Jairus Byrd making his mark

Several names have emerged as candidates for offensive rookie of the year — Percy Harvin, Johnny Knox, Mark Sanchez.

For defensive rookie of the year, any debate has been pretty much resolved before the midpoint of the season.

In less than 7.5 games, Bills cornerback Jairus Byrd has seven interceptions.  He has picked up two of them in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Texans.

One interception resulted in a touchdown, via a 29-yard run on an end-around from Terrell Owens.

Byrd was a second-round pick from Oregon.  He has started six of eight games.

Meanwhile, we wish someone would tell CBS analyst Rich Gannon that the word “athletic” does not have four syllables.

Excuse me, sir, but your relentless assault on the rules of grammar must be mentioned whenever you criticize another.
