Joey Porter wants to hurt Mark Sanchez

If the Jets and Dolphins played each other 16 times a year, we might need to build a whole other site to handle only the verbal volleys lobbed between the teams.

The chirping between the two sides started in the offseason, ran through their first meeting in Miami and has fired up again this week as the two teams prepare to renew acquaintances at the Meadowlands.

On Friday, Mike Florio shared Jets linebacker Bart Scott’s desire to make mincemeat out of Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne in a post with a very similar headline to this one. In the spirit of equal time, we now turn the microphone over to Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter.

“I’m not worried about [Mark Sanchez] eating hot dogs on the sideline. I’m worried about how I can get him on sideline, with an ice pack.”

Porter’s comments weren’t actually made in response to Scott stating a desire to injure Henne, but in response to Jets coach Rex Ryan saying “Boo hoo hoo” when asked Dolphins cornerback Will Allen’s injury. Ryan was told of Porter’s reply and didn’t back off when returning fire.

“I don’t care about that. If he’s got issues with me about one of their guys being out. . . . I don’t feel sorry for them losing Will Allen,” Ryan said. “Obviously I don’t like it for any player to get hurt, but if they’re looking for sympathy because Will Allen is out, well, we’ve got Kris Jenkins out and we’ve got Leon Washington out for the season. [Those two] guys are Pro Bowl players. No disrespect to Will Allen, but I don’t think he’s going to make a Pro Bowl anytime soon. He’s a decent player, but whatever.”

The only things that will be missing from what’s increasingly sounding like a wrestling supercard on Sunday afternoon are the steel cage and Mean Gene Okerlund. Alas, barring an unlikely playoff showdown between the two sides we’ll have to wait quite a while before they have a chance to resume pleasantries.
