Stafford starting, Johnson out for Lions

Detroit Lions rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford will return today against the St. Louis Rams. But he won’t have his favorite receiver with him.

Calvin Johnson, who was limited in practice this week with a knee injury, has been listed as inactive. That’s bad news for the Lions in a game they’re actually favored to win — the first game they’ve been favored to win in more than a year.

With Johnson out, Stafford will look for receivers Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt against the Rams.

For the Rams, wide receiver Donnie Avery is active and will play despite being limited in practice this week with a shoulder injury.

The full list of inactives is available at NFL.com.
