As rumors and reports continue to spread regarding the status of (possibly former) Browns G.M. George Kokinis, the Browns have said nothing in response.
One league source made an excellent observation in this regard — if the rumors and reports weren’t true, the Browns would have said so by now.
Loudly.
The consensus from various media outlets is that Kokinis was escorted out of the building on Monday. We posted it at 6:35 p.m. ET, and others followed, including the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Jay Glazer of FOX cites two unnamed sources who believe that Kokinis was fired. Per Glazer, another source within the organization has not heard that Kokinis was fired.
Meanwhile, public relations director Neal Gulkis told us via e-mail sent at 6:37 p.m. ET, “I have not heard anything.”
Gulkis did not say — and has not said — anything to contradict the rumors and reports that Kokinis is out.
They’re just trying to make sure they are all on the same page and telling the same story.
These clowns can’t even get a firing right.
This doesn’t bode well for Mangini- after all, once you remove Kok from the Man the Man is no longer.
well he could be called koklessman.
but wait a minute. 7 games in on a “bad franchise”, the GM is fired.
i think they should have given him another 7 years and change. call it the millen approach.
“once you remove Kok from the Man the Man is no longer. ”
LOL
The wheels on the shortbus go round and round.. round and round…
I know Jim Brown is the most obnoxious man alive, but c’mon Cleveland needs SOME kind of a break..
There may be other firings in the works which would explain the silence. Lets hope so anyway. Then Mangina can be the only NFL HC to get fired twice in both the same calendar year and the same season. That’ll look great on his WalMart job application.
I hope it soon gets quiet like that in Ashburn.
Now its time to exterminate the rat! Mangini is better suited to coach Jr Pee Wee in Pop Warner.
I agree gazelle. I also think Mangini sacrificed him, making him the fall guy. I am not sure how Kokinas can be blamed for anything except being Mangini’s buddy. What did he do? I know of no decision he made the whole time he was in Cleveland.
Did he head out with Erin?
Why do they keep everything a secret?!?!?! I’m sick and tired of having to speculate about obvious things every time ANYTHING happens! I’m sick of this whole organization being such a god damn heartbreaking thing to have to watch crumble.
Is this rocket science? I don’t make my living in football, but isn’t it obvious when things aren’t working? Not to say that a coach or staff can’t make it work elsewhere, or a player in a slump can’t turn it around with a change of scenery, but why is everyone so blind to failure in the NFL? Think Matt Millen in Detroit. Among many others. umm…Mangini maybe….but cut it loose and move on. Why are coaches contracts fully guaranteed?
The Clowns are definitely a mess and cleaning house makes sense, but honestly, Kokinis is the wrong guy to fire. They hired Mangini BEFORE Kokinis, so firing Kokinis is just making him a scapegoat (or “escape goat”, as Emmit would say)…
Everyone should be fired, and then start over with a top guy who knows what he’s doing and let him run the whole show…
Another great MangIdiot moment… as Mangnini’s the defacto GM himself, and hand-picked Kokinis – and presumably had authority over all personnel moves – this doesn’t cast him in the best light.
And that light gets even dimmer when one steps back and appreciate’s MangIdiot demonstrating that great leadership quality of throwing a loyal lieutenant on a grenade to save himself.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Am I the only one sad to see such an abrupt end to ManKok?
Hopefully they’ll reunite in the future to burn another franchise to the ground.
Also, as a 19 year old, I called the Phoenix Suns to confirm if Coach Frank Johnson was fired about 2 hours before it was announced.(apparently he slept with one of the major corporate sponsor’s wife, allegedly. My hero.)
They had no idea and I heard the woman ask like 15 people if the coach was fired and finally said she has no idea and he’s such a nice guy.
Sooo, give it a few hours.
Randy Lerner is friends with Ernie Accorsi…
We all know what this means,
Lebron definitely wont be back.
Wow… nice. Maybe Lerner is actually listening to his fanbase, finally. His next move is to bring in an experienced outsider to act as a consultant during the rest of the regular season to screen potential candidates for GM.
Let’s see is Snyder has the guts to follow Lerner’s lead and can Cerrato. The unbelievable number of suckass teams this season is unbearable. They make for bad television.
Assuming this rumor is true, firing Kokinis is like kicking the cat because the dog crapped on the rug. Kokinis has pretty much the invisible gm while in Cleveland or Penguini’s glorified yes-man. Brian Daboll should be the next one who is sent back to the Penguini exhibit at the North Pole. Maybe Kokinis can give Santa some much needed help with his personnel in the elf department.
see bottom of page, it says “current gm”
