Josh Freeman preparing to start for Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into their bye week with no official word about their starting quarterback. But there are growing indications that rookie Josh Freeman will make his first start when the Bucs return to the field on November 8 against the Packers.

The latest indication, per Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times, is that Freeman warmed up with starting center Jeff Faine today and is expected to work with the first-team offense during practice today and Thursday.

Freeman, whom the Bucs selected out of Kansas State in the first round of this year’s draft, saw his first regular-season playing time in mop-up duty against the Patriots in London on Sunday. Freeman played two series and completed 2-of-4 passes for 16 yards, so he didn’t necessarily do anything to warrant getting the starting job.

On the other hand, the Buccaneers are 0-7 and the current starter, Josh Johnson, hasn’t done anything to warrant keeping the starting job. Which is why it looks like the Bucs are ready to find out what they have in Freeman.

Exactly the same thing the Phins did when they were 0-whatever back in ’07 and how did that work out for John Beck? Complete desperation by the Gm/Coach and ask Cam Cameron how that worked out? One and done. They should have stuck with Byron and let the rookie get some practice and snaps and some type of learning curve.

Radio’s last ditch effort to save his job.
If freeman isn’t the next warren moon radio goes back to assistant coaching.
The Glazers haven’t got a clue!

A half season of exhibition football will do him some good.

According to Raheem, Freeman has been working with the so called “first team offense” since Leftwich was benched. Forty per cent of the snaps last week, he said.

After the season is over the Bucs are going to really wish they waited til next year to take a QB. They are already going to have top 1 or 2 pick probably and there are so many QB’s coming out this year, most of which are way better than Freeman. Only time will tell.

So, the Bucs will go 0-16. Freeman is Junior Morris’s hand picked boy. I guess we can look forward to 18 ints, 3 td’s and the team laying down by week 12. Go 0-16 Junior, and you should be shown the door. Time to bring in a real coach. OH! I forgot, we had one.

It could be good or bad. Good that he has no pressure to win right now, but if he doesn’t fully understand that situation, he might have his confidence killed.

Well it is blatantly obvious that the Bucs aren’t going to win (unless something totally miraculous happens like the other team not show up) with JJ as the QB. He has basically been good for 1 TD a game running the offense and does NOT possess the quality QB skills that a good QB would have to creatively find ways to move the chains and at the least get the team in position for a few field goals each game. He is a back up at best.
Freeman is said to be the future so let’s get him some reps now and see if he grows any by the end of the season to see what might be done to salvage next season by getting a GOOD QB from free agentcy if needed. Of course if Morris is still coach that is likely not to happen since he has proven he doesn’t have any clue as to what an Above adverage (WINNING quality) QB is!

Man, I love these Gruden lovers like Bucco. Clearly know very little about football. This team lacks talent, end of story. We have new coaches, new schemes that the team has yet to completely buy into and until they do, we’re going to struggle. The blame for the state this team is in belongs to the Glaizers (and our college scouts…see: Gaines Adams). Until ownership spends money to get some talent in here, we’re going to continue to be a sub-.500 team.

Let’s see what the kid’s got.
I hope the glazer’s and dominick are really looking at the scouting dept. There’s alot of talent coming in the next draft.
And Glazer boys, for the love of all things holy, get off your wallet and get the ship turned in the right direction.
It’s a shame when you look forward to the bye week because you know you can’t lose.

Huh? Freeman’s been getting 40% of the first offense practice snaps? Great way to deny Josh a fair shot. Better give Freeman a hot line to the UFL for his next stop. And give the Glazers the same number so they have a place to shop.

    1 Buc, I completely AGREE.
THE biggest issue on this team is the scouting department. They haven’t had a decent draft since Wysche/McKay…
