Aaron Rodgers gets his own street

The mayor of Green Bay will not allow one of his streets to called “Minnesota Avenue” during this important week.

Mayor Jim Schmitt announced Thursday that the street was renamed Aaron Rodgers Drive — until Monday.  Rodgers will autograph the sign after the week, then auction it off for charity.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette has a run-down of other Vikings-Packers related measures.  The city apparently encouraged residents to wear flip-flops to work today to mock Brett Favre’s indecisiveness.  (Good to see important government work being done.)

Since this post is short on, you know, useful information, here’s one football related nugget: Ahman Green believes he’ll be active Sunday for the first time signing re-joining the Packers.  Green could help on third downs and short-yardage situations, which the Packers struggled in even in their blowout win over Cleveland last week.

I’d love it Farve bought it after the Vikes win again. A clean sweep in the house that is Farve’s. Not knocking Rodgers, a good QB the Whiners should have drafted, and a class act through all this Farve drama.

It’s rather easy to see why Packer fans are considered the most red-neck imbeciles of the NFL. Even the city of Green Bay rushes to memorialize Aaron Rodgers…….for what? He has played less than 2yrs and has put up some decent stats but accomplished nothing! The winner in all this is obviously, Aaron Rodgers, as he led the team to a 6-10 record last year and nothing thus far this year but yet Green Bay and Packer fans are prepared to “honor” him and give him the keys to the freakin’ state of WI, not for his accomplishments but merely becuz he is the “anti-Favre”. It must be a sad place to live (WI) when it is necessary to “create” a hero, a HOF’er, a savior etc. to help them to mask their disappointment at Farve no longer being a Packer. Why don’t they focus their attention where it belongs…….on Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy and how they have disassembled a 2007 team that went 13-3 and to the NFC Championship game (with the anti-christ no less). TT and MM gotta be lovin’ this anit-Favre stuff as much as A. Rodgers, it keeps the focus and heat off of them and their shortcomings. Favre gave them 17 years of “winning”, a SB, 3 MVP’s etc. etc. but their “anger” (actually it is their HURT) is directed at the very person who saved their sorry asses from remaining the NFC’s version of the Oakland Raiders. A.Rodgers has to be laughing his ass off at how misguided and misdirected the Packer fans feelings are but then again, should we expect any less from a Packer fan!? I submit that they are the dumbest football fans in the country.

He was handed a franchise, got paid to practice for 3 years, inherited a 13-3 team with the best receivers in the league and got a monster contract for leading a team to a 6-10 record. If that’s adversity I’d like some of that!

  33. Jeepskidew says: Oct 30, 2009 1:12 PM

To the question “Do you think people in Minny would do this?” There is two responses to that… One, the Packers are owned by the city of Green Bay, so why wouldn’t city government support the Packers? Two, real team support means showing pride in your team, and speaking out against those players “Favre” who want to beat you in an upcoming game. Ownership and Support, GOOD FOR YOU GREEN BAY!

I just can’t wait to hear what the excuse is if Green Bay wins this game this week. I was always a fan of Favre but to keep an organization wrapped around your finger waiting on a decision from you, that just seems a bit much. He’s done great things for them this year obviously as they have only one loss (and yes it was a loss to the Steelers, not the refs/steelers just in case people still aren’t over that). And I was a fan of Favre back in the day, but that’s just not right what he did to Minnesota in the off/pre-season. And some of you fans who are now saying how great he is were the same ones a few months ago that were saying how much you didn’t want him in Minnesota. And don’t be so quick to be down on other city/state governments. Don’t forget who your governor once was. A former pro rassler/actor. He was great in Running Man though :)

Pretty bad when you can label a guy your franchise’s best-ever QB after 7 games….points to the laughable nature of Vikings fans and their complete lack of any team history to hang their hat on…nicely done. Of course this is the same state that elects a redneck pro wrestler and a standup comedian to their Governor’s and US Senate seats. Dumbass loser Vikings fans….maybe, if Favre gets you to the playoffs you can avoid a TV blackout…maybe even sell out the stadium…douchebags.

This “leather shoes” thing is the funniest thing I have ever heard. I have lived in Minneapolis for the last 8 years, and can verifiably tell you that this is the most pathetic excuse for a metro in the U.S. They THINK they are this culture center of the Midwest, and have this strange aire about them like they are superior. There is not ONE thing here that isn’t in Milwaukee or Madison, and they can’t even hold Chicago’s socks.
But they do have a legitimate excuse for not selling out playoff games. Hmongs, Somalians and Gays are not generally an NFL demographic.

I’m from Mexico I live in mexico city, our govenment sucks a$$, but this has to be among the most useless city governments in the world when it takes the time to rename a street for a less than a week, after a guy that has no merit whatsoever. I’m a big football fan, but this is just sad, considering that Green Bay has a poverty rate larger than the average of the whole state of WI. I guess people have the kind of government they deserve

  78. Mulva says: Oct 30, 2009 3:15 PM

It’s called supporting your QB. WTF is wrong with you people? What’s done is done, Favre is gone and what the Packers have now is a damn good young QB. What are we supposed to do? Pout over Favre being gone and start hating the Packers or move on and show the guy we’ve got under center that we’re behind him, because we are. If you aren’t behind Rodgers, you were never a fan of the Packers; just another hanger on Favre’s balls. Doesn’t mean I still don’t respect Favre, but as long as he has a purple jersey on, I will not cheer for him.
Second, I grew up just outside of Green Bay along the lakeshore. Even now when I come back, all it is are fisherman from Minnesota on our charter boats and in the bars. The whole bay area/Door County area must not be too much of a dump when it’s constantly overrun by Minnesotans and Illinoisans.

16 year old students at USC know more then you? Did you mean THAN you, or did you mean 16 year old morons? Are you one of them? I think grammar is an important consideration whether it is a football site or an epitaph on a gravestone. In fact, I consider it a direct reflection of the intelligence of the writer. For instance, for giggles, just assume everyone is a college graduate for a moment. And for errors made within one simple post with approximately 100 words (like these,) you deduct one level of education for each wrong word, or misspelling, or the use of poor grammar in general. It is easy to determine the collective intelligence level of the typical Viking fan; as something just short of fifth grade. It explains a lot. And by the way latecomer….Favre is the person responsible for Favre no longer playing in Green Bay, nobody else. But what would it matter anyway? Aaron Rodgers is better than he is.

  80. GobiasINC_1 says: Oct 30, 2009 3:16 PM

Vikings fans on these boards are really proving why their “support” for their team has netted them a grand total of zero Super Bowl victories in the long and embarrassing history of their franchise.

  81. 1230 says: Oct 30, 2009 3:17 PM

What am I missing here? A Minnesotan attacks Wisconsin folks, implying they are hickish rednecks. Hmmm, an interesting theory from a similarly situated Midwesterner. And last I checked, impressing someone by the way you dress probably went out in the 1920′s…but whatever you believe there Bob-o.
Back to football, it continues to pain me that people on here believe they “they” or “us” or “we” had anything to do with what happens between professional football teams. Hint…other than overpaying for game tickets and merchandise, you have NOTHING to do with professional football. You keep the financial wheels churning and nothing more. Take pride in “your” team if you wish, but it’s really misplaced in the grand scheme of things.
So Brett Favre is returning to Green Bay…who cares. This has been a Roger Goodell setup for two years now and only now has it really come to fruition…and along the way all of you suckers bought into the type. Just as the money machine known as the NFL wanted you to. Swallowed you whole….

Where to start with this post? The media is brain washing us? If they’re doing any brainwashing it’s to love Favre and demonize the Packers, not the other way around. Also, by “true fan” do you mean of the Packers? Because if that’s the case, then being a “true fan” would mean opposing Favre and cheering for the Packers despite a crappy front office.
Second, for someone who supposedly goes to USC, you have horrible sentence structure and spelling. Not to mention, if you are indeed attending USC, it’s likely that you nor your parents have much to worry about with this economy.
Lastly, by USC, do you mean Southern Cal or University of Sucking Cock.

The Pack is 4-2, and now is entering the difficult part of it’s schedule. With that O line (or lack thereof) GB is going to be in trouble down the stretch, and 8-8 is very conceivable. Personally, I like to chose my financial advisors based on how much time they spend screwing around on a football blog all day instead of researching my various positions. The use of juvenile insults because people don’t agree with them is a bonus.
I can’t believe how many people are complaining about this. IT IS FOR CHARITY. For those who think that other city governments don’t do this, guess what, they do. For those who think that only small towns have time to do things like this, guess what, you’re wrong.
    Example:
April 23rd was “Talk Like Shakespere” day in Chicago. http://archives.chicagotribune.com/2009/apr/20/entertainment/chi-talk-shakespeare-0420apr20.

And I love the people calling Aaron Rodgers cross eyed. Very classy. He’s also better at sports than you (throwing for all those touchdowns while being cross eyed must be tough but some how he does it!), makes more money than you, and seems like a genuinely nice and happy guy (which leads me to believe he’s doing A LOT better than most of you at life, fancy leather shoes aside of course)
But hey have fun with Favre, we’ll talk after his post-season meltdown, he’ll waffle and cry well into the off season then you’ll be back where you started sans a pro bowl quaterback.
