Cleveland Browns linebacker Kaluka Maiava has been fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness against Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings, the Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting.
Maiava drew a 15-yard penalty when he hit Jennings after Jennings caught an 8-yard pass in the third quarter of the Packers’ victory.
The NFL explained the fine by saying, “Specifically, on a pass play, he unnecessarily struck his opponent.”
Maiava said he’ll appeal, adding, “I’m not a dirty player. I was just trying to go for the ball and play hard. It’s the ref’s job to call it like he sees it.”
Maiava, a rookie out of USC, was making his first career start.
