Green Bay man arrested for stealing Aaron Rodgers Drive sign

A man trying to steal the brand new street sign to "Aaron Rodgers Drive" in Green Bay has been intercepted.

Early Saturday morning, a Green Bay police officer noticed a car driving with a "strange green glow" coming from the automobile's interior.  He pulled the car over, and inside was the sign in Rodgers' honor we told you about Friday.

This was probably inevitable from the minute the city of Green Bay changed "Minnesota Ave" to "Aaron Rodgers Drive."  It was also inevitable that said criminal wouldn't be smart enough to put a blanket over the sign once it was in the car.  The street name will be put back Saturday, then revert to its usual name on Monday, as planned.

This apparently wasn't a Vikings fan in town for the weekend. The man, who smelled like alcohol but passed sobriety tests, apparently told co-workers he was going to try to steal it.

The driver said he knew it was going to be sold for charity, and that he, um, was going to sell it for charity too.

And if you believe that, you probably also believe this Sunday's game is just "one of 16" for Brett Favre and the man whose name is on the stolen sign.

  8. MrHumble says: October 31, 2009 2:37 PM

"Smelling like alcohol" is a way of life for Cheeseheads, you would be arrested in Wisconsin if you didn't smell of alcohol. If you ever get pulled over in WI, even the cops "smell like alcohol".......not to mention like they just filled their pants with yesterday's brats. It's all part of the psychological makeup of fans who are not only delusional but about as red neck as they come. Any fan that puts Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers on a pedestal for literally tearing a 13-3 team apart while chastising the person who gave them respectability for 17 years obviously isn't the brightest bulb in the pack.

  9. bluestree says: October 31, 2009 2:39 PM

Smelling of booze and stealing Aaron rodgers sign? Word out of green Bay is Scotty Favre showed up in town early.

  10. Bears123 says: October 31, 2009 2:42 PM

Wait a minute, since when do police have the authority to pull someone over for having a green glow coming out of their car? I understand that he committed a crime, but I'm curious to know exactly why that is grounds to be pulled over for. Could someone clarify this?

And if the officer illegally pulled the man over, what would happen? Since it is an illegal search and seizure, he cannot be charged, right?

Ted Thompson has the best job in the NFL, period. When your team is publicly owned.....by delusional, drunk Packer fans, how can you not do as you please, when you please and as often as you please. Just like the movie Field of Dreams, you take the Greatest Packer Player ever and convince a bunch of red neck drunkards that he is a "villian" and sure enough.....they will listen! The Packers should be moved to L.A. simply out of principle, it's not fair to the rest of the league that one team's fans (and owners) are like the "inmates running the asylum" and the King Cashew can do whatever he wants without accountability.

Just further proves that while fans in Green Bay love their team, most of them disagree with Ted Thompson on forcing Favre out of town. Throw in all the other blunders and incompetents that have accompanied the Ted Thompson regime, and that is why most Packer fans want him gone.

  21. MrHumble says: October 31, 2009 3:20 PM

The Raiders, Skins, Bucs, Lions can all blame it on their egotistical owners but in Green Bay, the "owners" (John Q.Public) blame it all on Brett Favre who they let go...........only in Wisconsin can something like this happen.......and then the rest of us are suppose to believe a single word that comes out of their mouths. I hope Favre gives them something to really remember come Sunday and I'm not even a Vikings fan.

  22. jamesz23 says: October 31, 2009 3:26 PM

Mr. Humble great idea the Green Bay Packers - the 2nd oldest and 1 of the most historic team in the NFL pack up and move to LA. The team that won the first 2 super bowls, whose former coaches name is on the Super Bowl trophy & who have the 2nd most former players in Canton. An empty Lambeau Field each season - yeah that would go over real well with football fans everywhere. Meanwhile teams like the Jaguars, Vikings - who are supported by the revenue other teams bring in and have never won anything keep their teams. Bravo fabolous idea! BTW - you must have never woke up that day in March 2008 when Brett Favre sat in front of everyone and cried his eyes out and said he didn't want to play anymore. Or your a conspiracy theorist who thinks his daughter was held for ransom for him to say those things or that wasn't BF at all but an actor. Yeah I'm sure you'd much rather have a 40 year old QB behind the Pack's OLine and with Matt Flynn & Brian Brohm the QB's of the future for the Packers. Meanwhile recently signed Aaron Rodgers QBing the Vikings for the next decade. Your an idiot.

  23. snnyjcbs says: October 31, 2009 3:33 PM

If MrHumble and Fan of Football had their way, Jerry Kramer would lining up next to Allen Barbre, Paul Hornung would still be in the backfield, and we'd be holding seances to get coaching advice from Vince Lombardi.

Oh, hey, and Fan of Football, let's not pretend you speak for all Packer fans. As far as I can tell, most folks are quite content with Aaron Rodgers, thank you very much.

  25. longrodvanhungendong says: October 31, 2009 3:52 PM

Cops just need reasonable suspicion to stop somebody. Plus you have to factor in the totality of circumstances (location, time of day, did this moron shit a brick when he saw the cop). U would think the Minnesota Ave sign would be stolen on a regular basis in Green Bay.

  26. 1mge says: October 31, 2009 3:53 PM

    MrHumble...just like Calistin & Jamesz23 previously stated:

  27. GobiasINC_1 says: October 31, 2009 3:56 PM

Fan of Football sucks again. Keep it up, sir. It's sad that people are holding onto this issue for so long.

The Rodgers move was for the future and not to make one last run. Also, your gray-haired hero would be dead behind this offensive line.

If you want to bash Thompson for not addressing the offensive line, then we can talk. But really you will complain about the Favre issue for the rest of your life. That's sad.

  28. Route36West says: October 31, 2009 3:58 PM

The guys an idiot. If you wanted to steal the sign fine, who cares its funny. But to do it on the one night of the year that the cops are out looking for that type of thing is retarted. IT WAS MISCHEIVE NIGHT. So the cops were out looking for people creating mischieve. He could have atleast waited to tomorrow when there not looking for that type of thing.

  33. MrHumble says: October 31, 2009 4:13 PM

wolfpack.......little more satire that i suspect you won't understand but.....jerry kramer would probably do better than who is currently on the O-line for the Pack and for sure Hornung could do no worse than R. Grant. You're probably too young to remember, but throughout the 70's and 80's all we fans ever heard out of Green Bay was "the Pack is back" and the irony now is, that you delusional "new generation" Packer fans are back at it. Why is it so easy to hang your hat on what TT and MM simply tell you to believe (kinda James Jones like and I'm not talkin' about your beloved wr, lol) and yet so difficult for you to use your own eyes and mind to see not only the deficiencies in your club but also how TT and MM have disassembled what was a 13-3 club that played for the NFC championship. I listened to Leroy Butler on the radio the other day and while he is a die-hard Packer fan, he too was lambasting TT and MM and how they have managed to destroy what was a great foundation of a team. I don't expect you to agree much less understand but perhaps some day....just keep chanting, "the pack is back".........

"Early Saturday morning, a Green Bay police officer noticed a car driving with a "strange green glow" coming from the automobile's interior."

Ahhh, Green Bay's strict anti-Green Glow law claims another victim. The law was passed in 1953 to keep Green Bay free of Kryptonite lest Superman ever be needed to save Lambaugh Field if it ever feel into the evil cluthces of Lex Luthor.

  35. jamesz23 says: October 31, 2009 4:15 PM

Because of all Favre has done for the Packers they should have kept him the starter as long as he wanted - even into his mid-40's. He shouldn't have to attend any offseason activities, minicamps or even training camp if he doesn't want to. He does not have to dress with the rest of the team or talk to or get to know anyone if he doesn't feel the need. It's fine that the Packers have to aim at only winning 10-11 games each season in fear that if they win too many games they may get homefield advantage, because their QB can no longer play effectively in the wind or cold. They also must cross their fingers they don't have to play somewhere like NY or Philly or Chicago in the playoffs. They also must hope any playoff game does not get too close where a big play must be needed because Brett may get flustered and throw to the wrong guy or throw a bomb deep downfield that more closely resembles a punt that the other team can catch.

Young QB's who show a great deal of promise should be traded to other teams for picks or players that get the Packers to the playoffs. Years later long after Favre has retired if these young QB's are having a great deal of success, Packer fans everywhere should not pay attention as they had 1 of the greatest QB's ever who still stops in to see the Packers in rebuilding mode as long as he is paid for the apperance and ESPN is there to cover it.

13-3 season was against a last place schedule, no major injuries for the Packers that season, oh and they played a really bad AFC West division that season too. Big game against Dallas Favre played wonderfully until he left injured, Aaron Rodgers came in ofcourse and played like slop. Big championship game the entire team let Brett down especially Donald Driver on that last pass. The picture that came out the next day with 4 other receivers circled who were wide open on that play was ofcourse doctored by Ted Thompson. The Packer fans like myself who sat in the stands and saw Brett throw to the wrong guy over & over again throughout the game are delusional. Favre's obsession with the 1 yard pass to Koren Robinson through out that game was a mirage. The pass rush in that game was incredible, Brett had no time to pass as he was knocked down time & time again, meanwhile Aaron Rodgers is putting up so, so numbers behind a line and with protection that resembles the early 90's Cowboys.

  38. GobiasINC_1 says: October 31, 2009 5:21 PM

MrHumble, who beside Favre and Corey Williams is missing from this "great foundation." In the NFL building a "great foundation" on then 38-year old legs is quite the risk, especially when the then 24-year-old QB could play and play well. Corey Williams has been horrible in Cleveland.

So I ask you who is missing? The offensive line has gotten worse, and last year we were injury-riddled. And you cannot tell me that we would be better with the 40-year-old Favre now because he would have crumbled having to pass behind this line. Rodgers is the best QB in the league when it comes to throwing on the run, so again I ask you how did this great foundation get destroyed?

Ah, for the record, I neither live in GB or Wisconsin for that matter. But once when I was parking with a girl from the local high school, it was getting hot and heavy when she whispered in my ear, "kiss me where it stinks" so I drove her over to Minnesota Avenue.

  42. wolfpack says: October 31, 2009 6:12 PM

Heh. Spare me the condescending commentary there, MrHumble. I certainly do recall the oblivion of the 70s and 80s. And by your own statements, I can only assume you're the most conflicted Packers fan in history. If Ted Thompson is such a problem for you, you must have been a basket case during the Mike Sherman era. Or more likely not, since despite his otherwise dismal tenure as GM and coach, he kept the Greatest Packer Player Ever (your words, not mine) on the field.

Unless you were spouting this same kind of angst in 2005, I suggest you spare us the smoke screen and acknowledge that the only thing that *really* matters to you is seeing Brett Favre in a Packers uniform. If aging heros in tight pants thrill you so much, I'm sure you were ecstatic when Marvel Comics "unretired" Captain America, too.

  43. Beer Cheese Soup says: October 31, 2009 6:12 PM

Man, this is just horrible. Whoever took that sign should be taken out and shot, seriously. This just gives more ammunition to Viking fans who insist ALL Pack fans are this idiotic.

Once again, it's only a few bad ones that give us all a bad name, but it's getting harder every day to convince people of that fact. I just want to get this game over with so the drama can end.

  44. doublestuffflorios says: October 31, 2009 6:18 PM

Stolen street signs? Sounds like high school stuff to me. In regards to the breaking down of the Packers "dynasty", well I think it is amazing what they have done over the years (and I am no Packers fan). I can remember when the Raiders were a good team. When the Redskins were a force, and when the Rams were practically unbeatable. In their smaller than average market the Packers have been relatively consistent over the years. That is saying something about the 'ownership' of that team.
