Giants-Eagles one-liners

Giants coach Tom Coughlin refused to allow the Eagles to run the clock out at the end of the fourth quarter of a 40-17 loss, a move that backfired when QB Eli Manning got sacked on the ensuing possession.

Manning insists that his injured foot played no role in his 20 of 39, 222 yard, two interception performance in the Giants loss.

Giants S C.C. Brown was caught out of position on a long touchdown catch by Eagles WR DeSean Jackson.

Giants KR Domenik Hixon fumbled away the opening kickoff of the second half and then left the game with a hip injury.

Said Giants coach Tom Coughlin, “It’s fundamentals. It’s tackling. We didn’t tackle
well. We didn’t cover kicks well. We again threw interceptions. That’s
not the kind of football we teach, but there it was again.”

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb broke out of a mini-slump by completing 17 of 23 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns.

Eagles FB Leonard Weaver touched off the rout with a 41-yard touchdown run on the third play of the game.

Eagles defenders admitted that they saw some boastful talk by Giants WR Steve Smith during the week and used it as inspiration for their dominant performance.

T Winston Justice’s performance was singled out for praise by Eagles coach Andy Reid.

Phil Sheridan of the Philadelphia Inquirer thinks that Sunday’s win is reason for cautious optimism about the Eagles’ chances of making the postseason.

What in the world is wrong with the Giants? After 3 weeks I said the Ravens were “the best in football”, then after Week 5 I said the same thing about the Giants……….
Who should I nix next with a 3 game losing streak?

I wonder if this one felt like a scrimmage to Antonio Pierce.

Criticism directed against head coaches for making their underperforming teams play out the end of the game is misguided. Andy Reid called a time out at the end of the Saints’ rout to make the Eagles run another play. Coughlin and Reid, in each case, did the right thing.
The message is that quitting is not acceptable and that the team needs to play four quarters. The fact that the Giants offense allowed Eli to take a sack is symptomatic, not a backfire of the decision.
