Brian Westbrook not expected to play

All week, Eagles coach Andy Reid has held out public hope that running back Brian Westbrook would play this week despite the "severe" concussion he suffered Monday night.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, however, that Westbrook is "not expected" to play, although he cautions that "things change."

Perhaps Reid's vague reports this week were just a form of gamesmanship; maybe Westbrook was trying to convince the team he could suit up.

Either way, it looks like better judgment will be used and Westbrook will take at least a week off after his scary loss of consciousness last week.

Great! Now we can see if they have the guts to put Vick in at RB. We already know they are scared to death to put him in at QB.

Smart move. I'm a Giants fan, so I'm glad he's not playing, but not just because he kills the Giants every time. Getting knocked out is serious business. If he does in fact suit up, someone needs to lose their job

    thank you, captain obvious.

Guy's got a concussion. Knocked out.

Andy Reid... not a lot of love there for the player.

If Reid was coaching the Jets he would toss tidbits to the media about Leon Washington maybe playing this weekend.
Only an idiot would try to hold out hope Westbrook would play this weekend. Reid just looks foolish trying to use gamemanship here.

I don't understand how Reid could use that as gamesmanship. It's indecent.

If Westbrook plays today, that would be terrible. I hope Westbrook himself gets an opinion from a brain injury specialist doctor who is in no way affiliated with the Eagles or the NFL.

All the recent articles re: the Eagles playing Westy and thumbing their nose at the medical community can now cease.

Irritating as hell to have Gregg and CornFlorio posting this b.s. and saying that AR needs to lose his job, or anyone else for that matter, just to have something to put up.

it would be hard to play him this week, after Goodell was in front of congress trying to defend the league policy regarding head injuries

really guys? i was playing football with my friends a little while back and i took a knee to the dome and blanked for a second, got up and kept playing for another like 4 hours. dont remember any of that game, but i was fine the next day. concussions really arent too big of a deal...just ask brandon stokely

point is: westbrook knows how severe (or not) that concussion was, so does andy. if he got up and walked off the field its not very bad. hes not gonna play as a precaution, but its not like one concussion and hes trent green all of a sudden.

Yeah playing street ball with the guys in the neighborhood is just like the NFL.

The speed, size of the players and impact is the same.

And of course Stokley, Westbrook and Reid understand the long term effects of concussions where the medical community and their years of scientific study is unsure.

Maybe one effect of concussions is a willingness to post an idiotic comparison between a pick-up football game and the NFL.
