Kurt Warner: Todd Haley is "frustrated"

As the Arizona Cardinals' offensive coordinator last season, Todd Haley got to the Super Bowl. As the Kansas City Chiefs' head coach this season, things haven't gone quite so well.

Haley is struggling through a 1-6 start to the season and dealing with the enormous distraction that is running back Larry Johnson.

And so it's no surprise that Haley's quarterback in Arizona, Kurt Warner, says that he knows Haley is frustrated.

"We do text all the time and we do talk when we have the chance," Warner said on XTRA 910 in Phoenix, per SportsRadioInterviews.com. "I know Todd is struggling and he is frustrated, you know. With the success we had last year and wanting to go in and knowing his competitive nature . . . he wanted to win now but I also think he understands that this is a process and he is trying to take it all in and trying to learn how to handle the situation from a head coaching perspective, which doesn't happen overnight."

Warner said he hadn't talked to Haley specifically about the situation with Johnson, but he said he thinks Haley needs some time to build a roster with players who are all on the same page with their coaching staff.

"Unfortunately when you have a few guys that go the wrong direction, it sets everything back," Warner said. "So hopefully whatever happens with the Larry Johnson situation that it turns out to be for the betterment of the team one way or another and make them move forward and start making strides to building something there."

Seven games into Haley's tenure, the Chiefs look like a team with a whole lot of building to do.

Did Kurt just flip off LJ?

Haley seems to have some inner anger issues that need to be resolved before he can lead a team as a HC. IMO. I don't care whose coaching tree he is a branch of...

I know how they can start... GET RID OF HALEY!

seriously why didn't they look at Nolan as D.C.? And I don't want to start about not looking at J. McDaniels as HC.... Great hire Pioli the only reason B.B. hasn't treated him like E. Mangini is because of his kid. Other then that Pioli is just like the rest of those tards that leave the nest...

This is the type of posting that makes PFT the Drudgereport of football.

This team has no identity, they for some reason deemed all of king carl and herm edwards picks as trash and gave them no shot. Their QB is a huge fluke. The coah is a complete douche who in time will piss all of his players off with his demotions and temper tantrums he throws on the sidelines. They can only hope for 3 years of good drafts in order to compete in the next 5 years which is almost impossible to do.

Thank you Captain Obvious. He goes from SB to 1-6. Let me guess...he's frustrated?

"Seven games into Haley's tenure, the Chiefs look like a team with a whole lot of building to do."

That quote was an epiphany. I would have never surmised that they had any "building to do" (or should it be "rebuilding").

I'm frustrated often...and I don't even get over 1/2 million a year for my troubles.

Its time to be a grown up, Todd. You aren't Parcells; you aren't the only man walking those sidelines; the oracle of omniscience doesn't shine right through you; when you fart, a little trap door doesn't open to release flowers and butterflies. Live with the job you took, because you seem to be the only person who didn't understand the monumental task ahead of you.

...and everybody was accusing McSixenO of being in over his head-- of pretending to be somebody or something he ain't.

Oh, but wait, this is Pioli's guy-- I forgot. How dare I criticize?

    Sorry.

    Zorn is frustrated too!

Must be the playcalling in KC too!

    Bring in a new playcaller!

Hey Kurt? You know what helps teams win championships? When their QBs are concentrating on their own team's business, instead of another team's business.

Close your pie-hole and worry about your own sh*t. Or tell us how great God is. But do everyone a favour and keep your nose out of someone else's problems.

Todd swung at the first pitch. Coulda had dallas, wa, anything but yhe Chefs. At least he's not a fatass, like. Rex Ryan.

Kurt and Todd are close. Last year, Kurt's wife was joking that she might start worrying about their marriage because of his relationship with Haley.

It does not surprise me that they still communicate. And it sounds like Kurt was asked a direct question, given his pre-existing relationship with the KC coach.

Kurt answered as diplomaticallly as possible. He wasn't getting into anyone else's business.

1 for 6 is not a complete season. How he deals with the entire season and how the players deal with losing will help the team figure out who stays and who goes. It takes 2 years to clean out the players who do not respond and bring in your own type of men. The front office needs a year to grow as well. Time will tell if Haley can manage a team but the organization is going in the right direction. Pioli knows how to manipulate the cap restrictions with the best of them.

Can't believe we have another Brett Favre on our hands. Why can't these prima-donna QBs shut their mouths and quit speaking stuff that will only bring grief/annoyance upon others. Kurt, if you respect Todd Haley then STFU and let the man speak for himself. Google "NY jets injury report favre" and get a clue.

no doubt, untwist yr panties ya freak. it's not like Warner was actively going about hoping to spout off on his opinion of the Chiefs situation...

  16. Leto_II says: October 30, 2009 4:48 PM

    Let's see...

Glenn Dorsey and Derrick Johnson are bust. They traded away Gonzalez and Allen. They have LJ for a so called tailback. No o-line to protect Cassel. No d-line to pressure the QB or stop the run. No secondary playmakers.

Is anyone surprised they're 1-6 and Haley is frustrated? This is the team that lost to Oakland at Arrowhead.

At least the Chefs have company since there are about 10 other teams just as bad.

  17. DarkHorse81 says: October 30, 2009 4:59 PM

Of course Haley is frustrated Pioli forgot to bring Randy Moss and Wes Welker with him, no but on a serious note hey Haley how about trying a different method other than screaming and while your at it try coaching up that O-Line all i see on Sundays is Cassel saying hut then he's on his back can't complete many passes like that LOL, they couldn't block a girls scout team D-line right now

  18. KILLER FIN says: October 30, 2009 5:20 PM

Another that is a better coordinator than a coach!!!

  19. Eustus says: October 30, 2009 5:30 PM

Gotta disagree, Crisper. Kurt Warner has been a starting QB in this league long enough to know better. You do not address another team's business, ever. You do not address another mans business, ever. Who is he to address Larry Johnson's behaviour? Worry about your own business before offering opinions about other peoples business. I get that he wants to defend his buddy but that's not his job. When he retires from playing and works as a broadcaster - fine, shoot your mouth off. But as long as your job is winning football games, you concentrate on that.

He could have answered the question a whole lot more diplomatically by not answering it. Just because you're asked for your opinion doesn't always make it appropriate to offer it.

I hope Haley gets fired from Kansas City he will be welcomed with open arms back here in AZ!

  21. Hap says: October 30, 2009 5:48 PM

No, he's going to Buffalo to reunite with his long lost pal, TO.

  22. Drafty says: October 30, 2009 7:47 PM

I can see both sides of the Eustus/Crisper debate.
But either way, the hopeless situation in KC ranks right up there with the Oakland circus as great news for Broncos fans.
Watching Haley/Cartman flip his lid each week - with all the emotional intelligence and leadership qualities of the night manager at Hardee's - is high theater. Keep it up, KC.

Of course the glaring mistake in your post is that Pioli never had a chance to hire Josh McDaniels, since Denver hired him 2 days before Pioli was hired as the Chiefs GM. Pioli was on record before everything went down in Denver and KC that if he were to ever get a GM job anywhere other than the one he had at NE, he'd want Josh McDaniels as his Head Coach--but he never had the chance, because McDaniels had already been hired.

    Get your facts straight.
