Enjoy TT and MM. Maybe you should do come complaining about them.

@Dave The Dude
History doesn't mean a thing in professional sports. Look at how many times Denver lost in the Super Bowl before they won a couple. Teams change year to year. The average NFL career lasts three years. There is a huge amount or turnover between NFL teams. The Vikings (and just about every other NFL team) have different owners, different coaches and different rosters than they had a decade ago. It makes zero sense to say that a team that didn't live up to expectations in 1998 or 1976 is somehow forever tarnished as a choker, unless you really believe in curses, in which case you should be watching Ghost Hunters instead of sports.
