Fisher will unveil his quarterback on Thursday

Titans coach Jeff Fisher is expected to share with the media on Thursday the name of the quarterback who will get the nod on Sunday against the Jaguars.

The reason for the delay?  "Competitive advantages."

"I'm going to assume that as long as we can keep this thing a mystery the better chances we have.  There's clearly a difference in skill-sets between the two quarterbacks," Fisher said, per Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper.

Per McCormick, both Kerry Collins and Vince Young spent time working with the starting offense during practice on Wednesday.  Owner Bud Adams reportedly wants Young to replace Collins as the starter.

That said, linebacker Keith Bulluck seemed to let the cat out of the bag.

"I still have faith in Kerry Collins.  So that's our guy.  No one in this locker room, no one on this team said anything about that.  That call came from the head," Bulluck said.

Then again, it's unclear whether Fisher must honor the wishes of the owner.  Per a source with knowledge of the standard contents of NFL head-coaching contracts, owners typically don't have the ability to force lineup decisions onto the coaches.

Though refusal to do what the owner wants could get a coach fired, the question is whether he'd be entitled to ongoing salary.  If he violates his contract, he doesn't get paid.

Our guess?  It'll be Vince Young, but he'll be on a short leash.  At the first sign of trouble, Fisher will yank Young and go with Collins again.

Can we maybe expect J.D. Booy to take the job from Vince Young and Kerry Collins? haha.

Fisher pays a sly homage to the old master of "competetive advantage" Mangini.

Why NOT give Vince a shot? I mean, you haven't won a game yet!

What's he going to do? He's admittedly spoken at length about this to Adams. Both of them know that if they don't play VY that's more or less it for his future as QB in Nashville. And Adams wants to have faith in that decision so he'll want to see VY play. Fisher will have to play him at some point. I think, however, that Fisher just wants to be done with the whole situation. Enough's enough right? He's been head coach for a long time now and he's never really had full control of the roster. At what point will he be given this, and the requisite rebuilding time, if ever?

I don't understand the owner's obsession with Vince Young. Bottom line, he's a worse QB than Collins. And not very good on his own terms. The team won games when he started, but even then his numbers weren't very good, and he didn't improve. Which is why he was taken out to begin with--he played poorly and didn't improve. That's where Vince Young left off.

And I don't think I've heard anything since--like, say, a super-determined Young embarking on a new level of training and discipline--that would change that.

So why would putting him in now make things better, when there's no reason to believe he's any better than he was then?

Sounds to me like Fisher's putting off the seemingly-inevitable to try and find a way to avoid what he knows will be folly. Good luck to him.

Unless Fisher can unveil something that will cause them to finish 10-6 nobody really cares. He could suit up and play some safety this weekend and it wouldn't make much of a difference. The Colts turned over their head coach last offseason and haven't missed a beat. Fisher lost his franchise player and his D coordinator and hasn't won a game. It's almost beyond belief.

I don't get the feeling that Fisher is a "Company Man".

Nor is he a "Mama's Boy"

He will play whoever he wants.

He is the longest tenured coach in the NFL for a reason.

If the owner "STRONGLY OBJECTS", the Jeff will have at least 5 teams beating down his door in January.

    And he knows it.

Haha. One is bad and the other is horrible, clearly a different skill-set Mr. Fisher. Nice comment though.

Please put in VY so I can dust of his jersey after a year of not wearing it

Considering Vince Young doesn't play safety or corner it won't fix the team if he plays. This team needs better pass coverage not a quarterback who gets ruffled when the crowd boos him, which it will when the offensive line doesn't protect him and he makes mistakes.

...get the search parties ready to find Vince when he goes crazy again

i'm going to laugh at bud adams when VY's first play of the game is to fumble the ball or throw a pick.

Collins isn't good, but he's better than VY.
