Nearly 14 months after losing his job due to injury and a strange emotional episode that was sparked by the home fans booing him, Titans quarterback Vince Young will return to the starting lineup, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.
Young will mark his return to action against the team he last faced as a starter — the Jaguars.
And the game will be played before an increasingly frustrated crowd of Titans fans.
What could go wrong?
Coach Jeff Fisher is expected to announce the decision later today. Recently, owner Bud Adams has made clear his desire that Young be given another chance.
From a team standpoint, the logic makes perfect sense. With six losses and no wins and a 59-0 disaster in the team’s most recent game under Kerry Collins at quarterback, there’s no reason to keep the third overall pick from the 2006 draft on the bench.
In an unrelated note, Dunder Mifflin’s new Nashville branch has received an expedited request for 69,143 sheets of white paper bearing the words “thank you for not booing.”
Gee, if they win a game with him at QB I suppose someone like Kornheiser will want to give him the MVP award. After all he got the Rookie of the Year for no reason over the real Rookie of the Year – Marques Colston.
At 0-6 there’s really no reason not to bring Vince in and see what he can do. Everyone thinks he’s this huge bust but he was the rookie of the year in his first season, led his team to a 10-6 mark and playoff berth in Year 2, then got benched at the start of Year 3.
Titans need to see what they have now and whether or not it’s necessary to draft another QB in the top 10 of next year’s draft.
What happened to this team? 13-3 last year and they probably should’ve beat Pittsburgh in the season opener. I watched that game and was so impressed by the physicality of both teams. I thought to myself, these two will probably be meeting again in the AFC Championship. While the Steelers are looking solid the Titans are 0-6 and still searching for that first win. WTF?
OMG, an Office reference! How clever and topical!
yes, Vince Young will turn their season around. Bench the veteran for a guy who has had far more turnovers than scores.
yes, NOW the titans will win!
in other news, where did bud adams put jeff fisher’s balls?
4-3 Jags.
In his career he’s scraped out over a 70 rating against them what, once in five games?
97 yards career rushing in the same 5 games.
Cakewalk.
The Jags just got their best player back!
I thought the NFL banned signs, sign language, facial expressions and anything that can be interpreted as derogatory by anyone else that might find something offensive?
Dunder Mifflin might want to get the money for the order up front……just saying..
Vince Young’s collapse is even stranger than JaMarcus Russell’s. From Offensive Rookie of the Year to last resort.
Hello, This is Dwight Schrute, I believe I have the contract for those signs, I’ll deliver them as soon as your check clears
Wow, Vince Young. The only player in the NFL with less heart and desire than JaMarcus Russell and Ted Ginn. I credit Jeff Fisher for delaying this as long as he could until the owner forced him. He knows Vince Young can’t play.
How much longer until Fisher gets lumped into the conversation that begins and ends with “Cowher, Holmgren, Shannahan and Gruden?”
At least he can’t be as bad as J. Russell or any QB on the Bucs roster. The Titans are likely to get a win or 2 with either of their QB’s.
Maybe even Booty!!! (LOL) I wish we could get him on the Bucs, then he could be the Bucs Booty!
On his way to the HOF now I suppose.

“In his career he’s scraped out over a 70 rating against them what, once in five games?”
You my man, are very very correct. In 5 games against the Jags, Vince had compiled the following QB Ratings:
70.1
30.2
47.9
64.8
45.6
And the following total stats in those 5 games:
70/132 – 53 %
693 Yards – 138.6 Average
3TD
8INT
32 Rushes for 96 yards and 1TD
3-2 Record
Oh yeah and let’s not forget the fact that good ol’ Vince has 25 career fumbles in his career. Luckily for him he has only lost less than half of them.
I think they should just go ahead and draft a QB with the #1 Overall Pick in next years draft.
Despite the fact that I’m not a Steelers fan, you just don’t stomp the terrible towel. Its bad Karma. Regardless, they walk away with their first win this week. The Titans are a very talented team caught in a bad groove. The Jags at best are a disorganized team, with an offense that lacks an identity. I loved watching VY in the Rose Bowl and would like to watch him play at a higher level in the pros. Especially alongside a unique playmaker like Chris Johnson.
Thanks Babie Hoodie.
Please never mention the Rookie of the Year nonsense. Can anyone tell me he was really better than MJD or Colston that year?
Led his team to the playoffs? Please, the team carried this putrid excuse for a QB.
“Vince Young is not a passing quarterback. He do not stay in the pocket and he runs.”
Vince Young has done nothing to deserve this but I hope he takes advantage of the opportunity. Just for the record though Marques Colston was the clear rookie of the year in 2006 its too bad those awards are nothing more than a popularity contest. People love stats so let’s compare: Colston (236th overall pick, round 7) – (2006) 70 receptions for 1,038 yards, 8 TDs, 2 fumbles one of which was lost. Young (3rd overall pick, round 1) – (2006) 184/357 for 2,199 yards for 12 TDs, 13 INTs, 25 sacks, 83 rushes for 552 yards, 7 Tds, but 12 fumbles 3 of which we lost. Their career stats are obviously not even worth comparison.
Ron, screw your terrible towel. You Steeler fans and the terrible towels. Grow up, seriously!!!!!!What’s disorganized about the offense? Please enlighten?
Sounds like you’re still salty from the 2007 playoff game. Now go ahead an point out that the Steeler won the Super Bowl last year blah, blah, blah. Yes I’m a Jag fan, but i actually like the Steelers as a team. The Jags and Steelers alway play each other tough.
Besides you should be worrying about the Ravens and Bengals instead of AFC South business. By the way, yeah i know I’m right!!!!!
Well, Kerry Collins have job security. That’s something rare this day and time.
Why? Because he’s not what’s wrong with this team. And Vince Young isn’t going to make it better, unless he does something that Jeff Fisher doesn’t want him to do: run. I mean, run like Mike Vick when he was dogfighting. For real.
Why? Because the problem with the Titans is the O-line on offense. You simply cannot drop back and expect you to win any game with a porous O-line. As a matter of fact, there was only one person in recent memory that has ever one games with a bad O-line… Michael Vick. And that’s because he was the fastest back the Falcons had back then.
So Vince Young is really in a “no-win” situation. He can’t win. He can’t get better. He can’t be a better pocket passer than Kerry Collins. Kerry Collins is pretty good. Vince Young is just fodder, right now. This is the beginning of the end.
But if I was Vince Young, you know what I would do? I would look at my first option. If he’s covered, I would look for a checkdown. If it’s not there, I would look for my outlet. It that’s not there, I would run. And all of that would occur in 3 seconds.
I wouldn’t stay there for more than three seconds. I would try my hardest to run like Mike Vick and let the commentators talk about how I don’t have any patience in the pocket. And if I make first downs, everyone can shut up. And if the Titans win, then all bets are off.
Just when the Titans are going into some games that they might win, the owner shoots them down by putting Young in.
As of now I’d say Fisher is gone. It was nice to have you as a coach Jeff. Pick your next team very carefully. And hopefully, you will have a winning QB and a decent boss.
Vince Young is still alive? I thiought he off’d himself. Well, Vinny will never be a winner again. He had fun running around in college (a weak school at that!) but we’ll all witness the second collapse of the vinny! He’s so lame and his attitude is beyond that of a loser! I say, Titans pick up Ryan Leaf – they should more with him!
Vinny – you’re lame!
Say what you will about Vince but his pro record still has more wins than losses. Oh so it was the defense that won the games? But yet Kerry Collins didn’t benefit from that last year? Give me a break.
And stop talking about the towel and “Karma.” Karma doesn’t exist anymore than unicorns or werewolves do.
Vince Young will make plays on his feet.. They should be able to win this game, should be a close one….
@ wangchung
I’ll give you the fact that as a 7th rounder Colston was perhaps the better value than MJD (2nd rounder) but as you said people love stats so gnaw on these for a minute when you say Colston was the “clear” ROY.
MJD rushing (2006) – 166 attempts, 941 yards, 13 TD’s, 1 fumble.
MJD receiving (2006) – 46 receptions, 436 yards, 2 TD’s, 0 fumbles.
MJD kick return (2006) – 31 returns, 860 yards, 1 TD, 0 fumbles.
MJD punt return (2006) – 1 return, 13 yards.
By my count that puts him at 2,250 all-purpose yards and 16TD’s. Not too shabby for a rookie.
Oh yeah, he also had 1 tackle.
if ever there was a quarterback ready for that new professional league and probably star in it its the dude Vince Young.
bud adams has just said ‘jeff fisher, you wont be here next year’
and if im fisher id have to just say
Thanks for the warning and keep my mouth shut and cash every last check bud ‘dumbasaboxofrocks” adams will write.
jeff’s about due for a year or 2 on tv anyway
how many of us can say we survived bud adams AND floyd reese
(remember that caphell they were in because of the McNair balloon due)
not many im guessing
its been a good run Jeff
Its crazy how everyone here seems to forget that VY replaced the QB, (Kerry Collins), in his rookie year to take them to the playoffs!!
With the same O-line and D-line that Kerry Collins had before he lost the starting position the first time!
But he cant play the game, he only wins!
I will take a QB who wins game, and doesnt throw for 400 yards a game, as oppose to one that throws for 400 yards and loses, any day!!!
So I want to hear what everyone says when he starts piling up those wins with the same line that Kerry had!!
You people dont know football!!!
The good thing about having Mr Wonderlic play is that fans will recognize that he really is a bust
and they will not be upset with management or ownership when they dump him next year.
With the Titans not facing the disadvantages placed on playof teams in an uncapped year, next year they will come roaring back.
A stat that hasn’t been mentioned here is VY’s cap number for next year. I don’t think Bud Adams thinks Vince is going to be the guy, but feels now that the season is basically a wash anyway, he can make absolutely sure the guy he paid millions to isn’t the answer before he cuts him and drafts another quarterback. Kerry Collins is 37, even if he was throwing laser-beam touchdown passes and the team was 6-0 they’d need a plan for who the next guy is going to be.
First step….the jags. Next step, the Hall of Fame.
VYoung was right about that….he just forgot to include why..
THE BIGGEST FLOP EVER. National championship in college, drafted 3rd pick of 06 draft, rookie of the year….and we are all still waiting for a pulse to come from the corps of his career. Only…it won’t come. This weekend will be the beginning of the end for the over hyped VYoung era. He is a little Mike Vick Jr. He is ‘a’ story, all the pot and raw talent…what he ‘could’ have been, but unfortunately for the NFL, his fans, and his career he just won’t live up to any of it.
Last year there was all this buzz about him wanting to enduce suicide. We all were mistaken in thinking he was talking about personal. Duh! He was talking about career….and boy has he.
Dear Jeff Fisher,
Thanks for making it easier to bet on the jags this weekend.
Vince Young is so dumb, he sits on the TV and watches the couch.
@ GurpBadesha
He’ll make plays with his feet? What? 96 career rushing yards against the Jags. So less than 20 yards a game… terrifying
@ BroncoMania
You’re defending VY and you have the gall to say other people don’t know football? Are you insane?
The writing is on the wall gang…This will be Fisher’s last year in Tennessee. His ego is way too large for him to be taking orders from the owner and have the world know about it! Fisher is still under contract though and Bud Adams is too cheap to eat the money and fire him…Look for another “Gruden Deal” at the end of the season…One of the other teams will pony-up draftpick(s) for Fisher…Maybe Dallas?
I am glad that Young is back in the lineup. I am concerned about his maturity level though, not as a QB but as a man….. if things do not go well in the field, will he pack and go home in a tantrum?? I wonder if he has the mental resilience that the game requires, I certainly believe that Young can play well if he puts his mind in it, but I am afraid of his psychological inmaturity that can bring him and the whole team down…
AAHAHHAHAHAHAHA a request for paper saying not to boo, because vince is a suicidal joke!!!
ahahahahahahahahahaha…………..
To the man who pointed out Colston should of been rookie of the year you could not be more correct, it is popularity and the fear of the media to put sown a black qb, because of what happened to Limbaugh, because McNabb was legit…
but just look how people continue to stick up for jamarcus russell?? any other qb who was not black would be getting slaughtered by the media…
the same thing with vince young, they will not reveal the truth and the stats as you have, or that his second season, full one as a starter had 9 td’s and 17 interceptions………
@ JagFan
Jones-Drew would have been my second choice because his stats were impressive but there are aspects to Colston’s candidacy which cannot be measured. You mentioned that he was a 7th round pick where Jones-Drew was a 2nd. All that said what I feel truly put Colston over the top was the team and city that he went to, the unexpected success of the Saints that year, which he played a large role in, and how that impacted the hurricane ravaged gulf coast. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the Jaguars went 8-8 that year and did not qualify for the playoffs.
@all the VY bashers
Are you bitter USC fans, or just Monday morning analylists with your heads up your @sses? The Titans drafted Vince knowing his style of play. He’s a mobile quarterback that does much better out of the pocket. Why do idiots allways want to ruin innovative players by making them fit into the accepted system? A ew years ago, the wildcat wasn’t really defended against, and now every team has a plan for that scenerio. Times change.
Vince Young isn’t a horrible option. There are worse ones like Brady Quinn or Jamarcus Russell, both of which started the year out.
VY is a scrambling QB which the Titans need since their offensive line is a mess. He doesn’t need to pick up yards on his feet, but moving out of the pocket is what a Titans QB must do in order to make plays.
If only he spent time reviewing tapes like he should have on the bench all this time he might be able to control the ball and not be forced into many turnovers. It will take a few games, but he should be able to scrape off the rust somewhere around Week 11.
Theres only one QB that I know of thats been of MVP caliber whilst also having a week offensive line and a mediocre defense to give him the ball back, Dan Marino. VY is no Dan, but maybe if he keeps his head on he can come out looking at least a bit like a young Culpepper.
