Local blackout in Detroit

For the first time in more than a year, the Detroit Lions are heading into a game they’re expected to win: The Lions, who hadn’t been favored since Week 1 of 2008, are favored in Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams.

But just because the Lions are expected to win, that doesn’t mean the fans in Detroit are excited about seeing them: The game didn’t sell out within 72 hours of kickoff, meaning it will be blacked out on local television.

As of Wednesday, the Lions still had more than 10,000 tickets available, so the blackout is no surprise.

This is the second time the Lions have been blacked out this season; the previous blackout was the only game the Lions have won in the last two seasons, against the Redskins on September 27.

So most Detroit fans missed the Lions’ only win in more than a year, and now they’re ready to miss the only game the Lions have been expected to win in more than a year. But if Detroit fans don’t much care about seeing their team, it’s hard to blame them: Over the last two seasons, the Lions are 1-21. The Rams’ record over the last two years is 2-21.
