Tatupu to miss season after all

For the second time this week, the Seahawks have lost a Pro Bowl player for the rest of the season.

Linebacker Lofa Tatupu will miss the rest of the 2009 campaign after all. Seahawks coach Jim Mora announced after Seattle’s last game that Tatupu was likely done with a torn pectorals muscle, but further tests revealed only a partial tear and created hope that the middle linebacker could return in a few weeks.

That hope vanished when Tatupu underwent surgery this week; he’ll be placed on injured reserve. There is some thought that Tatupu wasn’t playing as effectively as previous years because he bulked up too much, but it’s still a big loss for Seattle defense. David Hawthorne should take over in the middle.

The news isn’t all bad for the Seattle defense. They should get back cornerback Marcus Trufant from the physically unable to perform list this week, even if his snaps are limited against Dallas.
